This document summarizes a two-year project in Sierra Leone funded by DFID to provide technical assistance to strengthen the Ministry of Mineral Resources. The project aims to improve the ministry's capacity and efficiency in developing policies, reforming laws and regulations, and strengthening its functions related to artisanal mining. Partnerships have been formed between the ministry, other government organizations, donors, and mining membership organizations. While progress has been made in institutional reforms and stakeholder engagement, further work is still needed to fully implement policies, pass new legislation, develop regulations, and build the ministry's long-term capacity.
