Arthur Brook
Transportation Engineer for the County of Marin
Q&A with Arthur Brook
Q. What are your plans for the future in
Marin?
A. Marin County has a large amount of
vacationers come through for the parks
and beaches, making the summertime
extremely busy. Trying to maintain a
constant flow of moving traffic is difficult,
so I’m planning now to help out when the
tourist season strikes.
Q. Are there any exciting events coming
up?
A. [Having just retired from my 35-year
career] I plan on taking a brief break from
professional work, and eventually own a
consulting business.
Q. What has been your greatest
professional endeavor?
A. The congestion management program I
helped establish and withhold has been
one of the most compatible in the region
since 1991. I analyzed local roads in the
area that had the most accidents within the
past 25 years, and drew enough data and
research for an accident prevention plan.

For 26 years, Arthur Brook has served the County of
Marin as a transportation engineer, moving people and
goods safely throughout the northern San Francisco Bay
Area. As a city agent civil engineer, he planned and
analyzed all of the technical details involved in
transportation, including passenger travel routes, road
and pavement dimensions, modes including public
systems or private vehicles, and population composition.
Mr. Brook reported to the public works director, who
maintained command of the county’s special initiatives
designed to reduce congestion, improve advanced
traveler information systems, and ensure compliance
with city and state driving regulations.
Mr. Brook was key staff of the Green Commute
Program, which supplies regular and extra hire
employees with a $4-per-day stipend for riding public
transit, walking or carpooling to work. He was a
fundamental component of reducing the effects of gas
emissions, and increasing awareness of conservation
practices are at the core of the program. With his eye for
detail and meticulous nature, he monitored employees
while they apply structural and civil principles that
involve material procurement, planning and design, and
the maintenance of highways, bridges, airports, railways
and related structures.
