What is
Theoretical Orientation for ESP learner?
• English for specific purpose material-
emphasized on learner needs.
• English for academic purpose- divided into
two parts English for occupational purposes
(EOP) and English for Academic purposes
(EAP)
• English for specific purposes (ESP) – Should be
designed to meet specific needs of the
learner.
The role of ESP in English teaching
• ESP will help the learner to improved their
main knowledge for instance computer
knowledge‘s. ESP always moves in target
learning and help them in learning languages.
• Needs analysis-Identify the learner needs
capabilities ,potential and preferences and
give the correct materials for the students.
Context of practice
• Identify what is the target needs :
– Necessities- types of need determined by
demands of the target situation which is what the
learner has to know in order to function
effectively in target situation.
– Lacks-we need to know what the schemata of the
students and decides which of the necessities
thelearner lack.
– Wants-clear idea of necessities of the traget
situation.
How to get information about target

• Informal consultations with lecturer, learners
and other.

• Course design is negotiated process.
