3. ANTI DEPRESSANTS

4. ACTION
• Antidepressants works to increase the concentration of
nor epinephrine, serotonin and dopamine in the body.
• This is accomplished in the brain by blocking the reuptake
of these neurotransmitters.
• It takes 10-12 days to achieve the therapeutic maximum
effect.

• Dysthymic disorder
• Major depression with psychotic symptoms
• Melancholia
• Depression associated with organic disease
• Alcoholism
• Schizophrenia with mental retardation
• Depressive phase of bipolar disorder
