An introduction to selected web tools useful for creating a virtual library space. The tools include WordPress, Wakelet, SoundCloud, Linktree, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Padlet, Flipgrid, ReadWorks, Book Creator, and Storyweaver.
The iCentre at Iona Presentation College has, through its integrated information literacy plan created a dynamic program that merges information literacy, study skills and critical and creative thinking into an holistic program that aligns with the new Australian Curriculum. Through the “Inspired Learning at Iona” website this initiative attempts to ensure that every student in the school not only receives ongoing opportunities to master skills and knowledge considered essential for 21st century learners but also develops the cognitive and affective predispositions towards learning, personal development, self efficacy and accountability.

May 9: The importance of student collaboration in oer projectsUna Daly
Students have a valuable role to play in advocating for open education as well as the creation and revision of OER. Join us to hear from faculty, a student, and several administrators on how student collaboration has helped advanced their OER initiatives and contributed to student digital literacy.
College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California, will share how their extended OER team hires students who work with faculty to find and format OER for inclusion in OER courses. Trudy Radtke, a former College of the Canyons student, had this to say about how OER helped her, “I come from a low-income family and could not purchase all of the necessary textbooks for my first two years of college. In an attempt to supplement my learning I would research my class topics online; I used many OER materials to successfully compensate for the textbooks I could not afford.”
English instructor Laurie Coleman and Digital & OER Coordinator Phillip Anaya from Alamo Colleges in Texas will share how their Alamo Open initiative provides students with information on finding courses that use OER and free instructional materials. This reduction in cost helps their students to stay in school and stay more engaged in their classes as they no longer have to do without textbooks or drop classes due to financial reasons.
Librarian Megan Dempsey, Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC), New Jersey will share how they have collaborated with their student government to promote OER. In the fall 2017 semester, the RVCC Student Government Association signed a resolution to raise awareness about the cost of textbooks and encourage faculty to adopt open educational resources.

We discussed explicit teaching strategies & resources for educating our kids to be responsible 'cybercitizens' This ranged from modelled & guided use of the internet with our younger students, information literacy, to learning about issues such as plagiarism, copyright, cyberbullying, web evaluation, our 'digital footprints' in a Web 2.0 world.
Matapu students talk about what it is like to learn on the VLN. They talk about the classes they attend, why they enjoy them, how they use the Moodle site, how technology helps them learn and how their teachers help them learn.
This is the presentation we use when giving students and schools an introduction to online learning. We do this with all schools and students before they start their online classes to ensure they are prepared for learning online. They know how to use the tools, how to interact and they begin to develop some confidence in interacting with others.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
