God provided a miraculous bridge to help a pious woman cross a flooded river and return home safely after a market trip. When heavy rains caused the local bridge to collapse, the woman and her son found themselves separated by the flooded river. They prayed to God for help. Then, a strong wind blew down a palm tree, which fell across the river to serve as an emergency bridge. The son was able to cross on the tree and help his mother carry her goods home safely. The family celebrated God's divine intervention.

"The Earth on Turtle's Back"
From the Onondaga-Northeast Woodlands tribe, Retold by Michael J. Caduto & Joseph Bruchac
Before Earth was here there was only water as far as one could see in all directions, with birds and animals swimming around in it. Up above in the clouds there was Skyland. In Skyland was a great and beautiful tree with four white roots stretching to the four sacred directions. Every kind of fruit and flower grew from its wide spreading branches.
The Chief of Skyland's young wife was expecting a child. One night she dreamt she saw the great tree uprooted. The next morning she told her husband her dream. "This is very sad," he said, "for it is a dream of great power and we must do all we can to make it come true." Then the chief called all the men together and told them they must uproot the tree. But the roots were so deep and strong they couldn't budge it. So the ancient chief himself wrapped his arms around the tree and strained and strained, until with one last great effort he uprooted it. Now there was a great hole where the tree's roots had been. The chief's wife came and leaned over to look down, holding the tip of one of the uprooted tree's branches to steady herself. Far below she thought she saw something glittering like water. Leaning out further, she lost her balance and fell into the hole. Her hand slipped from the tip of the branch, leaving her only a handful of seeds as she fell.
Far, far below in the waters some of the animals looked up. "Someone is falling from the sky," said one.
"We must help her," said another. Then two Swans flew up and caught her between their wings, and brought her gently down to the water where the birds and animals were watching.
She is not like us," said one of the animals. "She doesn't have webbed feet. I don't think she can live in the water."
"What shall we do?" said another of the water animals.
"I know," said one of the birds. "I have heard there is Earth far below the waters. If we dive down and bring up Earth she will have a place to stand. So the birds and animals tried to bring up Earth. First Duck dove far down beneath the surface, but he couldn't reach the bottom and floated back up. Then Beaver tried. He went even deeper, so deep that it was all dark, but he couldn't reach the bottom either. Then Loon tried and was gone a long, long time, but he too failed to bring up Earth. Soon it seemed that all had tried and failed. Then a small voice spoke.
"I will bring up Earth or die trying." They all looked to see who it was. It was little Muskrat. She dove down and swam and swam. She was not as strong and swift as the others, but she was determined. She went so deep that it was all dark, and still she swam deeper. Her lungs felt ready to burst, but she swam deeper still. At last, just as she was becoming unconscious, she grasped at the bottom with her little paw and floated upwards, almost dead. When the other animals saw her break the surface, they thought she had failed. Then .

This compilation of fairy tales is the result of youth exchange that took place in the little paradise that is Curaçao. Thirty two young people from very different countries met for nine days to learn deeper and sensibilise about gender equality. This topic is
trendy in all our societies, but in our generation we still have big gaps between different genders. So it is necessary that youth works for ending this problem. This structural problem is reflected in small details in our daily life. Even though we come
from very different backgrounds we have found similarities in the essence of this situation, the myths and legends that are reflection of our different identyties are full of the stereotipes that feed the inequality. That is why we have been working in a
new perspective of our fairy tales in order to make them more concious and more focused towards an inclussive education.
All our work is shown here and it has been illustrated with the drawings of the children from the FELIS foundation. FELIS is a wonderful space where Gerda Van Petersen has been working very hard to be able to give those children with the difficult childhood some skills and most off all love to grow in this world.
We want to thank organizations that have made posible this learning. Erasmus, Stichting FELIS, InoChange, FIFEDE, KIEC European Club, Gerda Van Petersen, Fokje Scgipper and our leaders and participants. It has been very enrichening and we
are coming back to our countries with a new perspective about equality, learning and sharing.
The book was created in frame of youth exchange "Stand together" with support from Erasmus+ program.

1. “ARTIFICIAL BRIDGE” FROM GOD
God Almighty provided emergency bridge for a village, when the
existing one was destroyed by heavy downpour and issuing flood.
All along, the LORD has been manifesting Himself more in the lives
of many of the villagers, since the white missionaries established a
station there. Of course, God moves wherever His word is being
preached and taught.
As they embraced the gospel, God has been delivering them from
many mishaps and disasters. Epidemic diseases were virtually gone.
The nefarious activities of juju priests, and native doctors, diabolism
in the land, were scaling down. Almighty was giving them a lease of
life.
There was one particular family in that community: a godly family.
The head of the household was made a catechist in the missionary
church. He, together with his wife and children, were worshipping the
true Almighty God. They used to pray regularly together. And the
LORD made a hedge over the household. The wife was very caring
to the family and others. Jehovah wrought the miracle of emergency
bridge through her.
On that faithful market day, she prepared her wares to go and trade
in a neighbouring community. Little did she know it would rain heavily
later in the day. She first went to her garden and gathered
vegetables, and a bunch of plantain. She as well prepared a gallon of
palm oil, among other items, to sell in the market. It was a market day
in the neighbouring village. Before leaving, she instructed her first son
to take of his other brethren, while she was away. He obliged.
Then, the woman set off for the historic journey to the market; a
distance of about twelve kilometers. She trekked the distance as
usual, with her wares positioned on her head. She successfully
crossed the bridge linking the two communities. She arrived in the
market; later sold off her goods, and bought food items like foo foo,
tubers of yams, and garri. Then, she started to trek back home. The
woman was carrying heavy load in the basket.
Soon, it began to rain. It rained cat and dog that day. There was flood
everywhere. Unfortunately, the local wooden bridge collapsed. It
2. couldn’t withstand the devastation of the torrential flood. It was jointly
constructed by inhabitants of the two affected villages. Of course, the
debris of the wooden bridge was carried away by the menacing flood.
Meanwhile, the first son and others were waiting patiently for the
mother to return home with goodies. She didn’t. Her delay in coming
back was unusual; obviously due to the downpour. The young man
became very much worried about her mother’s whereabouts. And it
was getting dark. He resolved to go and search for her. He defied the
rain and ventured out.
After over one hour of trekking and ‘torment’ from the rain, he came
very close to the bridge. And behold it was destroyed and cleared
away by flood! He stood by and began to wonder if her lovely mother
would ever come across. He couldn’t image the scenario, where her
mum would come to the other side, and won’t be able to come to him
due to the uprooted bridge.
Nevertheless, he was having a sense of victory over the issue. He
knew there is a Supreme Being, who is able to do all things. As he
was pondering over the issue in his heart; behold the mother was
coming from the other side, soaked in the rain, carrying load. He was
excited to see his mother, despite the predicament. She came close
to the bank of the river and stood. The two were separated by the
deep, flooded river.
They exchanged greetings and pleasantries. She asked him about
his other brethren and father? He told her they were all well. “They
are all concerned about your safe return home,” he said. She boldly
told the son not to border about her. She strongly believed the great
God they served would make a way for her to come home.
As she was speaking, the rain subsided and great wind began to
blow. It was a strong wind. Then, something happened. The power of
God through the wind, fell down one of the palm trees beside the river
bank. It fell across to the other side, and served as a bridge.
Mother and son were astonished and delighted about what God did.
He went across and carried the mother’s load. Then, he helped her to
pass through the fallen palm tree. The young man carried the load,
3. while the mother followed him home. When they reached home, it
was celebration galore. Visit: http://powertrumpeter.org/blog1/?p=506
