We as a part of the Body of Christ are called to bear fruit. Many have missed their season to bear fruit as the fig tree in the bible. It is time to change so that we can see the promises of God manifest in our lives. God is ready are you?
1. Are You Bearing Fruit
Bearing Fruit
In this season we as the Body of Christ is not bearing the necessary fruits we need to move
forward in God. Mark 11:12-14 states and on the morrow, when they were come from
Bethany, he was hungry: verse 13 and seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves,he came, if
haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but
leaves; for the time of figs was not yet, verse 14 and Jesus answered and said unto it, No
man eat fruit of thee hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it.
The Hindrance To Bearing Fruit
We as the Body of Christ hinder ourselves from bearing fruit because of our flesh, our own
desires, and our own will. We tend to follow what we desire because it is comfortable for us. As
we follow what is comfortable to us we end up losing God’s plan along the way because we have
altered his blueprints for our lives.
Why did Jesus go to the fig tree looking for food if it wasn’t time for the fig to bear fruit?
As you examine the scripture this question may have come to mind, why did Jesus go to the fig
tree looking for food if it wasn’t time for the tree to have figs yet expecting to find food? It
wasn’t that it wasn’t the season for the fig tree to have fruit; it was that the tree took longer than
it should to bear fruit. Now with the fig tree the leaves and the fruit grow together but this
particular tree only had leaves, so the fruit took a longer time to grow. Jesus went to the tree
expecting to find fruit to eat because he saw the leaves on the tree but he found no fruit on the
tree, so the tree was not allowed to bear its fruit.
What is the significance today?
This is significant to the body of Christ today, the leaves are our covering which signifies the
church and the fruit is produced by the Word of God that you receive. But the body of Christ is
sitting in church warming the chairs producing no fruit, because the Word of God is not being
taught, nor sought by the body of Christ, or the Word of God is watered down as having no
power. The body of Christ is not looking for the Word they are looking for entertainment which
causes them to have no fruit and to be barren. In return the church is full of people that are not
being fed the word so they cannot produce the fruit which comes from the word of God and wind
up getting frustrated and defeated by the enemy.
2. Did Jesus actually curse the fig tree?
Jesus did not say, I curse this fig tree, but the disciples saw it as a curse. The reason why the
disciples saw it as a curse was, the definition of a curse is a prayer or invocation for harm or
injury to come upon one. Jesus did not allow the tree to bear fruit, so harm did come to the tree.
Later in Mark 11:20 it reads and in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree
dried up from the roots. So as we see here harm did come to the tree. Jesus recognized that the
tree was non-productive so he cursed the fig tree.
It is the same with the body of Christ, God sees that there is no fruit, and we are not producing,
so God allows the growth of the church to cease; till eventually the church is no more. God will
not allow us to damage his plan.
Is the fruit important?
The fruit plays an important part in a Christian’s life. In Luke 13:9 it reads and if it bear fruit
well! And if not; then after that thou shalt cut it down. In John15:2 it reads every branch in
me that beareth not fruit he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth
it, that it may bring forth more fruit. As we see here if the Christian bears no fruit then they
are taken away, and if you do bear fruit then God purges you and removes the unwanted stuff.
But God allows the ones that are non-bearing to be among the ones that are bearing fruit we see
this in Matthew 13:30 it states let both grow together until the harvest; and in the time of
harvest I will say to the reapers, gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in
bundles to burn them but gather the wheat into my barn. So God gives us opportunity to
grow, but if by a certain season we have not produced anything then by a certain season we are
removed. God has called his people to prosper in him and to go forth not to stay still.
Lack of Fruit
The lack of fruit or no fruit at all; you will not be recognized by people as God’s vessels. In
Matthew 7:16 it states ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns
or figs of thistles? The fruit is a sign that God uses to let people know that you belong to him.
3. Fruit of the Spirit
The fruit of the Spirit are found in Galatians5:22-23 it states but the fruit of the spirit is love,
joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, verse23 meekness, temperance
against such there is no law.
In the Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary it defines these words as this:
Love- strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties.
Joy- to experience great pleasure or delight: Rejoice
Peace- a state of tranquility or quiet, freedom from civil disturbance; freedom from disquieting
or oppressive thoughts or emotions.
Long-suffering- long and patient endurance of offense
Gentleness- the quality or state of being gentle; mildness of manners or disposition
Goodness- the quality or state of being good; good means of a favorable character or tendency
Faith- belief and trust in and loyalty to God
Meek-enduring injury with patience and without resentment, mild; deficient in spirit and
courage; submissive; not violent or strong: moderate meekness
Temperance- moderation in action, thought or feeling restraint
So looking at the fruit of the Spirit we can evaluate to see if we bear fruit; and or which fruit we
are lacking and need to bear.
In Psalms 1:3 it states and he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that
bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth
shall prosper. In this scripture there is a time frame which is a season where God allows us to
bear fruit, when the fruit is evident that is when God can elevate you and you can go forward.
Don’t be like the servant that buried his talent in the ground and had it taken from him.
The fruit is a part of the characteristics of God.
4. Did you bear your fruit in your season or did you miss your season?
