Arithmetic Means
Arithmetic means are terms between any two given terms of an
arithmetic sequence.
Example
Find the following.
1. An arithmetic mean between 7 and 13
2. Two arithmetic means between 4 and 28
3. Four arithmetic means between 3 and 23
Exercise
Find the following.
1. An arithmetic mean between 30 and 75
2. Two arithmetic means between 22 and 37
3. Four arithmetic means between 13 and 33
Example 6
A student is doing research project on growing a plant using aquaponics.
Based on the investigation, the plant grows at a constant rate per week.
However the only data recorded were the plant’s initial height at the start of
the experiment and its final height at the end of a four-week observation
period. The values recorded were 3 in and 10.5 in, respectively, Find the
plant’s height on the second and third week of observation period and the
constant weekly growth rate.
