The document discusses issues related to government and civic participation in Philadelphia. It notes that Philadelphia has a large number of colleges and students but low trust in state government. It also has high taxes but discusses organizations like Committee of Seventy that work to promote better government through initiatives like campaign finance reform and voter engagement. The document promotes joining the reform movement to help drive positive change.
The document discusses why citizens cannot afford to be indifferent or uninvolved in politics. It provides three examples: (1) corporate employees are affected when companies relocate due to unfavorable political decisions, (2) expatriates have family back home facing issues like an underfunded healthcare system and corruption, and (3) taxpayers see their tax money wasted through misspending and corruption. The document concludes citizens should find efficient ways to show they care, such as participating in required public consultations, in order to hold the state accountable not just during elections but permanently.
This document discusses the need for electoral reforms in India to reduce the influence of money and muscle power in politics. It notes that money has become the medium of exchange for votes. This undermines democracy and the common man feels his vote does not matter. The document proposes several solutions, including better educating voters about their democratic rights and policies, scrutinizing candidates' promises and tactics, and regulating campaign spending. It emphasizes the need for candidates and politicians to have integrity and serve the people rather than themselves. Media should also help the public make informed choices. Overall the goal is for elections to be determined more by candidates' character than their wealth or influence.

1) The document calls for a return to value-based politics in South Africa, arguing that current politics have moved away from service-oriented values like truth, welfare of the people, and opposition to individual benefit.
2) It states that corruption, dirty politics, and the prioritization of materialism and power over social policies have damaged South African democracy and society.
3) The document concludes by calling for political cooperation over confrontation, and for political parties and leaders to adhere to written and unwritten rules of decency and the national interest over just the pursuit of power.
The document discusses the differences between empowering communities and serving communities. Empowering communities means investing them with the power and ability to solve their own problems in a proactive way, while serving communities makes them reactive and reliant on others to do things they can do themselves. It provides examples of neighborhood-oriented policing introduced in Houston in the 1920s that aimed to empower communities to take responsibility for public safety rather than relying solely on police. The document argues that communities understand local problems better than professionals and are more effective at enforcing standards of behavior.

There’s trouble brewing. The Trump Administration and GOP-controlled Congress have joined old-line lobbyists to wipe out regulations that protect our environment, our workplace safety and our financial system's integrity—purportedly to help business. Responsible business leaders know better. Government regulations keep big firms from foisting their costs onto smaller firms and taxpayers, let the market choose winners fairly, reward healthy innovation and give companies of all sizes a chance to grow. Broadly shared prosperity, the market economy and democracy itself depend on fair regulation.
Join Celinda Lake, President of Lake Research Partners and Bryan McGannon, ASBC’s Policy Director for a March 21st webinar. The discussion highlighted polling data and insights on how regulation matters and what changes in health care and energy mean for America’s small businesses.

After Kenya adopted a new constitution in 2010, there were calls for a change in leadership at all levels of government. However, the document questions whether the youth have the ability and integrity to lead. While the parliament has some young members, they have not introduced innovative ideas and have supported legislation that benefits special interests over the public good. The student leadership at the University of Nairobi has also lost credibility and misuses funds rather than advocating for students. The youth participated in post-election violence in 2008 and will need to demonstrate sobriety and vision if they want to gain the nation's trust to take over leadership. The ability of the youth to competently lead the country with integrity remains uncertain.

The respiratory system supplies blood with oxygen through a process where air is inhaled through the mouth and nose, warmed and moistened, then transported via the windpipe to the lungs. In the lungs, oxygen is exchanged in the alveoli and carbon dioxide is removed from the blood before exhalation. Key components that facilitate respiration include the diaphragm, which helps the lungs inflate, the larynx or voice box, the trachea that transports air to the lungs, and bronchioles which are the smallest branches that distribute air within the lungs.

While alliances can help further one's game, they also cause tension and can backfire if people are untrustworthy. To win, one must talk to others, form alliances, show leadership skills, find immunity idols, respect the game, and avoid being flirty, flamboyant, self-centered, or helpless. Prologue
Consider the lives of these three people:
A single mother is raising two young children. One of them has a serious illness and needs medical treatment. Her job pays enough for her to feed her children and rent an apartment, but she does not have health insurance.
An 18-year old student graduates from high school. She is not sure what she wants to do for a living, but she is pretty sure it will involve a college education.
A young couple is looking for a home. They both recently got jobs in downtown San Diego, but they really want to live away from the big city.
These people all have something in common. Each of them is likely to benefit from decisions made by our state government.
The single mother might be eligible for health insurance programs that are funded largely by the state. Even without health insurance, she could bring her child to a county hospital emergency room.
The young student can attend any community college in the state for only $36/unit, just a tiny fraction of the real cost of her education. She also might be able to attend one of the campuses of the California State University or the University of California, where the tuition is higher but the state is still paying a large share of every student’s education.
The young couple will end up living in one of a variety of communities that have been developed according to state and local guidelines. If the community was well planned it will have schools, parks, a library, and other things people value. To get to work they will either drive on state funded roads or use state funded public transportation systems.
State government has a tremendous effect on our daily lives, whether we realize it or not. I think more people need to understand what our state government does and how we can work to make our state more effective. I hope you find this introduction helpful.

A. California’s State Government—legislative, executive and judicial
When people think of California’s government, they usually think of the three branches of statewide governance: the state legislature, the executive branch, and the state courts. Our state government actually includes many entities, such as counties, cities, school boards, and water districts. We also have regulatory agencies that are appointed rather than elected, such as the State Lands Commission and the California Environmental Protection Agency. - The Ivany Report failed to address the large problem of bureaucracy in Nova Scotia's government, which has grown inefficient and resistant to change over time under bureaucrats who prioritize maintaining the status quo.
- Reducing the size of the bureaucracy through attrition and a hiring freeze could eliminate Nova Scotia's deficit within a decade while allowing personal income taxes to be cut, putting more money back in citizens' hands to stimulate the economy.
- Municipal government, with its low cost and direct accountability to citizens, provides a model of efficient governance that contrasts with the bureaucracy and high costs of other levels of government.

All of these bodies ultimately get their po.
This document discusses the influence of lobbying in America. It begins with defining lobbying and exploring its history and current forms. Statistics are presented showing large sums of money spent on special interest lobbying and the growth in the number of lobbyists compared to members of Congress. The document argues that lobbying has negatively impacted policymaking by allowing money rather than the interests of citizens to control Washington. It presents the thesis that special interest lobbying is unethical as it erodes the political system by encouraging legislators to vote based on financial support rather than the public interest. In conclusion, the document states that lobbying must be outlawed to restore the founding vision of government.
The document discusses the importance of the right to vote in a democratic society. It notes that citizens often take this right for granted or do not exercise it, despite how hard others fought to achieve it. While some parts of the world still experience violence and oppression, citizens in the U.S. have the right to vote for their representatives, which is fundamental to a democratic system. However, the system does not always fully encourage or allow citizens to vote freely. The right to vote is protected by amendments to the U.S. Constitution that prohibit denying citizens the right to vote based on race, sex, failure to pay a poll tax, and age for those over 18.
They all say that they are playing with the fire for freedom, and the right to live. That is right, it is the RIGHT to have RIGHT, and it is worth dying for to have the RIGHT. A RIGHT to speak; a right to have expressed; above all a right to select our representatives – the voting right is the right of an American Citizen that many are jealous of, at least that is what we are told. This is fundamentally critical for a civilized nation of a democratic class to have voting right. As President Abraham Lincoln best described democracy as the "government of the people, by the people, and for the people." For that government to be "by the people," however, requires that the people decide who shall be their leaders including Mayors, congressmen, senators, governors, and the president.

Ten Slides That Will Change How You View Money In PoliticsShiftSpark
This document presents a solution called ShiftSpark that allows small donors to collectively pledge donations to politicians based on their positions on issues. This gives small donors more influence, similar to large donors. ShiftSpark displays how much money different sides of an issue have pledged to try to influence politicians' positions. Pledges are only collected if the politician supports that side. This allows small donors to have their voices heard through the power of many unified donations. The goal is to shift politics away from large donors and towards issues that matter to regular citizens.
This document contains the thoughts and reflections of a sociology student named Jerica Isom on various topics related to Texas government and politics. It discusses how history classes have changed her view that her individual vote does not matter. It also outlines some proposed changes to voter registration processes and highlights things she learned in class, such as about different types of Texas cities and the state's role in federal decisions and executions. The document advocates for solutions to immigration issues and encourages citizen involvement in voting.

1. While the current demographic in congress qualifies as the most diverse House of Representatives in history (Due to a number of women winning the elections held in 2018), to say that congress should be more diverse is a gross understatement. Just as our country represents diversity, congress should be much better represented, and our government should make it their priority. When diversity is at the table, contributing to the decisions it brings new perspective, ideas, and in most cases the right solutions. The corporate world has caught on to this and we are now seeing more female CEO’s and other high-level executives than ever. I’m not saying that we do not have white male representatives in office presently (or in the past) that have been advocates and prioritized issues that are most important to communities filled with individuals who do not look like them, come from the same background, or religious beliefs, but having someone who does share in one or multiple areas would have first-hand knowledge and may have been directly affected by the very thing they are fighting for (A woman’s right to choose is a good example).
2. I am definitely in favor of term limits in congress, because it may actually encourage and push our congress men and women to accomplish more because they know that they are on borrowed time. Nancy Pelosi for example, is the first female speaker of the house of representatives and has been in congress for three decades which is quite the accomplishment for a female politician. However, the question would be has she accomplished enough in her tenure given all the years she has held office?
2nd peer post:
1. I have a neutral stance on whether or not there should be more diversity in Congress. Mainly due to my perspective that the color of your skin, sexual orientation, or/and sex does not ALWAYS limit someone's exposure to difficulties or adversity to corresponds with a political issue. For example, funding social welfare programs such as Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs, or welfare for citizens who are affected b poverty. Statistically, minorities tend to face this problem more than non-minorities; however, this does not mean that a caucasian man in office could not have had that same background. On the other hand, I can see how some issues can be handled or seen better if someone who had first-hand experience of it dealt with it. An issue that a caucasian man in office may not have experienced first hand. For instance, abortion laws, LGBTQ rights, women's rights and etc. These may be issues that need the persepctive of a more diverse group of people who have different insights in order to properly find the best situation to handle issues such as these.
2. No, I don't think that there should be term limits on how many years a member in Congress can serve because I don't see how not having it does any harm. A position in Congress is not like a position to be President— which nee ...

Subject: Tomball City Election
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN TOMBALL AFFECTS US ALL!
OPPORTUNITY HAS ARRIVED AT LAST!
Dear Friends and Patriots,
Do you remember why you joined the Tea Party?
Do you remember attending a meeting where something inside you was stirred to
action and you agreed to join the ranks of Americans who want accountability from
our elected officials?
Do you remember how important it is for us to get into office good people whose
principles and values are the same as yours?
HERE'S
THE
DEAL
With an overspending Mayor and City Council, Tomball property owners may
be looking at as much as an 84% increase in property taxes.
The 50 million dollar proposed bond election to redo downtown caters to only a few
Friends of the City Officials at the expense of all Tomball Citizens!
Higher taxes are the only way to fund a bond election of this magnitude. At a time
when towns like ours are going broke all over the nation "our officials" want to
spend, spend. spend!
Tomball is a Sanctuary City. Taxpayers fund and maintain a day labor center that caters to
those who are here illegally. Ignoring federal laws is acceptable to those in office now. Drugs,
prostitution, and crime are on the upswing.
Our Mayor's efforts to keep the illegal activity growing is backed by the Houston
Communist Party and La Raza!
2. This is coming to a neighborhood near you!
In the past a controlled group of citizens has decided in each election who runs our
town and who does not. Most of Tomball's City Council are handpicked allies of the
Mayor! Our goal is to support good people in office.
On May 14th, 2011, Tomball voters have a choice, either to elect two lawyers who are supported by a network
of attorneys or to elect two concerned conservative citizens of our city.
One of the lawyers is a newcomer.
The other one, an incumbent, is not only under investigation by the Texas Ethics
Commission, but is also one of three councilmen who voted in favor of keeping The Day
Labor Center even though 80% of polled citizens were opposed to this action.
Do we really need more Lawyers running our government when our tax dollars are
already paying for a City Attorney? Why does Tomball need three lawyers representing
regular citizens?
Do you really want higher taxes?
Do you want to see our City Officials continue to spend, spend, spend?
Do you really want to see Tomball remain a SANCTUARY CITY?
CLEARLY THE ANSWER IS NO!
The two candidates who most closely adhere to our principles are Judy Wilson and
Bill Webb.
Judy has lived here 20 years and has been active in this community. She is a business
owner and has worked as a corporate internal auditor for one of the nation's largest
corporations. She is a fiscal conservative who opposes tax increases at a time when so
many are struggling. She will represent people from all walks of life in Tomball.
Bill Webb was born here and has served many years trying to do what's best for
Tomball. He has served as Mayor of Tomball and as a Councilman in the past. He has
conservative values and believes in fiscal responsibility.
Both Bill and Judy will follow our United States Constitution and the laws of the state of
Texas.
Political campaigns cost money and we are asking for contributions from our members
to help fund their campaigns. Some friends have given as much as $500 to help get the
campaign going. Many others have given $100, $50 or $25, or whatever they could
afford. No amount is too small. This election is too important not to ask and I hope too
3. important for you not to contribute. It's time to step up to the plate and do your part. It
doesn't matter whether you live in the Tomball City limits or not, please help us change
politics as usual in Tomball.
Are you a Patriot or a passive observer?
TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE! THERE ARE LESS THAN 6 WEEKS LEFT!
