A step-by-step approach, using Aristotle’s view on Greek tragedy as it’s core, that will help designers design solid interactive projects that engage customers in the right way.
What's your story? Designing a holistic customer experienceJoyce Hostyn
An experience always exists and always generates an impression, but seldom by design. Silo'd approaches result in fragmented experiences and dissatisfied customers. No wonder only 8% of customers report their experience with a given company was superior.
How can we craft a cross-silo content strategy designed to deliver a superior, holistic, customer experience across all customer touchpoints and all stages of the customer lifecycle?

In an ever-changing landscape of one digital disruption after another, companies and organisations are looking for new ways to understand their target markets and engage them better. Increasingly they invest in user experience (UX) and customer experience design (CX) capabilities by working with a specialist UX agency or developing their own UX lab. Some UX practitioners are touting leaner and faster ways of developing customer-centric products and services, via methodologies such as guerilla research, rapid prototyping and Agile UX. Others seek innovation and fulfilment by spending more time in research, being more inclusive, and designing for social goods.

Place in Space (AKA "How to Design A Concept Model")Stephen Anderson
“How do you create a concept model?”
It's a simple question without a simple answer. As wranglers of information, we routinely create visual artifacts to make sense of difficult subjects. Think service blueprints. Site maps. Clusters of sticky notes on walls. Venn diagrams. These are all external representations created to organize our understanding—concept models. And in team settings, these models allow us to communicate and collaborate; master these visual thinking skills and you can effectively frame the conversation. For as long as we’ve organized things into stacks (“my pile, your pile”) or into some continuum (letterforms carved into a clay tablet, sorting kids by height), we’ve used the *spatial* arrangement of things to assign meaning. Consciously or not, we're tapping into a powerful visual language to help us and others understand difficult concepts. But, what is this language we're using? And can it be taught?
In this session, speaker and author Stephen P. Anderson will share the fundamental elements behind every visual representation. Much like there’s a grammar behind the written word, there’s a grammar behind the visual display of information; once understood, you can easily create clear and concise visual representations of thought.
Best of all, this same approach extends into other kinds of external representations, such as custom data visualizations or novel interfaces. And, as we move into a connected world, where information is distributed into the physical environments around us, we can prepare now by having a fundamental vocabulary to describe this arrangement of information.
Whether on the page or screen, or in the physical space around us, understanding how to derive (and convey) meaning through the arrangement of information is and will become an essential skill for anyone designing information.
One day we woke up and realized that our days are filled with all kind of stuff unrelated to code or product, that our goals are driven by product owners, and that our code design is dictated by architects trying to tell us how we should solve problems. A strong coding culture gives the power back to the developer to concentrate on one thing: Create awesome stuff!
Imagine a culture where the input of the whole organization turns an individual idea into a user story in just a couple of hours; where everybody's goal is to make the customer awesome, and where you work on stuff you love instead stuff you loathe. A great coding culture concentrates on making developers productive and happy by removing unnecessary overhead, bringing autonomous teams together, helping the individual programmer to innovate, and raising the awareness among the developers to create better code.
I will talk about how to establish and foster a strong engineering-focused culture that scales from a small team to a huge organization with hundreds of developers. I'll give lots of examples from our experience at Atlassian to show that once you're working in a great coding culture, you won't want to work anywhere else.

The Science of Story: How Brands Can Use Storytelling To Get More CustomersDigital Surgeons
Storytelling is not only an entertaining source for information, but a way to engage and humanize our messages that helps them stick. Our brains are wired for stories. Like a drug, we seek them out. Good stories create lasting emotional connections that persuade, educate, entertain, and convert consumers into brand loyalists.
Here’s another good reason to believe in the power of stories: You don't have a goddamn choice. We spend a third of our waking hours crafting stories, and the rest of the time consuming them. Our brains are always searching for stories. You need stories. You live your life around stories. Your life itself is a story. So, now find out how you can use them to better understand how brands and businesses can use storytelling to increase engagement and sales.
In a time when consumers have been confined to their homes and social contact has been limited, influence has been pulling to the forefront of our increasingly virtual reality. But now that we are beginning the slow transition out of lockdown, how should brands be preparing to future-proof their influence for a post-COVID-19 world?

Brands That Do: Building Behavior Brands
by Susan Machtiger and Jaime Prieto
The importance and meaning of brands is in a state of turbulence. We live in a fragmented media world amidst unprecedented consumer control and content overload. It has become apparent that those brands that do not matter to consumers will soon fade into absolute irrelevance. So, what matters to consumers? How brands behave. Consumers are telling us to stop making empty promises and start acting in new and different ways. In other words, we should be building brands that do things that matter to their customers. Most companies need to rethink how they build and care for their brands. This Red Paper shows them how.
Every software team writes code, but some teams produce fewer bugs than others. Every software team creates new features, but some teams develop them faster than others. What do high performance teams do differently, and why are team members more focused, satisfied and relaxed? They truly work together. No 10x rockstar programmer can achieve what a well rounded, enthusiastic team can.
Sven examines how the best software teams set and follow goals, integrate new members fast, ensure diversity, monitor and continually improve team health, embrace transparency, use a playbook to guide them through every phase of development and much more. He shares techniques including: bugfix rotations, OKRs, feature buddies, open demos, focus days and many more that help teams and team members to work more effectively together, and produce awesome results.
the first step you have to take towards better presentation skills is to understand what makes a story a story and how to use that for presenting, communicating or pitching ideas. The updated presentation goes through the fundamentals and illustrates them with examples from original Star Wars trilogy. A quick checklist is provided at the end of the presentation.
Julian Cole, Head of Communications Planning at BBH, gave this presentation at "Ambidexterity 2," the VCU Brandcenter's Executive Education program for account planning on June 23rd at the VCU Brandcenter in Richmond, VA.
The ‘glue’ that binds life and the universe into a coherent matrix - there is far more to Bytes than just bits, communication, storage and perception!
Big Data, Small Data, Information; storage and transmission; immediately conjure a picture of ‘potential high confusion’. But Information Theory is here to help us despite it upsetting the ‘purists’ of other disciplines; for it ‘steals’ the ideas and concepts of fundamental physics to apply them in a new and novel way that some would consider ‘fuzzy and sloppy’.
“What passes as information theory today is not communication at all, but merely transportation. ... Information theory was developed by Claude E. Shannon to find fundamental limits on signal processing operations such as compressing data and on reliably storing and communicating data.”
Non-the-less, as a practical theory, it played a key role in empowering the telecoms, coding and computing revolutions by defining the limits of what is possible, what can and can’t be done. Without out this theory we would be engaged in blind engineering - trial and error, rules of thumb, and guessing!
The prime contention is the use of ‘Entropy’ as a practical measure of order and disorder outside the confines of Thermodynamics. Thankfully, Shannon assumed the edict: just because something is not pure, and perfect, doesn’t mean to say we can’t exploit it!
This tutorial therefore details the thinking and justifies the principles so that students may utilise the many facets in the design and practice of information system engineering. Specifically: digital transmission over copper, fibre and wireless, data storage in all media, image processing and display, signal coding, information encryption, and security.
