The Virtual Arts in Our Communities Residency celebrates the arts of New York State. Our inaugural 2022 residency focuses on the arts in the Capital District region with an emphasis on the Empire State Plaza and the New York State Museum in Albany, N.Y. During the spring term, students can register for one of five courses related to the practice, performance, support, and creation of the arts. The courses use a blended model that combines online learning with 3 virtual meetings. At these virtual meetings, students will have the opportunity to meet with their instructor and classmates, interact with students in other courses, explore virtual exhibits of historical sites, public arts displays, museum collections, and performing arts spaces.
This document outlines a plan to provide art appreciation opportunities for students in the Chester-Upland School District. The plan involves monthly field trips to the Widener University art gallery for 5th and 6th grade students. Students would view and discuss the artwork, focusing on Japanese ceramics and Asian art. They would then create their own watercolor paintings or ceramic pieces reflecting Asian influences. Finally, the student artwork would be exhibited on the sidewalks of Media during a public event. The goal is to sustain students' access to visual arts and cultural experiences.

This document summarizes a presentation about how opening up museum collections digitally can inspire creativity and new learning. It discusses two case studies: Cool Constructions, a collaboration between citizens and SMK to beautify public spaces; and Wiki Labs, where people collaborate to enrich Wikipedia art entries using SMK images. The presentation argues that today learning happens everywhere, not just in institutions, and that open collections can support "maker culture" where people engage in hands-on creative learning. It describes an event called "Mix it up!" held at SMK to celebrate open collections, featuring a remix exhibition and workshops. Feedback showed the value of open collections in empowering new forms of learning and art, while also surfacing challenges in integrating
This document summarizes an interactive exhibition held in October and November 2015 at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Caracas, Venezuela. The exhibition, called the "San Agustín del Sur Tourism Office", was designed to promote social and spatial integration in the city through art and community engagement. Over 300 children from three local schools participated in workshops and helped create maps of their vision for the city. Additional activities included discussions on local tourism, cooking workshops, and student-led tours of the neighborhood. The goal was to use art and culture to bring divided communities together and foster a more inclusive vision of the city.
The document provides information about upcoming events and exhibits at the South Carolina State Museum in early 2017. The Art Museum of WVU opened in August 2016 to fulfill decades of dreams of establishing an on-campus art museum. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12:30-4:30 pm with no admission charge. On opening day, the WVU president spoke about how the arts nourish the soul and make lives richer. The museum exhibits works from the university's collection of over 3,000 pieces, including pieces by alumni like Blanche Lazzell that depict scenes of the university and local area. While some dreams for the museum have been realized with its opening, there are still more dreams to be fulfilled about its future impact.

It details how the students were inspired by techniques used in the exhibition to create their own artworks telling stories of place and identity. Their collaborative artworks were exhibited, demonstrating how the Yiwarra Kuju exhibition facilitated cross-cultural understanding and inquiry-based learning about Aboriginal art.
Photography students studied landscape traditions from 17th C. paintings to modern photography to understand ways that cultures frame ideas and ideals of landscape. Annual photography exhibition displays
talents of student photographers and their
responses to the pandemic
ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Albuquerque Museum and the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS)
Fine Arts Department are pleased to present an online exhibition of student photography.
Focus on Youth showcases artwork from high school students enrolled in photography
programs across the district. It will be on view on the Museum's website May 8 to September 5,
2021.
"Each year we look forward to the collaboration with the Albuquerque Museum to bring Focus
on Youth to the public," says APS Fine Arts Director Gina Rasinski. "This experience has the
potential to encourage their future as both artists and/or employment in arts-based jobs. We
actually have two former Focus alumni on our Fine Arts staff."
Focus on Youth had a modest beginning. In 1986, it was held at a library near downtown
Albuquerque. In 1988, the Albuquerque Museum began hosting the show and has been
collaborating with APS Fine Arts Department on this prestigious exhibit ever since. Last year,
the show was cancelled due to the pandemic. This year, Focus on Youth is making a strong
return to the Museum in a virtual format on their website.
Those who follow the annual Focus on Youth exhibition will see something a little different this
year. Besides being virtual, the show is organized by four themes: “A Different Perspective” —
photographing from a different angle/perspective than normal; “People”— photographs of
people the student had contact with during the pandemic; “Within Reach” — photographing the
student’s limited environment due to the pandemic; and finally, “Escaping Lockdown” — when
students had a chance to get out and escape the pandemic lockdown.

Annual photography exhibition displays

Focus on Youth opens online on May 8, 2021
ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Albuquerque Museum and the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) Fine Arts
Department are pleased to present an online exhibition of student photography.
Focus on Youth showcases artwork from high school students enrolled in photography programs across the
district. It will be on view on the Museum's website May 8 to September 5, 2021.
"Each year we look forward to the collaboration with the Albuquerque Museum to bring Focus on Youth to the
public," says APS Fine Arts Director Gina Rasinski. "This experience has the potential to encourage their future
as both artists and/or employment in arts-based jobs. We actually have two former Focus alumni on our Fine
Arts staff."
Focus on Youth had a modest beginning. In 1986, it was held at a library near downtown Albuquerque. In 1988,
the Albuquerque Museum began hosting the show and has been collaborating with APS Fine Arts Department
on this prestigious exhibit ever since. Last year, the show was cancelled due to the pandemic. This year, Focus
on Youth is making a strong return to the Museum in a virtual format on their website.
Those who follow the annual Focus on Youth exhibition will see something a little different this year. Besides

pandemic; “Within Reach” — photographing the student’s limited environment due to the pandemic; and finally,
“Escaping Lockdown” — when students had a chance to get out and escape the pandemic lockdown.
"It became apparent when the students’ images were coming in that the show wasn’t going to be visually the
same as in the past," said APS Digital Resource Teacher Perry Heimer. "We usually display the show by
photographic categories: photo book, digital photography, silver print photography, digital special techniques,
and non-digital special techniques."

Because of the pandemic, students didn’t have access to their school’s darkroom, so silver print photography
was virtually non-existent. Many students didn’t have access to photo software or inkjet printers. But they had
their cellphones and some had access to digital cameras.
"Focus on Youth has been a vital partnership for over three decades," says Albuquerque Museum Curator of
Education Elizabeth Becker. "This exhibition is an important example of our commitment to supporting youth
creativity and expression. We provide a crucial platform for the student artists that makes their work accessible
to a broader audience. The exhibition also provides a valuable opportunity to connect students and their families
to the Museum."
Focus on Youth was created to highlight and celebrate high school students’ efforts in their photography classes.
Traditionally the show is juried by photography professionals in the Albuquerque area, however, this year the
APS photography teachers fulfilled this role. The 2020–21 virtual show displays the talents of our student
photographers, and in many cases, their response to the pandemic.
