brands to connect with potential customers using the internet and
other forms of digital communication. This includes not only email,
social media, and web-based advertising, but also text and
multimedia messages as a marketing channel.

mobile. It is a form of marketing that helps businesses to reach their

• SEO means Search Engine Optimization and is the process used to
optimize a website's technical configuration, content relevance and
link popularity so its pages can become easily findable, more relevant
and popular towards user search queries, and as a consequence,
search engines rank them better.

WHAT IS SEM?

engine traffic. Like search engine optimization (SEO), search engine
marketing helps companies improve the way content is ranked
by search engines
WHAT IS SMO?
• Social media optimization (SMO) involves using social media platforms to grow a
company or organization's online presence. It can increase awareness of new
products and services and allow organizations to connect with customers.
• SMO is one of the leading digital marketing strategies of the Social Media world.
SMO primarily focuses on attracting web visitors from sources other than search
engines. SMO allows SMM (social media marketing) initiatives to operate better
by improving content, similar to how SEO supports higher search engine
rankings. It may also implement online reputation management (ORM). If
someone submits unfavorable reviews about a firm, an SMO strategy can ensure
that the negative reviews are not the first link to show in a search engine.

BETWEEN
SEO AND SMO?
• SEO is mainly known to focus on improving the rankings of the website,

other hand, focuses only on driving traffic via various social media
platforms. Both of them SMO & SEO, operate in very different spheres,

WHAT IS CRAWLING,
INDEXING AND
RANKING?
• Crawling is the discovery process in which search engines send out a team of robots
(known as crawlers or spiders) to find new and updated content. Content can vary — it
could be a webpage, an image, a video, a PDF, etc. — but regardless of the format,
content is discovered by links.
• Indexing is the process by which search engines organize information before a search to
enable super-fast responses to queries. Searching through individual pages for
keywords and topics would be a very slow process for search engines to identify
relevant information.
• Rankings in SEO refers to a website's position in the search engine results page. There
are various ranking factors that influence whether a website appears higher on the SERP
based on the content relevance to the search term, or the quality of backlinks pointing
to the page.
QUALITY OF BACKLINK
• Backlinks in SEO improve your rankings because they view the quality
and quantity of the links as authoritativeness and votes of confidence
from other websites. Therefore, the more backlinks your website has,
the higher it can rank for search terms.
