The document discusses the nature of joy from a biblical perspective. It explores joy as described in the Old Testament as being bright, exuberant and the result of fellowship with God. The New Testament describes joy as a grace and favor that results from recognizing God's grace. True joy comes from abiding in God's love by obeying his word. The early church was characterized by praising God with glad and sincere hearts. Believers can have joy even in persecution, sacrifices, service and trials as their faith is refined.
This document discusses the concept of freedom in Christ from multiple perspectives. It begins by exploring the freedom given to man in Genesis and how man chose to disobey God. It then discusses how righteousness and obedience to God's will leads to life, while disobedience leads to death. Several passages are presented showing how Christ offers deliverance from sin and death and brings true freedom. The document emphasizes that God does not use compulsion in His kingdom, but allows man free will to choose obedience, and that obedience to God may bring persecution from others but true freedom is found only in Christ.
This document discusses concepts of forgiveness, prayer, the Ten Commandments, and the Beatitudes. It provides definitions and explanations of forgiveness as forgiving wrongs rather than forgetting, and prayer as communicating with God. It lists the Ten Commandments and their meaning. It also outlines the eight Beatitudes, describing each as blessings for those who are poor in spirit, mourn, meek, hunger for righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, and persecuted for righteousness.
What is the meaning of "Everlasting Salvation"?
Salvation means to save from sin and from all of its woeful results, of which the "second death" is the ultimate. It is, therefore, a message of life, instead of death, a message of fullness of joy, instead of unutterable woe. This is in brief the "Great Salvation." The whole scheme is beyond our comprehension, yet we can joyfully and thankfully avail ourselves of all of its benefits.
What is the nature of the salvation which is assured to the Israel of God?
Isaiah 45:17
But Israel shall be saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

This document discusses staying in step with Jesus through daily spiritual practices. It notes that while Christians gather collectively once a week, they should also gather daily through spiritual practices like prayer and meditation. The document emphasizes that Jesus is the bread and Christians need daily spiritual nourishment to remain in step with him.
This document discusses spirituality versus religion. It notes that while Americans are becoming less religious, feelings of spirituality are rising. Spirituality is described as more fluid, undefined, emotional, and individualistic, while religion is ordered, committed, connected, structured, and organized through a church. However, the document argues that one can only be spiritual if they are first religious. It also discusses how in Christianity, all gifts come from God's spirit, and how in the body of Christ we are all connected through his spirit, with Christ having the final say. The document encourages connecting with others through life groups at a church in order to focus better, build relationships, and improve self-esteem.
This document discusses the effects of wealth and encourages generosity. It notes that the Bible advises against putting hope in wealth alone and instead finding hope in God. It then lists side effects of wealth like living in denial, discontent, and being destroyed. The document argues that money can become one's greatest competitor and that the secret to a blessed life is a heart of generosity. It contrasts a "bag mindset" of always wanting more with a "basket" and "barn mindset" of giving freely, saying the generous are abundantly blessed.
The document provides an agenda for a two-day faculty/staff institute at Dillard University in fall 2010. Day one includes presentations on the state of the university, student success and affairs, fundraising and grants, academics, study abroad programs, emergency preparedness, and workshops on harassment and stress management. Day two includes college and department meetings, placement exams, and new faculty orientation. The agenda provides essential information on the topics and presenters for professional development sessions during the institute.

1. Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a mountain where he was transfigured before them, with his face shining like the sun and his clothes becoming dazzling white.
2. A bright cloud overshadowed them and a voice from the cloud said "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!"
3. When the disciples fell to the ground overcome with fear, Jesus came and touched them, saying "Get up and do not be afraid."
A Glimpse | A Sermon for Transfiguration Sunday from Mark 8:27-9:8Steve Thomason
Why did Jesus take Peter, James, and John to the mount of Transfiguration? Perhaps it was to give them a glimpse of the Kingdom so that they would have hope for the terrible journey he had just invited them to travel. We could use a little dose of that hope, too.
This document discusses how MtUnited Methodist Church can become a great church by inspiring worship that transforms lives. It suggests that great churches inspire themselves and others through worship experiences that lift people's perspectives above circumstances. The document advocates for worship that convicts, connects people to God and each other, and changes people from the inside out by giving them a new perspective and attitude. It encourages the congregation to lead by example, invite others, and fully engage in worship to help the church rise to challenges and help Jesus change lives.
This document discusses three main topics: God, knowledge and consciousness. It appears to be an introduction to philosophy that explores the concepts of God, how we gain knowledge, and the nature of human consciousness and awareness. 3) Additionally, the document discusses finding joy through attitude, participation, and making Christ the center of one's life rather than worry.
As we move from Good to Great, it will naturally be reflected in our generosity. People give things of lesser values in order to obtain things of higher values. So naturally we give our money in order to realize our dream and our calling. Generous people are always the happiest people.
The document discusses how to experience God through reading and studying the Bible, noting that the Bible contains 66 books written by over 30 people over 1,500 years with the central subject being Jesus Christ. It provides overviews of the structure and content of both the Old and New Testaments, and recommends ways to read and engage with the Bible daily through listening, examining, analyzing, remembering, thinking, and applying what is read.
This document discusses spiritual maturity and habits. It defines spiritual maturity as discerning God's will and doing what pleases Him according to His word. The goal is to be like Christ through training ourselves. Characteristics of maturity include obeying Christ, loving God and others, and being productive. Maturity is a lifelong journey, not an instant event, requiring practicing habits, not just observing. Prayer is communication with God through talking and listening. It involves communion with God the Father, through Jesus the Son, and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Christians are called to pray always and everywhere, as well as at certain planned times and places. Prayer should be simple, focused, and involve one's whole body. The purpose of prayer is to grow closer in relationship to God and participate in God's work. When prayed with faith, prayer can be effective for healing and forgiveness.

Lincoln met with a clergyman who told him that parents across the North were praying for Lincoln's strength and wisdom. Lincoln became emotional and said that without those prayers he would have failed. Lincoln asked the clergyman to pray with him, and they knelt in prayer. Lincoln felt better after the prayer. Jesus taught his disciples how to pray using what is known as the Lord's Prayer. He instructed them to pray privately to God as their Father in heaven, focusing on hallowing God's name, desiring God's kingdom and will to be done, asking for daily provision and forgiveness as we forgive others, and requesting deliverance from temptation and evil. Jesus emphasized humble, sincere prayer over repetitive, empty words.
Matthew 6 provides instruction on righteous acts like giving to the needy, prayer, and fasting. Jesus teaches that these should be done sincerely and privately before God rather than for the praise of others. The chapter also includes what is known as the Lord's Prayer, which is a model for how believers should pray, focusing on hallowing God's name, submitting to His will and kingdom, receiving daily provision and forgiveness, and deliverance from temptation. The chapter emphasizes that God sees sincere motives and rewards righteous acts done for His glory alone.
The document discusses experiencing listening prayer and having a closer relationship with God. It explores barriers to truly listening to God, such as not wanting to surrender control, fearing what God may ask of you, and prioritizing what others think. The document provides scripture for reflecting on these barriers. It includes the Lord's Prayer and discussions on fully surrendering to God's will and trusting Him despite fears of the unknown or costs of obedience. The goal is drawing nearer to God through honest, humble prayer that acknowledges our resistance but seeks His guidance.
This document discusses how to know God through complete submission and obedience to Him. It states that truly knowing God through trusting submission is the most important experience in life. It encourages turning from one's own way and fully submitting to God, as His Spirit will then live within and protect. The highest purpose is to seek God with all one's heart through studying His word.
The document provides guidance on how to know God through complete submission and obedience to Him. It asserts that truly knowing God through trusting submission is life's most important experience. God reveals Himself to those who sincerely seek Him with their whole heart. To know God, one must turn from their own ways and fully submit to God, trusting His promises and following His commands. God wants fellowship with those who belong to Him.
The document discusses several important life questions and emphasizes that the reader holds the answer to these questions through their choices and obedience to God. It addresses whether one's life will be happy, if they will have true friends, if they are saved, if the church will grow and remain faithful, and if they will go to heaven. For each question, the document provides biblical principles and passages explaining that happiness comes from contentment and obedience not possessions; true friendship requires being godly and serving others; salvation requires accepting God's gift; and eternal life depends on obedient works, but God desires all be saved and prepared a place for believers in heaven.
Matthew 6:1-18 discusses three acts of righteousness - giving to the needy, prayer, and fasting. For each act, Jesus warns against practicing them for public recognition and praise. He instructs his followers to carry out such acts privately and sincerely for God alone. The passage also includes the well-known Lord's Prayer as a model for how his disciples should pray to their Father in heaven.
Stephen gives a speech before the Sanhedrin in which he recounts Jewish history and defends himself against accusations of blasphemy. He describes how God spoke to Moses and how the Israelites rejected prophets like Moses and Jesus. Stephen's accusers are enraged by his message, and they drag him out of the city and stone him to death while he prays for forgiveness.
There are basically six forms or types of prayer. They all have specific ways they address needs, which means contrary to popular belief, God has set rules or if that word offends ones sensibilities, let’s say, guidelines to communicating with Him, ways of making these prayers function more effectively.
Many people think it is enough that they pray without ever bothering to know who God is, what His plans are, how He answers prayers and how man should communicate with Him.
It is common to see people praying only when they have a pressing need at hand. The needs they bring to God vary from finances to health to career success to material things to relationships. This is the kind of prayer, which hardly makes time for listening and understanding, fits well those who almost always rush to get ahead in life.
Just what kind of prayer brings a life of purpose and blessing? Is it the one that we can easily memorize and recite when we are too desperate already? Is it the one that tolerates small sins that we think don’t matter much to God? Or is it the sort that encourages us to be more religious or push confidently for our plans?
So much can be said about prayer but if we want to intimately experience God through prayer then we ought to turn and cling to what is perfect, reliable and true---the Bible.
It is the hope of this message to share what the Bible clearly says about prayer and lead the hearers to understand how biblical prayer can align their lives with God’s purposes.

The overarching message is that God desires his people to be generous with their time, talents and money, and that he promises to bless generous givers and meet their needs.
This document discusses the importance of starting prayer with adoration. It provides biblical passages about not praying publicly to be seen by others, but rather privately to God. It also discusses the Lord's Prayer and focusing on adoring God by acknowledging his holiness and majesty first before bringing petitions or confessions. The document emphasizes that adoration changes one's perspective to have hope by focusing on God rather than needs or problems.

We've got to allow God to strip down all the years of grime and cheap paint piled on top of each other. He needs to get down to the bare original so He can begin to fill the cracks, sand the rough edges, and make our hearts beautiful again. He’s already looked beneath the layers and has determined that we're all worth doing over.

-God keep His promises.
-God’s general providence is toward all creation
- All things were made through Him
God’s special providence is toward His children.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

3. “If prayer stands as the place where God and
human beings meet, then I must learn about
prayer. Most of my struggles in the Christian
life circle around the same two themes: why
God doesn't act the way we want God to,
and why I don't act the way God wants me
to. Prayer is the precise point where those
themes converge.”― Philip Yancey
4. “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites,
for they love to pray standing in the synagogues
and on the street corners to be seen by others.
Truly I tell you, they have received their reward
in full. But when you pray, go into your room,
close the door and pray to your Father, who is
unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is
done in secret, will reward you.
5. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling
like pagans, for they think they will be heard
because of their many words. Do not be like
them, for your Father knows what you need
before you ask him.
6. “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
7. And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
8. For if you forgive other people when they sin
against you, your heavenly Father will also
forgive you. But if you do not forgive others
their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:5-15 (NIV)
10. Get Confidence
“No good thing will he withhold from them that
walk uprightly” Ps 84:11
Before they call I will answer; while they are still
speaking I will hear. Is 65:24
11. Get Confidence
The LORD longs to be gracious to you;
therefore he will rise up to show you compassion
For the LORD is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait for him! Isaiah 30:18
14. Get Perspective
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest. Matt 11:28
Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and
all these things will be given to you as well. Matt 6:33
16. Get Humility
God will always give you what you would have
asked for if you knew everything God knows.
17. Get Humility
“The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know
what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes
for us through wordless groans.” Rms 8:26
