This document summarizes a study that aimed to illuminate the meaning of offering care to people with Alzheimer's disease in a special care unit (SCU). The study involved interviews with 10 care providers in an SCU. The analysis revealed four main caring aspects that constituted themes of confirmation, familiarity, communion, and agency, which were considered dimensions of promoting a good life for residents. Specifically, the caring aspects involved: 1) viewing residents' dignity and preserving their sense of self, 2) accepting residents' ways of being, 3) sharing everyday life with residents in a sense of nearness, and 4) encouraging residents' sense of belonging.
