Asia society conference advisory template
1. Asia Society Conference -- June 27, 2012
Advisory -- “I’m now an Advisor...What am I supposed to do with my
advisees?”
Scenario 1:
You are a veteran teacher and have just been assigned a 9th grade advisory for the
year. You are given a list of students in your advisory. The population consists of
fifteen students;seven general education, four students with IEP’s and four ELL’s
(English language learners). You do not know any of the students; the only
information you have about the students are their scores from their former school as
well as their cumulative school record.
Scenario 2:
You are already an advisor and are returning from the previous year with the same
advisees. The prior year was quite difficult; you did not see an improvement in the
students’ behavior, attendance, academics and/or school community.
Scenario 3:
You are newly hired to your school. You have no idea what advisory is or its
purpose. You have been assigned to work with a co-teacher who is already
assigned an advisory. Your co-teacher is also familiar with the academic,
behavioral, and social record of each advisee.
Activity:
Based on the scenario that your group selected, please choose one of the
following:
1. Outline students’ potential behavioral, academic and social challenges
2. Outline students strengths, weaknesses, interests, gifts, talents and abilities
3. Outline your own strengths, weaknesses, interests, gifts, talents and abilities
