This document summarizes the capabilities and development of the Advanced Radiographic Capability (ARC) at the National Ignition Facility. ARC will provide high-quality x-ray images through petawatt laser pulses to study materials under extreme conditions. It was developed by modifying individual NIF beams and using chirped pulse amplification to generate short, high intensity pulses. Overcoming challenges like developing large, high-efficiency diffraction gratings and compact pulse compressors was crucial to the project's success. ARC will allow unprecedented views of fusion experiments through its bright, penetrating x-rays.
