Thomas Campbell was a 19th century Scottish poet known for his sentimental poetry about human affairs. He helped found the University of London and wrote patriotic war songs. Campbell was educated at Glasgow High School and University where he won prizes for classics and verse writing. His poem Glenara and the ballad Lord Ullin's Daughter were inspired by a visit to Mull and tell the story of a father's grief over losing his daughter in a storm as she tries to cross water to be with her lover.
This document appears to be a collection of short excerpts from the blog "The Best of Glossylalia" from 2012. At one time, there was a fisherman's family in a village on the coast of West Sumatra with a son named Malin Kundang. Due to poverty, Malin's father left to find work but never returned. As an adult, Malin decided to travel by merchant ship to become rich and support his mother. He succeeded and married a beautiful woman. After many years, Malin and his wife returned to the village. When his mother recognized and hugged him, Malin was embarrassed and yelled at her. Angry at her son's rejection, Malin's mother cursed him to turn into a rock. Her curse came true, and Malin's body slowly petrified into stone.
Thomas Campbell was a Scottish poet born in 1777 who is remembered for his poems dealing with human affairs. One of his most famous works is the ballad "Lord Ullin's Daughter", which tells the tragic story of two star-crossed lovers. Pursued by the girl's father, they attempt to flee together by boat across Lochgyle. However, a fierce storm causes the boat to capsize, and the young lovers drown while in each other's embrace, all due to the stubborn refusal of the girl's father to accept their love. The poem conveys the message that rash decisions and lack of compassion can lead to disastrous consequences.

There was a cruel king named Dionysius who was disliked by his subjects. One day, one of his friends, Damocles, said he must be happy with all his riches. Dionysius offered to swap places with Damocles so he could experience being king. The next day at a feast, Damocles noticed a sword hanging above his head by a single horsehair, putting his life at risk, just as the king lived in constant danger. Damocles no longer wanted the king's riches or power.
D, the woman, was not a Kabul resident. She'd been running for a week at this point. As Taliban insurgents closed in on the border city she called home, she began her trek. She no longer felt secure there as a vocal advocate for women's rights.
Two boys, Ndemi and Jinjo, grew up as close friends despite their different social statuses. As adults, Ndemi falls in love with a girl named Malama but must complete a difficult task set by her father to win her hand in marriage. With Jinjo's help, Ndemi is able to complete the task and marries Malama. Jinjo later travels to another village where he meets and saves a girl named Kalima from being sacrificed to the River God. Ndemi later rescues Jinjo and others when they are swallowed by a magic rock. The two friends reunite and all return home safely.

The document describes the author's childhood memories of visiting a large log cabin called "The Lodge" near Lake Arrowhead in Northern Michigan. As a child, the author was fascinated by the cabin and imagined pioneers and Native Americans living there long ago. Years later, the author found her dream home - an old log cabin built in 1920 that reminded her of "The Lodge." She was able to decorate it with her Native American collections and pretend she was a pioneer woman, finding peace and contentment in her new home.
