Hello Everyone,
There are several key life events that have influenced Sara's relationships. Sarah has experienced loss, and because of it she has become depressed and lonley. She states, "Every since my husband died theres been no one to talk to", (Laureate 2013). This influences her relationships because, she has become withdrawn and angry. After her husband died Sarah, and her daughter began living together. "Sara and her daughter have lived together for the past 10 years since Stephanie returned home after a failed relationship and was unable to live independently", (Plummer Makris & Brocksen, 2014). This influences her relationships because, she feels that Stephanie is taking over, and she has no control over her environment. She has also acquired the habit of hoarding things which influences her relationships because her other daughter Jane refuses to come visit her because of the conditions of the house.Her daughter Stephanie is also having issues over her hoarding. As Sara's social worker, I might apply a theory of successful aging such as Activity Theory to her case by encouraging her to get physically active by going outside to walk, by joining a gym that has programs for the elderly, and by going on short trips with Stephanie. This will also help them bond more. "There is considerable evidence that being physically and mentally active helps to maintain the physiological , psychological, and iintellectual functions of older people", (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman 2016).

After school concern for children is a social issue that is significant in the United States. It is vividly evident that thousands of families are encountered with the issue of insufficient or lack of activities and attention for their children when they come from school. This problem majorly faces families with both parents working; when the kids come home from school, there is no supervision on them from their parents. While the children are at school, they go through several experiences between the time they are in school and the time they will be out of school.
In the case that both parents are working, the kids will lack the attention and support they need from their parents or guardians. The kids come from school after going through different experiences some of which are discouraging and may impact negatively on their academic performance as well as moral behavior. It is important that the kids get attended to by their parents or are involved in co-curricula activities that will help them fix and get over the various challenges they have gone through while ate school.
In real life, there is lack of after school activities for children or there is no supervision from their seniors or parents. Due to this scenario, the children are likely to occupy themselves with activities that they think are good for them but in real sense they are harmful especially in their social life and their relationship with the community. This paper is going to look at the dangers of lack of after school activities for children, the extent of the problem, its consequences and the possible solutions that can be adopted to take control of the problem.
Statement of the problem
There is an alarming danger that comes along with the social life of children that are not involved in constructive activities after school or lack parental care. In some cases the lack of parental attention is called uninvolved parenting. According to Diana Baumrind, uninvolved parenting which is also known as neglectful parenting is a style of parenting characterized by lack of responsiveness to the needs of a child. When kids are in school, they are attended to by their teachers and are involved in play with other kids; but when they get home they lack supervision of their parents and are likely to involve themselves in behaviors that are harmful to their social.
The children especially teenagers will find pleasure in taking alcohol and abusing drugs. They tend to believe that these will make them feel more relaxed and superior. 3 out of 10 teenagers that do not get the deserved attention from their parents especially after school think of taking drugs and related substances. - Bullying is a widespread problem among young children and can take various forms such as physical, verbal, or social bullying. According to studies, 20.4% of children ages 2-5 experience physical bullying and 14.6% experience teasing. (Section 1)
- One study analyzed 25 children's books and found that most common bullying depicted was verbal intimidation and name-calling. Males comprised 60% of bullies and 48% of victims depicted. (Section 2)
- A second study of 4-6 year olds in London schools found aggressors were nominated most often, followed by victims then defenders. Teachers nominated about 10% as both aggressors and victims. (Section 3)

As time goes on, it appears that there are more juveniles committing crimes or being associated with criminal activity in some form or fashion. Some of the evident characteristics of the juveniles involved with criminal activity are low self-esteem, poor decision-making, lack of communication skills, associating with the wrong crowd, and being a member of a dysfunctional family unit. With the increase of juveniles committing crimes there has been an increase in the types of juvenile diversion, intervention and prevention programs and resources available to assist with the rehabilitation of the juveniles. The ultimate goals of the programs are to help the youth with criminal activity issues and help decrease the chances of the juveniles reoffending. One major to delinquent behavior from our youth in today's society is lack of knowledge and motivation to do the right things. Parents are the first and primary source to in teaching our children right from wrong I wouldn't put it all on the parent's because, the parents can teach what's right but it's for the child to take it into perspective and do better. Being a parent always should make sure you teach on education, settings goals and being productive about your actions. Community effort is important as well to help teach the children to be leaders and not followers. When a child is growing up you have to be careful what you let them see and watch because that's when they pick up on habits and as they get older they will think it's okay especially if their family has a repetitive reputation of bad habits. Delinquent behavior is something that can be stopped and tamed but, it's up to us people to want to make a change in today's time. Remove away guns and weapons open up more community places and safe things for this society to do. Offer something intriguing to the students in schools to help them not be so bored when in school so they want become a statistic and drop out and not be successful.

Child Abuse Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. Social services helps these children and let them know that they are not alone and they are there to help them get through this situation that they are facing. Children face different situations every day and individuals who are child care providers or educators comfort children who face issues like child abuse. Children who face child abuse are affected and they have to get counseling or talk the situation out, because if they don’t they will drink or even get in an abusive relationship which is not healthy for them. This problem majorly faces families with both parents working; when the kids come home from school, there is no supervision on them from their parents. While the children are at school, they go through several experiences between the time they are in school and the time they will be out of school.
In the case that both parents are working, the kids will lack the attention and support they need from their parents or guardians. The kids come from school after going through different experiences some of which are discouraging and may impact negatively on their academic performance as well as moral behavior. It is important that the kids get attended to by their parents or are involved in co-curricula activities that will help them fix and get over the various challenges they have gone through while ate school.
In real life, there is lack of after school activities for children or there is no supervision from their seniors or parents. Due to this scenario, the children are likely to occupy themselves with activities that they think are good for them but in real sense they are harmful especially in their social life and their relationship with the community. This paper is going to look at the dangers of lack of after school activities for children, the extent of the problem, its consequences and the possible solutions that can be adopted to take control of the problem.
Statement of the problem
There is an alarming danger that comes along with the social life of children that are not involved in constructive activities after school or lack parental care. In some cases the lack of parental attention is called uninvolved parenting. According to Diana Baumrind, uninvolved parenting which is also known as neglectful parenting is a style of parenting characterized by lack of responsiveness to the needs of a child. When kids are in school, they are attended to by their teachers and are involved in play with other kids; but when they get home they lack supervision of their parents and are likely to involve themselves in behaviors that are harmful to their social.
The children especially teenagers will find pleasure in taking alcohol and abusing drugs. They tend to believe that these will make them feel more relaxed and superior. 3 out of 10 teenagers that do not get the deserved attention from their parents especially after school think of taking drugs and related substances. - Bullying is a widespread problem among young children and can take various forms such as physical, verbal, or social bullying. According to studies, 20.4% of children ages 2-5 experience physical bullying and 14.6% experience teasing. (Section 1)

As time goes on, it appears that there are more juveniles committing crimes or being associated with criminal activity in some form or fashion. Some of the evident characteristics of the juveniles involved with criminal activity are low self-esteem, poor decision-making, lack of communication skills, associating with the wrong crowd, and being a member of a dysfunctional family unit. With the increase of juveniles committing crimes there has been an increase in the types of juvenile diversion, intervention and prevention programs and resources available to assist with the rehabilitation of the juveniles. The ultimate goals of the programs are to help the youth with criminal activity issues and help decrease the chances of the juveniles reoffending. One major to delinquent behavior from our youth in today's society is lack of knowledge and motivation to do the right things. Parents are the first and primary source to in teaching our children right from wrong I wouldn't put it all on the parent's because, the parents can teach what's right but it's for the child to take it into perspective and do better. Being a parent always should make sure you teach on education, settings goals and being productive about your actions. Community effort is important as well to help teach the children to be leaders and not followers. When a child is growing up you have to be careful what you let them see and watch because that's when they pick up on habits and as they get older they will think it's okay especially if their family has a repetitive reputation of bad habits. Delinquent behavior is something that can be stopped and tamed but, it's up to us people to want to make a change in today's time. Remove away guns and weapons open up more community places and safe things for this society to do. Offer something intriguing to the students in schools to help them not be so bored when in school so they want become a statistic and drop out and not be successful.

Social services helps these children and let them know that they are not alone and they are there to help them get through this situation that they are facing. Children face different situations every day and individuals who are child care providers or educators comfort children who face issues like child abuse. Children who face child abuse are affected and they have to get counseling or talk the situation out, because if they don’t they will drink or even get in an abusive relationship which is not healthy for them. Nineteen year old Talia Johnson was the victim of a rape at a fraternity party (Plummer, Makris and Brocksen, 2014). This week’s video depiction highlights Talia’s struggle with navigating her way back into the life she knew prior to the sexual assault (Laureate Education, 2013). The social worker has a glimpse into her daily life, particularly as she struggles with her parent’s understandable discomfort with their daughter remaining on campus (Laureate Education, 2013). Talia views her current situation as stagnant and not easily changeable. During these situations, the professional charged with helping the client achieve the best positive outcomes when pairing their innate resiliency with a Strengths Based Perspective (Zastrow and Kirst- Ashman, 2016). Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman recognize the importance of emphasizing one’s resiliency, particularly when faced with undeniable adversity (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2016).
While this may be proven as an effective approach, convincing a client who is experiencing consistent feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, is certainly not an easy feat. Therefore, the focus of this approach should remain small, manageable tasks seen through to completion (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2016). In Talia’s case, perhaps suggesting she schedules agreed upon times to speak with her mother would alleviate the stress she feels by receiving the numerous phone calls (Laureate Education, 2013). The premise behind this suggestion is that when Talia starts seeing small daily success, she may start “buying in” to the fact that she, too, can come back from the trauma that has placed her where she is. Thus, her acceptance of her own resiliency, while her innate strengths are continually highlighted by the social worker, will only add to her achievement of positive outcomes (Zastrow and Kirst - Ashman, 2016).
By applying this concept of resiliency to Talia’s case, it is clear how this would be an effective approach within my own future social work practice. Every client with whom a social worker comes in contact, has some innate level of resiliency. Finding the opportunities to point out resiliency, even in its simplest form, becomes the responsibility of the professional charged with guiding the client toward the desired outcomes. The source outlines and discusses different participant and their role in bullying. Its focus is on preschool children. The participant such as victims, bully, and defender of the victim and follower roles are discussed in the article to identify their association with social competence and development among children. The source is in line with the subject matter as it also explores whether the social status among children affects their relationship with others and the connection between social development and bullying.
The sources investigate bullying roles using the response of around three hundred and twenty children aged between three to six years. Other sources of information on bullying and social development were peer reports based on observation in classrooms and playground and teachers reports given on bullying. The results showed clear differences among the roles on the effect of bullying and social competence and development. The source is recommended for the study of the above subject matters as it clearly shows how different roles of participants are affected by social interaction and relationship with other children.
I give preference for this source since it involves the investigation of different roles played by different participant involved in bullying crimes. It help understands the different effect expected on the social development of varying participant in bullying. Factors That Cause School Violence
Individual factors like poor academic performance, unstructured free time, and certain personality traits can lead to school violence. Environmental factors in the immediate surroundings like overcrowded schools, neglectful communities, and abusive or chaotic family lives can also influence violent behaviors. The media's influence showing violence and lack of moral messages can negatively impact children as well. Teachers need to be aware of these risk factors and implement strategies like counseling, engaging lessons, and positive reinforcement to prevent and address school violence.

Through these interventions, the social worker aimed to teach the parents alternative discipline techniques, address unrealistic expectations of their children's behavior, and help the family process the situation in a healthy manner. Adolescent Fatherhood has become a common occurrence in today’s society. The challenge of motherhood and teen pregnancy has been looked into in depth. However, most of research programs mainly focus on teenage pregnancy which means that the girl child is given more priority than the father of the child in such situations, researchers and government agencies suggests that fathers are absent. The lack of attention given to adolescent fathers by social workers, health-care practitioners, and Adolescent Fatherhood is not researched adequately which means that the industry should put more effort in providing adequate information about these young fathers. The lack of focus has made the teenage father face many psychological problems without help from the society that has bred them(Mollborn, & Lovegrove, 2010).
Thesis
This paper will address the critical role played by the social workers and community leaders in helping the adolescent fathers deal with the problems they experience at their age. The Psychological issues will be properly addressed as they affect the behavior of that father. Moreover, the relationship between the adolescent father and the child will be put into context.
Adolescent fathers
Adolescent fathers are the young boys who become fathers when they are still in their adolescence. The reason adolescent fathers have been previously neglected is the lack of concern with the role a man plays from infancy to childhood. There are also some social prejudicial and social-structural factors that are particular to adolescent fathers that have led to their neglect. Since adolescent fathers are not married at the time of conception and birth, they end up being excluded from taking part in the birth and early care of the child. Some of the factors that are related to the increased risk of adolescent fatherhood include poor academic achievement, being born from a teenage mother, early initiation into sexual activities, and low-income.
Psychological and social issues faced by adolescent fathers
Adolescent fathers suffer from anxiety and depression due to the burden of having to deal with their new state of fatherhood. They are expected to provide for their children and the mothers of these children yet most of them can barely take care of themselves. The society has branded adolescent fathers as being sexually reckless youth who do not take responsibility for their children and their mothers. Adolescent fathers end up being disowned by their parents and treated as outcasts by the society.
Environmental factors that affect adolescent fathers
There are some environmental factors that affect adolescent fathers. One of these factors is educational and occupational barriers. These barriers limit the male capacity of these adolescent fathers to assume their parental responsibilities. Schools, peers, and the media can impact a child's development. In schools, teachers play a role in encouraging academic success and student involvement. The characteristics of the school itself also can influence student involvement. For example, larger schools increase the sense of anonymity in students, and teachers are often hard-pressed to provide individualized instruction.
Peers aid in socialization, often through the act of play. Even young children begin to prefer to play with other children rather than play by themselves or with adults. Children often model their behaviors based on their peers. Peers can reinforce behaviors (which may be desirable or undesirable by caregivers or teachers), encourage socially appropriate behavior and attitudes, establish age-related values, and help children learn how to interact with others.
Although television and electronic media impact a child's development, keep in mind that they only provide the medium for delivery of the message. The medium itself is neither inherently good nor bad. However, the harmful effects of television content (e.g., violence can increase aggressive behavior in viewers; stereotyped portrayals of ethnic and minority groups can leave viewers with inaccurate beliefs about these groups) are more readily recalled than the beneficial influences of some content (e.g., programs such as

teach basic cognitive and pro-social skills to their young viewers).

In many societies certain groups possess more resources and hold more power than other groups. In some of these societies, racial discrimination and racial tension also exist. While members of the societies may openly acknowledge that unequal distribution of power and racism are present in their society, many fail to examine the complex relationships between privilege and racism. Social workers must understand this complex relationship so they can educate and empower their clients. Empowerment is the cornerstone of social work practice. In the book Black Empowerment, the author,Barbara Solomon, writes, "Empowerment refers to a process whereby persons who belong to a stigmatized social category throughout their lives can be assisted to develop and increase skills in the exercise of interpersonal influence and the performance of valued social roles" (p. 6). Empowerment practice is based on a collaborative relationship between worker and client, initiated to promote the client's power through self-actualization, self-determination, and the fulfillment of personal goals (Gutierrez, Parsons, & Cox, 1998). Further, this process includes increasing your clients' awareness of the structural oppression that exists and its impact on them. It is the role of social workers to empower clients and to bring about awareness of the inequalities that exist in society. This is done two fold—through work with clients on the micro and mezzo levels and on a macro level through work in organizations and communities. Social workers cannot effectively empower clients without first understanding the mechanisms of oppression and how they impact their day-to-day work. This study examined the relations among community violence expo-
sure, inter-partner conflict and informal social support and the behav-
iour problems of pre-schoolers, and explored how mothers’ parenting
skills and children’s social skills may mediate the child outcomes
associated with such exposure. Participants were 185 African-
American mothers and female caregivers of Head Start children who
completed study measures in a structured interview. Path analyses
revealed that greater inter-partner conflict was associated with more
internalizing and externalizing child behaviour problems. Positive
parenting was associated with fewer internalizing and externalizing
behaviours. Higher levels of child social skills were associated with
fewer internalizing and externalizing behaviour problems. Child
social skills fully mediated the relationship between community vio-
lence and externalizing behaviours as well as between informal
support and externalizing behaviours. Social skills partially mediated
the relationships between positive parenting and externalizing behav-
iours. No mediating effect was found on the relationships between
inter-partner conflict and child behaviour problems. Implications of
the findings for intervention and future research are discussed.

In the USA, nearly one in three African-American
children live in poverty (Annie E. Casey Foundation
2008), with many living in urban neighbourhoods
characterized by deteriorating housing, crime, drug
activity and community violence (e.g. Sampson et al.
1997; DeNavas-Walt et al. 2004; Elliott et al. 2006).
Additionally, adult inter-partner conflict has been
found to be more prevalent among families coping
with poverty and its related stressors than among
more affluent families (Browne & Bassuk 1997; Scott
et al. 2002). While data relative to childhood exposure
to violence worldwide are scarce, it is estimated that
4400 people die daily from inter-personal, collective
or self-directed violence (Krug et al. 2002). Previous
research examining the impact of exposure to com-

Each United States’ based individual feels the effects of juvenile crime. Parents and families as well as neighbors and teachers are affected. Similarly, the victims and the crime perpetrators are affected, (Baldry, 2014). The community should be at the forefront in curbing these crimes. It needs to engage the young people in lawful and social activities that keep them busy as well as strive to adopt humanistic views about the society and life in general. This ensures that the young people grow with the right attitudes towards life and their communities at large. Harmonious upbringing of teenagers in the society helps in instilling discipline and respect amongst them. The society ensures that their children are not discriminated and viewed as objects that can be controlled around, but be allowed to participate in society based activities.
Different model programs have helped parents and the vulnerable generation by giving important information. It helps parents understand how o deal with their children better as they grow up. Children also get to understand more about how drugs, sex, weapons and gangs affect their lives negatively. Through these programs, the youth understand how to express themselves before their parents and peers. They also learn the consequences that their actions will have on their lives. Since the media is always filled with violent and sexual images of the human being, parents need to censor what their children watch and listen to. These programs teach parents on how to do this as explained by Marrus, (2014) and Siegel & Welsh, (2014).
The society is doing well in ensuring reduced cases of juvenile crime. They teach their young ones about the dangers of engaging in such acts, hence motivating the youth to abstain from them. Improvements need to be made on existing policies and those that do not work be removed from the programs.

It makes sense to approach a museum the way a seasoned traveler approaches visiting a city for the first time. Find out what is available to see. In the museum, find out what sort of exhibitions are currently housed in the museum and start with the exhibits that interest you. If there is a travelling exhibition, it’s always a good idea to see it while you have the chance. Then, if you have time, you can look at other things in the museum.
Make notes as you go through the museum and accept any handouts or pamphlets that the museum provides free. While you should not quote anything from the printed material when you do your report, the handouts may help to refresh your memory later.
The quality of your experience is not measured by the amount of time you spend in the galleries or the number of works of art that you actually see. The most rewarding experiences can come from finding three (3) pieces of art or exhibits that intrigue you and then considering those works in leisurely contemplation. Nineteen year old Talia Johnson was the victim of a rape at a fraternity party (Plummer, Makris and Brocksen, 2014). This week’s video depiction highlights Talia’s struggle with navigating her way back into the life she knew prior to the sexual assault (Laureate Education, 2013). The social worker has a glimpse into her daily life, particularly as she struggles with her parent’s understandable discomfort with their daughter remaining on campus (Laureate Education, 2013). Talia views her current situation as stagnant and not easily changeable. During these situations, the professional charged with helping the client achieve the best positive outcomes when pairing their innate resiliency with a Strengths Based Perspective (Zastrow and Kirst- Ashman, 2016). Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman recognize the importance of emphasizing one’s resiliency, particularly when faced with undeniable adversity (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2016).
While this may be proven as an effective approach, convincing a client who is experiencing consistent feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, is certainly not an easy feat. Therefore, the focus of this approach should remain small, manageable tasks seen through to completion (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2016). In Talia’s case, perhaps suggesting she schedules agreed upon times to speak with her mother would alleviate the stress she feels by receiving the numerous phone calls (Laureate Education, 2013). The premise behind this suggestion is that when Talia starts seeing small daily success, she may start “buying in” to the fact that she, too, can come back from the trauma that has placed her where she is. Thus, her acceptance of her own resiliency, while her innate strengths are continually highlighted by the social worker, will only add to her achievement of positive outcomes (Zastrow and Kirst - Ashman, 2016).
By applying this concept of resiliency to Talia’s case, it is clear how this would be an effective approach within my own future social work practice. Every client with whom a social worker comes in contact, has some innate level of resiliency. Finding the opportunities to point out resiliency, even in its simplest form, becomes the responsibility of the professional charged with guiding the client toward the desired outcomes. The source outlines and discusses different participant and their role in bullying. Its focus is on preschool children. The participant such as victims, bully, and defender of the victim and follower roles are discussed in the article to identify their association with social competence and development among children. The source is in line with the subject matter as it also explores whether the social status among children affects their relationship with others and the connection between social development and bullying.
The sources investigate bullying roles using the response of around three hundred and twenty children aged between three to six years. Other sources of information on bullying and social development were peer reports based on observation in classrooms and playground and teachers reports given on bullying. The results showed clear differences among the roles on the effect of bullying and social competence and development. Factors That Cause School Violence
Individual factors like poor academic performance, unstructured free time, and certain personality traits can lead to school violence. Environmental factors in the immediate surroundings like overcrowded schools, neglectful communities, and abusive or chaotic family lives can also influence violent behaviors. The media's influence showing violence and lack of moral messages can negatively impact children as well. Teachers need to be aware of these risk factors and implement strategies like counseling, engaging lessons, and positive reinforcement to prevent and address school violence.

However, most of research programs mainly focus on teenage pregnancy which means that the girl child is given more priority than the father of the child in such situations, researchers and government agencies suggests that fathers are absent. The lack of attention given to adolescent fathers by social workers, health-care practitioners, and Adolescent Fatherhood is not researched adequately which means that the industry should put more effort in providing adequate information about these young fathers. The lack of focus has made the teenage father face many psychological problems without help from the society that has bred them(Mollborn, & Lovegrove, 2010).
Thesis
This paper will address the critical role played by the social workers and community leaders in helping the adolescent fathers deal with the problems they experience at their age. The Psychological issues will be properly addressed as they affect the behavior of that father. Moreover, the relationship between the adolescent father and the child will be put into context.
Adolescent fathers
Adolescent fathers are the young boys who become fathers when they are still in their adolescence. The reason adolescent fathers have been previously neglected is the lack of concern with the role a man plays from infancy to childhood. There are also some social prejudicial and social-structural factors that are particular to adolescent fathers that have led to their neglect. Since adolescent fathers are not married at the time of conception and birth, they end up being excluded from taking part in the birth and early care of the child. Some of the factors that are related to the increased risk of adolescent fatherhood include poor academic achievement, being born from a teenage mother, early initiation into sexual activities, and low-income.
Psychological and social issues faced by adolescent fathers
Adolescent fathers suffer from anxiety and depression due to the burden of having to deal with their new state of fatherhood. They are expected to provide for their children and the mothers of these children yet most of them can barely take care of themselves. The society has branded adolescent fathers as being sexually reckless youth who do not take responsibility for their children and their mothers. Adolescent fathers end up being disowned by their parents and treated as outcasts by the society.
Environmental factors that affect adolescent fathers
There are some environmental factors that affect adolescent fathers. One of these factors is educational and occupational barriers. Introduction
The following eight cases are based on the true experiences of social workers in the field, although names and other identifying circumstances have been changed. The narratives in this book, combined with filmed repre
sentations of scenes inspired by the cases, provide you an opportunity to use true-to-life cases as an experiential
learning tool. Whereas some academic programs, professors, or instructors may offer an occasional glimpse into

the Christian church. The study dwells on research articles that had been conducted earlier
focusing on the same topic. The first article identifies the crucial areas where people with

under the victim theology where the theology discusses the theological issues thus blaming
and victimizing the individuals with disabilities. These are the major struggles that are
illustrated in this article. The uniqueness of the articles that it dwells on the use of religion on

Schools, peers, and the media can impact a child's development. In schools, teachers play a role in encouraging academic success and student involvement. The characteristics of the school itself also can influence student involvement. For example, larger schools increase the sense of anonymity in students, and teachers are often hard-pressed to provide individualized instruction.
Peers aid in socialization, often through the act of play. Even young children begin to prefer to play with other children rather than play by themselves or with adults. Children often model their behaviors based on their peers. Peers can reinforce behaviors (which may be desirable or undesirable by caregivers or teachers), encourage socially appropriate behavior and attitudes, establish age-related values, and help children learn how to interact with others.
Although television and electronic media impact a child's development, keep in mind that they only provide the medium for delivery of the message. The medium itself is neither inherently good nor bad. However, the harmful effects of television content (e.g., violence can increase aggressive behavior in viewers; stereotyped portrayals of ethnic and minority groups can leave viewers with inaccurate beliefs about these groups) are more readily recalled than the beneficial influences of some content (e.g., programs such as
Sesame Street
teach basic cognitive and pro-social skills to their young viewers).

In many societies certain groups possess more resources and hold more power than other groups. In some of these societies, racial discrimination and racial tension also exist. While members of the societies may openly acknowledge that unequal distribution of power and racism are present in their society, many fail to examine the complex relationships between privilege and racism. Social workers must understand this complex relationship so they can educate and empower their clients. Empowerment is the cornerstone of social work practice. In the book Black Empowerment, the author,Barbara Solomon, writes, "Empowerment refers to a process whereby persons who belong to a stigmatized social category throughout their lives can be assisted to develop and increase skills in the exercise of interpersonal influence and the performance of valued social roles" (p. 6). Empowerment practice is based on a collaborative relationship between worker and client, initiated to promote the client's power through self-actualization, self-determination, and the fulfillment of personal goals (Gutierrez, Parsons, & Cox, 1998). Further, this process includes increasing your clients' awareness of the structural oppression that exists and its impact on them. It is the role of social workers to empower clients and to bring about awareness of the inequalities that exist in society. This is done two fold—through work with clients on the micro and mezzo levels and on a macro level through work in organizations and communities. Social workers cannot effectively empower clients without first understanding the mechanisms of oppression and how they impact their day-to-day work. This study examined the relations among community violence expo-
sure, inter-partner conflict and informal social support and the behav-
iour problems of pre-schoolers, and explored how mothers’ parenting
skills and children’s social skills may mediate the child outcomes
associated with such exposure. Participants were 185 African-
American mothers and female caregivers of Head Start children who
completed study measures in a structured interview. Path analyses
revealed that greater inter-partner conflict was associated with more
internalizing and externalizing child behaviour problems. Positive
parenting was associated with fewer internalizing and externalizing
behaviours. Higher levels of child social skills were associated with
fewer internalizing and externalizing behaviour problems. Child
social skills fully mediated the relationship between community vio-
lence and externalizing behaviours as well as between informal
support and externalizing behaviours. Social skills partially mediated
the relationships between positive parenting and externalizing behav-
iours. No mediating effect was found on the relationships between
inter-partner conflict and child behaviour problems. Implications of
the findings for intervention and future research are discussed.

I N T R O D U C T I O N
In the USA, nearly one in three African-American
children live in poverty (Annie E. Casey Foundation
2008), with many living in urban neighbourhoods
characterized by deteriorating housing, crime, drug
activity and community violence (e.g. Sampson et al.
1997; DeNavas-Walt et al. 2004; Elliott et al. 2006).
Additionally, adult inter-partner conflict has been
found to be more prevalent among families coping
with poverty and its related stressors than among
more affluent families (Browne & Bassuk 1997; Scott
et al. 2002). While data relative to childhood exposure
to violence worldwide are scarce, it is estimated that
4400 people die daily from inter-personal, collective
or self-directed violence (Krug et al. 2002). Previous
research examining the impact of exposure to com-
munity violence and inter-partner conflict on child

Each United States’ based individual feels the effects of juvenile crime. Parents and families as well as neighbors and teachers are affected. Similarly, the victims and the crime perpetrators are affected, (Baldry, 2014). The community should be at the forefront in curbing these crimes. It needs to engage the young people in lawful and social activities that keep them busy as well as strive to adopt humanistic views about the society and life in general. This ensures that the young people grow with the right attitudes towards life and their communities at large. Harmonious upbringing of teenagers in the society helps in instilling discipline and respect amongst them. The society ensures that their children are not discriminated and viewed as objects that can be controlled around, but be allowed to participate in society based activities.
Different model programs have helped parents and the vulnerable generation by giving important information. It helps parents understand how o deal with their children better as they grow up. Children also get to understand more about how drugs, sex, weapons and gangs affect their lives negatively. Through these programs, the youth understand how to express themselves before their parents and peers. They also learn the consequences that their actions will have on their lives. Since the media is always filled with violent and sexual images of the human being, parents need to censor what their children watch and listen to. These programs teach parents on how to do this as explained by Marrus, (2014) and Siegel & Welsh, (2014).
The society is doing well in ensuring reduced cases of juvenile crime. They teach their young ones about the dangers of engaging in such acts, hence motivating the youth to abstain from them. Improvements need to be made on existing policies and those that do not work be removed from the programs.

Visiting a Museum
It makes sense to approach a museum the way a seasoned traveler approaches visiting a city for the first time. Find out what is available to see. In the museum, find out what sort of exhibitions are currently housed in the museum and start with the exhibits that interest you. If there is a travelling exhibition, it’s always a good idea to see it while you have the chance. Then, if you have time, you can look at other things in the museum.
Make notes as you go through the museum and accept any handouts or pamphlets that the museum provides free. While you should not quote anything from the printed material when you do your report, the handouts may help to refresh your memory later.
The quality of your experience is not measured by the amount of time you spend in the galleries or the number of works of art that you actually see. Various sciences have had significant impact on the advancements of soft robotics. More specifically materials science, biology and physics (continuum mechanics). Nearly every field of engineering plays a role in the technological advancement of soft robotics. Mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering and fluid dynamics are just to name a few areas that without their application of technological advances in-of-themselves we soft robotics would not be where it is today.
The word Robot comes from the Slavic root word “rabota (Работа)” meaning to work. It first appeared in a Czech play in the 1920’s and was further developed into other works of science fiction. Human beings have forever been fascinated by the fine line between Science Fiction and Science Fact. We have used science fiction to catapult our imaginations into a tangible reality. Our desire to reach further and further into space has also sped up the evolution of soft robotics as seen in new space suits under development and the exploration of our nearby planets. The data collection that these robots will provide to further scientific research here on earth will prove to be invaluable in the future. Further employment of soft robotics in existing industries would create the supply and demand effect needed to fund further research and development.
