Research Data Alliance (UK)
The Research Data Alliance (RDA) is an international organization with over 4,300 members from 110+ countries that works to reduce barriers to data sharing. RDA develops infrastructure and activities to accelerate data-driven innovation. It includes data professionals from various disciplines, including academia and sciences. RDA's goal is to enable open sharing of data across technologies and borders to address societal challenges. The UK engages with RDA through supporting working groups to further UK research interests and disseminating RDA recommendations within the UK research community.

In the world of authority control, it is a bit of an alphabet soup of acronyms. ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID), which is a system to uniquely identify scientific and other academic authors; ISNI (International Standard Name Identifier), which identifies the public identities of contributors to media content such as books, television programs, and newspaper articles; and VIAF (Virtual International Authority File) a system that combines multiple name authority files into a single authority service, hosted by OCLC, all have their place when discussing identifiers for authority control.
Identity issues and disambiguating authors, researchers, other content creators, and their institutional affiliations are crucial as we move into a world of linked data. - When choosing a PID, factors to consider include purpose, scope, underlying technology, governance, and trustworthiness to ensure the PID remains long-lasting. It is important that PID systems and their social infrastructure are maintained to avoid failures.
The Case for Stable VIVO URIs
The document discusses the need for stable VIVO URIs to link and disambiguate researchers across institutions and scholarly systems. It notes challenges like multiple names and institutional affiliations over time. The authors propose registering VIVO person URIs with services like OCLC to make them persistent even if local VIVO systems change. Screening report form 2016

NARA has responded by developing the Electronic Records Archives (ERA) vision for a system that can preserve and provide access to any type of electronic record independently of specific hardware or software. However, more progress is still needed in practical experience and addressing dependencies. NARA is partnering with research organizations and leveraging other projects to advance its empirical research on scalable, infrastructure-independent repositories and the long-term preservation of electronic records.

- The RDA Plenary 2 was held in Washington D.C. from September 16-18, with 368 participants from 22 countries and all sectors.
- There were keynote speeches, panels on global partnerships and affiliate organizations, and meetings of RDA working groups and interest groups.
- The RDA community has grown to over 1,300 participants from over 50 countries, with two-thirds from academia. There is increasing momentum and interactions between groups.
- Plans are underway to develop policies, determine deliverables, and build the RDA organizational structure with members and affiliates. The next plenaries will be in Dublin in March 2014 and the Netherlands in September 2014.

At their first October meeting, the Keyser Lions heard a presentation from the Keyser-Mineral County Public Library about upcoming plans and services. Upcoming events included a meeting on October 17th with a speaker from Warm the Children and a November meeting including a tour of the Mineral Daily News Tribune facility. The Keyser Lions Club leadership and committee assignments for 2014 were also listed.
2nd annual wobble clay louis shoot
The annual Wobble Clay Shoot will take place on November 2, 2013 from 10 AM to 4 PM at Cacapon State Park in West Virginia. The event will include cash prizes depending on the number of participants, with payouts of 50%, 30%, 20%, and 10% for the top four finishers if there are 15 shooters or less. The cost to participate is $20 per round, with 25 shots per round and the option to rent shotguns and purchase shells at the park. Proper safety equipment and attire is required.
District 29-1 Conference

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
