Poisson d'avril is celebrated in France on April 1st, where people play tricks and jokes on each other. Children stick paper fish on adults' backs as a joke, shouting "Poisson d'avril" when discovered. The celebration stems from when the French king changed the calendar in 1564, and some continued following the old New Year's date of April 1, getting tricked and called "April fish" for it.
