This document compares Byzantine and Ottoman architecture over time. Early Byzantine architecture was influenced by the Roman Empire and Islamic styles. Middle and Late Byzantine styles spread to Orthodox countries. Ottoman architecture was initially influenced by Byzantine styles from 1299-1453 AD, with Hagia Sophia as a key influence. The works of architect Sinan defined Middle Ottoman styles, while the Late Ottoman Empire saw its own architectural period. Similarities and differences between the Byzantine and Ottoman styles are also examined.
