Digital/Media/Arts (DMA) is a two-year curriculum for academies and pathways
focused on digital media. DMA prepares students to enter college and media careers by
integrating academic standards and career-technical learning. This hands-on session
focuses on how the DMA curriculum can be used to strengthen the arts and media
component of AOIT offering a specialty in digital media.

"Creative approaches to communicating research": Gillian Southgate's presentation offered a short introduction of how to use different creative media such as film, comedy, art, animation, comic strip and poetry to communicate key research messages to a wider audience than currently reached through peer reviewed journals.
The latest innovation from Koodos following on from its successful Koodos for Teens course comes Koodos International. A fun and interactive course lead by experienced staff to assist with either permanent or temporary overseas integrating into NZ life and culture.
There are a couple of variations in these slides. I made a couple of changes after Day 1. This was mainly to give more time 'online' for the participants to 'play' with the pupil wikis.

5. I DON’T WANT TO BE AN ARTIST!
WHY BOTHER STUDYING ART?
Studying art teaches
determination and
resilience – qualities useful
to any career.
It teaches us that it is okay
to fail, to not get things
totally right the first time
and to have the courage to
start again.
When you study art you learn to
work both independently and
collaboratively, you also gain
experience in time management –
skillsets valued by employers.
• Art may not be your
favourite subject, but when
studying the arts alongside
other subjects it can
significantly boost your
achievements.
6. SO WHY STUDY CREATIVE
SUBJECTS?
• Learning about creative subjects enriches the experience of
studying while at school as well as preparing you for life
after school.
• It encourages self-expression and creativity and can build
confidence as well as a sense of individual identity.
• Creativity can also help with wellbeing and improving
health and happiness – many students commented that
creative subject lessons acted as an outlet for releasing the
pressures of studying as well as those of everyday life.
• Studying creative subjects also help to develop critical
thinking and the ability to interpret the world around us.
