This document provides an introduction to association rule mining and defines key terms like support, confidence and lift. Support is defined as the percentage of transactions that contain both items A and B. Confidence is the percentage of transactions with item A that also contain item B. Lift measures how much more likely it is for item B to occur in transactions with item A compared to all transactions. Examples are given to demonstrate how to calculate support, confidence and lift based on customer transactions.

Support: It is a measure of how frequently the collection of
items occur together as a percentage of all transactions.
Confidence: How often items in Cheese appear in transactions
that contain Milk only.
Lift: How much our confidence has increased that Cheese will
be purchased given that Milk was purchased.
