Ducky
“I like my piece because he’s so
cute to me. I have been frustrated
with my piece because his pieces
keep falling off and being a normal
bowl. I like how he is flat on the
bottom so he doesn’t roll around.
We are pretending his wings are
tucked in because I forgot to make
them.”

Odontaenius Disjunctus-Red Shouldered hawk feather
Class: Scientific Drawing
Teacher: Grace Manno
“Both drawings are of objects or animals
found in North America. "O. disjunctus"
(patent leather beetle) was based off of a
photo, however "Red shouldered hawk
feather" was based off an actual feather
found in my backyard.
ADDITIONAL INFO: The beetle, O.
disjunctus, feeds on both rotting wood
and small insects, and lives in North
America. They have been found in logs
and stumps for this reason. They, unlike
some beetles, cannot fly. While it
remains unclear how the beetle
accumulated so many names, it is merely
an example for why we have latin
scientific names.
Red shouldered hawks also live in North
America, and feed on small rodents and
birds. It is smaller in size than its more
famous cousin, the Red tailed hawk.”

Arcigera Flower Moth
“I loved taking this class. Grace was
an amazing teacher and all the
things she showed and taught us
were very helpful. I wanted to draw
this moth because I thought all the
patterns, colors, and giant ball of
fluff were interesting and fun.”

Two Scientific Illustrations
“You are looking at drawings of a
terrapin shell and a variegated
coffee bug. I chose to draw this
terrapin shell because of all of the
detail on the scutes and the injury
on the bottom right part of the
shell that clearly healed. Terrapins
live in coastal salt marshes and tidal
creeks along the US Atlantic and
Gulf coasts. Variegated coffee bugs
are pests to coffee plants in eastern
Africa. I chose to draw this bug
because of how colorful it is even
though it's so small.”

Seashell front, back and top view
“My inspiration for making this
piece was that I wanted to do
something non living but still
interesting. I settled on this
because of its odd shape and
composure. During this class I
learned that you need to keep the
bad lines you made while drawing
to make sure you dont make that
same line again. I enjoyed how
peaceful and entertaining this class
was.”

North American Moths
“When drawing these moths I had
a lot of fun using my white gel pen
which before this I rarely used. I
joined this class to get out of my
comfort zone and explore new
ideas and I think it worked because
I will definitely be drawing more
animals and plants (especially with
my white gel pen.”

it you can stay at the top.”

rainbow out of art materials. I also
loved going into the darkroom this

iPhone. Overall, I really liked this
