Antoine Dubus joined SPIE in 2007 through a work/study internship where he gained technical and manual work experience. He has since progressed from project manager assistant to project manager. As project manager, he is responsible for organizing work teams and ensuring projects are completed on time and on budget while managing multiple sites. Dubus credits his work/study internship for providing concrete training in the field with professionals and rapid progression in his technical skills and responsibilities. He has now been with SPIE for 10 years as a project manager.

1. How did you originally join SPIE?
Antoine Dubus: In 2007, when I was studying for a vocational training certificate in electrical
engineering, I was looking for a job combining technical and manual work. I found what
I was looking for at SPIE Sud-Est, where I was hired on a work/study internship, alongside
a project manager. I took a degree-level qualification as a technical coordinator for electrical
installations and was hired as a project manager assistant. After a while I was put in charge
of technical studies, and then in 2015, I was appointed project manager.
What are your main duties today?
A. D.: I’m responsible for the execution of one or more sites, from the studies to the end of
contractual obligations. I’m in charge of organising works by guaranteeing the implementation
of technical, human and material resources while ensuring that the contract is carried out on
budget and on time. I also manage the site managers and team leaders and organise their work.
At particularly busy periods, I can be supervising as many as twenty people! It’s a great
responsibility. In my job, you’ve got to be a natural manager, a good negotiator and be able
of maintaining and developing a portfolio of customers.
What was the benefit of a work/study internship for you?
A. D.: It gave me the opportunity to get concrete training in the field with professionals.
At SPIE, I have always been well supported, especially by my mentor, a project manager
who taught me all the tricks of the trade. I progressed rapidly technically and in terms
of responsibility. SPIE gave me my chance and I’ve remained faithful to it for ten years.
Originally hired on a work/study internship, Antoine Dubus, 30, is now a project manager
at SPIE Sud-Est, responsible for all the phases of the execution of a contract.
With ten years at SPIE, he looks back at his career to date.
