Challenge
The customer creates and markets unique software-hardware solutions for the world’s largest
vehicle manufacturers. Test Center carries out quality assurance and controls all hotfixes, patches
and releases of the company’s products.
Solution
Specifically for the customer’s products, Applied Systems customized and implemented test
automation solution – Octopus. All the described usage scenarios were implemented in the
installed system, and the scalable architecture provided the client with opportunities for
extension.

A fast HTML5 application to visualize vehicle speed profiles.
The client wished to replace existing stand-alone application with a modern browser
solution to meet advanced standards. The large number of settings, the long history of
changes in the software, and accuracy requirements have made the task challenging.
Solution
Applied Systems developed a browser app that meets the customer’s requirements:
• Visualization accuracy (better visualization of actual position on the prescribed
speed profile, tolerance bands, essential data about the test such as the test phase,
actual speed, the number of speed violations, alarms, etc.);
• High refresh rate to make the speed profile curve clear and smooth;
• No delays exceeding 1/10 of a second in the refresh rate.
Results
Applied Systems’ solution has become an essential component of the exhaust gas
measurement system. Using HTML5 as the key technology has brought numerous
advantages such as cross-platform compatibility (PC, tablet), easy access to data for
mobile devices, Wi-Fi support, improved overall robustness as well as reliability and OS

Medical gas monitoring system
The created IoT system allows controlling the medical gas pipeline equipment in the
public hospitals network.
Challenge
The medical gas pipeline system is one of the key elements of every hospital. To ensure
comprehensive service, avoid time-consuming visual inspections, reduce the costs of
maintenance, the customer decided to build a monitoring system of medical gas
pipeline equipment. The customer requested a proof of concept of the monitoring
system based on open-source software.
Solution
We agreed the architecture of the IoT system based on open source instruments for
data acquisition, storage and visualization.
Results
The customer can monitor a status of medical gas supply systems in a network of public
hospitals, allowing maintenance and repair to be punctual and less expensive.

of Drivers for Measurement Devices
An innovative .NET/WPF solution to speed up development and editing of drivers for a
wealth of measurement devices.
Challenge
The client’s primary product is a state-of-the-art automation system used for rig testing:
from the component testbed to the engine, powertrain and vehicle testbed. Being a
leading automotive supplier, the client sets the highest standards in terms of
performance, usability and innovation. As part of the overall revamp of its automation
system, the client wished to invest in a new device driver editor that would successfully
tackle usability and functional challenges.
Solution
We performed all phases of project development, including requirements analysis,
design, implementation and quality assurance. Special attention was devoted to
usability improvements. Clickable prototypes were created to elaborate user flows
scenarios and define interaction paths.
Results
The client and its customers use our solution to develop and integrate measuring
devices in the automation system. Application offers all the necessary tools to edit
drivers for measurement devices with minimum effort and maximum accuracy.

Enhancing Real-Time Data Analytics in Vehicle Emission Testing
A data visualization and analytics tool to provide sophisticated insights based on a wealth of

Challenge
Almost any automated system, however complicated it may be, needs a component to visualize
data flows, control the execution of tests and measurements or simply monitor activities. Data
visualization techniques allow analyzing the current trends in real time and responding to any
changes with adequate measures and in a timely manner
Solution
As the customer specializes in sophisticated multi-component engineering systems that run
tests with numerous parameters and configurations on a 24/7 basis, emphasis has been placed
on the simplified management of large data flows and consideration of specific emission testing
requirements.
Results
The new component allows the customer to visualize simultaneous data flows from different
sources and facilitates data analysis building graphs that show dependencies and help
calculate values and characteristics at particular time intervals.
Designed as an independent and self-sufficient component, the plug-in has been seamlessly
integrated into a number of other customer’s projects with equal efficiency.

Graphical programming environment for test procedures
The programming environment designed to develop test procedures for the automotive
testbeds using visual language.
Challenge
The challenge was to create a specialized tool for developing test procedures in the form
of an intuitive environment for the application engineer. The tool shall provide clear
visualization of the system logic and shall not require knowledge of text-based
programming languages. Its usage should result in saving costs in the process of test
procedures development.
Solution
We designed the programming environment for test procedures in the form of
workflow diagrams. Our graphics editor defines the operation process of the procedure
using standard workflow elements and specialized blocks controlling every aspect of
the test sequence.
The advanced tools for comparing procedure help to find the changes made in the
procedures during their lifecycle. This is especially helpful for commissioning engineers,
who need to quickly find the problems on customer sites.
Results
The procedure editor was implemented and supplied to the customer as a reusable
component. The customer has integrated the editor into several products and successfully
uses it to develop test procedures for different runtime environments.

Configuration Software for Emission Testing Systems
With the help of Applied Systems’ configuration software, the client reduced equipment
configuration time for their multi-million dollar product from 3 days to 2-3 hours.
Challenge
The customer specializes in sophisticated products and solutions for the automotive
industry, including emission testing benches – special multi-component engineering
systems. The manual setup of custom configurations is very flexible, but each containing
more than 10,000 various parameters. The task was to create a tool that allows you to
automatically generate and carry out configuration for the controlled equipment.
Solution
The idea was to develop Configuration Manager that adjusts most of parameters based
on the minimal input data. While using it, a user has to enter only high-level information
formulating the requirements to the hardware configuration.
Results
Our system allows you to greatly reduce effort for the equipment configuration creation:
an average configuration can now be made up within few hours instead of several days.
The Using Configuration Manager eliminated the bottleneck in the production and allowed
to accelerate product promotion on the market and increase scale of manufacturing.
