SOC391FAS361 Research Methods PROJECT PIECE #2 WRI.docxjensgosney
SOC391/FAS361: Research Methods
PROJECT PIECE #2:
WRITING A LITERATURE REVIEW
OVERVIEW
A literature review is a formal way of gathering relevant and trustworthy information
about a topic of interest. In APA-formatted research papers, the literature review is
often incorporated into the introduction. It serves to introduce your reader to your
topic, convey your research question, justify the need and relevance of your topic, and
present your hypotheses.
A key part of a literature review is synthesizing information (not just presenting the
information)! This concept might be foreign to many students (and difficult to grasp at
first), but it is something that will help you be better able to seek out information from
multiple sources and then present it in an organized way to convey your goal or
purpose (again, something that will likely be needed for a future job or research). Be
sure to review the video and posted resources on the Blackboard course site for a more
detailed discussion of a literature review!
INSTRUCTIONS
1. This project piece will center on the research question that you selected in
Project Piece 1. For your remaining project pieces (and your final project), you
will work on developing, investigating, and writing about this topic.
2. Carefully review the information about finding sources and creating literature
reviews on Blackboard.
3. Conduct a review of the literature on your selected topic. Become familiar with
research available on your topic and variables of interest (outcome and
predictor variables).
a. You will want to focus your search on materials that are appropriate for
an academic paper, including journal articles and books. (Review
distinguishing scholarly articles and other types of information and how to
search for scholarly articles on Blackboard). As discussed in the literature
reviews lecture, searching through materials is often a two-step process.
At the beginning of your research process, you will likely gather more
information and references than you will include in your final paper!
Cutting down these sources and integrating/synthesizing them for your
paper will be a very important step!
4. Once you have reviewed the literature, develop a hypothesis! Do you think both
independent variables will be related to your dependent variable? Or just one?
What direction do you think those relationships will be? Review pages 56-59 of
SOC391/FAS361: Research Methods
your textbook for more information on how to construct a hypothesis. You will
integrate this hypothesis into your literature review, but it can be helpful to think
about what you expect before you write your literature review!
5. Write a 3-4 page literature review in APA 6 format (size 10-12 Times New Roman
font with 1-inch margins) that introduces your topic, describes what research has
been done on your outcome variable, discusses what research ha.
This course introduces students to research methodology. It provides an overview of quantitative and qualitative research methods and their application in higher education. The course aims to help students develop key research skills including conducting literature reviews, using APA style citations, identifying elements of research proposals, and understanding different research designs. Assessment focuses on demonstrating knowledge of research processes and writing skills. A core assignment involves producing a 10-12 page literature review and presentation on a higher education topic of interest. The concept paper format outlined provides guidance for structuring research proposals, including sections on introduction, problem statement, objectives, methodology and literature review.
This document provides a template for an action research manuscript. It outlines the typical sections of an action research paper, including an abstract, introduction, literature review, clarification of the research project, methodology, results and discussion, reflection, and references. For each section, it provides guidance on the purpose and recommended length. The introduction should provide context and introduce the research question through storytelling. The literature review should synthesize relevant research to establish the theoretical framework. The methodology section should detail the interventions, data collection, and analysis used. The results section should tell the story of the research through data. The conclusion should reflect on lessons learned and implications.

Create a log (a list) of the searches used initially in your searches for literature. If you use a library other than your schools, your lists should be specific to each library. The more detailed you keep your search log the more your professors can help you hone your research and your literature review.
2. Create an abbreviated literature review or annotated bibliography. This should support your intervention or investigation, the need for the research or program change, and the gap in the literature or program that your research could possibly explore.
3. Purpose of the Study
______Questions _______Hypotheses _______Objectives
1. List your research questions/hypotheses/objectives.
2. What is the particular research theory and or counseling theory do you intend to use?
3. Research Design
1. If your study is quantitative in nature, describe the characteristics of the population that you will study. If your study is qualitative in nature, describe the phen.

Concusion Section
7 - Conclusion: In this section, the student will identify a summary of their EBP project as well as consider the potential contribution to their specialty track (FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER) practice setting. The required content includes: MUST BE A COMPREHENSIVE CONCLUSION FROM WEEK 2 THROUGH WEEK 7
· Provide a comprehensive summary of key points from this EBP proposal project (PART A)
WEEK 2 – To develop an EBP PICOT/PICo question as well as a research question, numerous sources can trigger the spirit of inquiry, or to put it simply, the "I wonder . . . ?" The sources include, but are not limited to, the following.
· Identification of a concern in a practice area (i.e., "I wonder how I can prevent . . . ")
· Inconsistencies found in professional literature (i.e., Article A says I should do X, but Article B says that the preferred action is Y. I wonder which one is correct for my practice area.")
· Problems occurring with the practice area (i.e., "This has been a problem in the unit as long as I can remember; I wonder how I can improve the . . . ")
· Reviewing nursing theory (i.e., "I read that knowledge helps with self-care; I wonder whether it would help to foster patient compliance with . . . )
Although the source of the EBPPICOT/PICo or research study question can vary based upon your practice area and its related events, the role of nursing theory is where this week begins.
WEEK 3 – Discussions - Elements of Quantitative Research: Design and Sampling
This discussion will explore the quantitative approach sampling and design by analyzing a single study quantitative research article related to your specialty track. WEEK 4 - Developing New Evidence: Qualitative Research Studies Overview of the Qualitative Research Approach
Qualitative research studies phenomena in their natural settings. By using the natural settings, this design interprets phenomena in terms of the meanings that people bring to them. Qualitative research aims to get a better understanding through firsthand experience because subjects share thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Qualitative research involves the collection of a variety of empirical materials. These materials include, but are not limited to, case study, personal experience, life story, interviews, observations, historical perspectives, interactional, and visual texts. All of this information becomes data that describe routine as well as problematic moments with the meanings these moments have in individuals' lives.
Often, the qualitative approach is used as the initial research study in an area of interest because it will help to explore and define the phenomena. By gaining an understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations, it provid ...

Curriculum-Linked AssessmentIn the discussion forums this week wjeniihykdevara
Curriculum-Linked Assessment
In the discussion forums this week we learned about the use of screening assessments as a tool to indicate a potential concern about a child’s learning and development. After administering screening assessments, a typical next step is to evaluate any areas of concern that were indicated on the screener. One way in which this is accomplished is through creating learning activities and curriculum linked assessments. “If every intentional activity that goes on in education is part of the curriculum, then these activities should be assessed to determine if children are making progress in the curriculum” (text, section 7.1) Doing this allows for opportunities to assess and evaluate the child’s performance to see where his/her true areas of need are and to determine what further steps might need to be taken. Your assignment this week will give you the opportunity to put the process we just discussed into action. There are four steps to your assignment.
Step 1 (1.5 points):
Choose one child from the example document, “
Developmental Checklist Birth to Five
.” After choosing a child, write an analysis of the child. Your analysis should include the following:
Which checklist you are using
The age of the child
The information that you have learned from the checklist about the child’s strengths and developmental concerns you would have about this child that includes at least three different developmental areas from the checklist.
Step 2 (3 points):
Create a learning objective from the child. Using this child and the domain of your choice from
The Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
domains, choose a learning standard that relates to an area of need for the child you choose based on their checklist. Create a clear learning objective that aligns with this standard, which you can use to measure the child’s performance on the assessment you will create in Step 3.
For example
, if the screener indicated that the child struggles with identifying shapes, you would choose to focus on a shape skill from the Mathematics Knowledge and Skills Domain. Your objective might be the child will be able to identify shapes correctly at least 80% of the time.
Another example
would be if the screener indicates that the child struggles to cooperate with others, you would choose a cooperation skill from the Social and Emotional Development Domain. Your objective for this might be the child will be cooperating when playing with a partner at least 90% of the time.
If you need assistance with how to create effective learning objectives, please view the Objectives section of the ECE/CD Lesson Planning Handbook that is available with your Constellation materials for the course or review section 7.1 of the course text. In your assignment include the following:
The learning standard you chose from the The Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework ...

This document provides guidance for an assignment in an education course to reflect on how action research can improve student learning. It explains that action research is an iterative process that encourages teachers and leaders to continuously learn and improve. As reflective practitioners, students will engage in deep thought about how to solve problems and drive change. For the assignment, students must explain in one paragraph how continuous improvement through action research can inform progress in a school, community, or organization. They must also describe in two paragraphs how the specific action research study they conducted will generally improve student learning. Students are asked to respond to at least two peers by asking questions to further discussion and considering the perspective of teachers, administrators, or other personnel involved in their study.

Formative Evaluation - Interpretation
In EDU671, you identified the type of data, the frequency of collection, tools and have
also explored topics related to ethical consideration of this information. You are in
the process of collecting data for your action research in the field at this time.
Be reminded that you’re the approved Action Research Informed Consent allows
your implementation of this action research intervention or innovation in a
specialized setting as follows:
• Those currently employed in a classroom setting.
• Those currently employed in a non-classroom or educational setting.
• Those not employed but implementing the intervention or innovation with family
members, yourself, or your own children.
You are also in the final week of your action research intervention. Through this
process, your experience reinforces action research as being cyclical (Buczynski &
Hansen, 2014; Mills, 2014) and for the best outcome we must engage in critical
reflection of the data (Volante & Beckett, 2011).
2. Vital to the process of collecting data is the continual alignment to your research
question(s). Equally important is how you will systematically collect multiple
sources of data and present the finding to arise at comprehensive conclusions at the
termination of your study. The quality of your data analysis is a strong predictor of
the ease with which you can manage the data but how you can develop sound
findings at the end of your study. Consider: How will you triangulate this
information? How will you continue to build upon this information in order to make
sense and correlate your data to your outcomes?
The focus of this assignment is to reflect on the data and to prepare for how to
analyze in order to answer the research question. We want to answer the question of
“So what?” (Mills, 2014, p.132) This is a critical stage of your action research! In this
assignment, you evaluate the main themes emerging from your data thus far and
how they are or are not supporting your research questions. For example, depending
on what you are seeing in the data, you may have assessed that your research
question should have been stated in a slightly different manner in order to more
authentically capture the specific data. Or, perhaps the data tells you that one of your
questions was irrelevant or that an additional question with a slightly different focus
should have been asked.
Construct your assignment to meet the content and written communication
expectations below.
Content Expectations
• Themes (2 points): Describe the themes emerging from the data collection.
• Personal Experiences (2 points): Analyze how the preliminary findings relate to
your personal experiences using specific examples.
• Implications. (3 points): Describe the implications of your data that can be used to
answer your research question(s).
Written Communication Expectations
• Page Requirement (.5 points): Three-to-four pages, not including title, references,
and appendix pages.
• APA Formatting (.5 points): Use APA formatting consistently throughout the
assignment.
• Syntax and Mechanics (.5 points): Display meticulous comprehension and
organization of syntax and mechanics, such as spelling and grammar.
• Source Requirement (.5 points): Use no less than two scholarly sources in
addition to the Buczynski and Hansen (2014) and Mills (2009) textbooks, providing
compelling evidence to support ideas, and if applicable, reference to original project
if enhancement of existing project occurred. All sources on the reference page need
to be used and cited correctly within the body of the assignment.
Next Steps: Review and Submit the Assignment
