This document discusses the history and future of user interfaces. It outlines key developments like Vannever Bush's Memex, Doug Engelbart's "Mother of all Demos" introducing the mouse, and PARC inventing the GUI. The reign of the GUI lasted around a decade. By 2020, the keyboard and mouse may be replaced by new gesture-driven interfaces using full-body patterns informed by dance, martial arts, and sign language. Universities may specialize in experience design and the biomechanics of new gesture interfaces. The future of work may look more like dance as gesture-based UIs are developed.
