The DO ANYTHING campaign will create public awareness of the new and exciting ways Libraries are evolving. Pickering Public Library is an innovation hub, housing the MakerBot Replicator 2 3D printer, the first in Durham for Public use, Google Chromebooks for public use, and features iMacs at the Tech iHelp Desk, snap together circuit creation with littleBits (see littlebits.cc), a green screen to make video with the iPad and a range of in person and online tech classes as well as a complete line of eReaders, eBooks, iPods, music downloands, audiobooks and of course good old books.
Dr. Lili Luo attended the 2019 Asian Conference on Education and International Development, and delivered a presentation on how public libraries provide programs to help mitigate summer learning loss among k-12 students. She conducted content analysis of a large urban library’s program announcements to examine the types of programs provided during the summer that aim to engage children and teens.

Family engagement is an effective strategy to increase student achievement and improve schools. However, many schools struggle with how to engage all families in meaningful ways. The National PTA Standards for Family-School Partnerships provide a framework for structuring and assessing family engagement. This session will explore how to use the National Standards strategies centered around arts education programs and activities to fully engage all families in their children’s education.

Dear Runkle Families,
I write to you as the co-chair of the Runkle PTO Annual Fund, but also as a
Runkle Parent and Alumna. My husband Jim and I are relatively new Runkle
parents — my son is in first grade and my daughter will begin kindergarten
next year — but I look forward to being an active, engaged member of this
community for many years.
Runkle played a huge part in our decision to move back to Brookline to
raise our children. My own fond memories of childhood are inextricably
linked with the relationships that I formed at Runkle: hanging out with
friends in Dean (Waldstein) Park, eating Pino’s Pizza, running the (now
defunct) kissing booth the Halloween Fair, trick-or-treating on Clark Road,
ice-skating at Larz Anderson, and singing in the 8th grade musical. I think
a lot about the relationships and community that my own children will
build during their time here, and I am so grateful to be a part of it again as
a parent.
The work of the Runkle PTO is exclusively focused on building and
supporting our incredible community of families. Whether or not you
participate in the PTO-funded resources for parents, your child benefits
every single day from the grants, events, and teacher and classroom
resources funded by the Runkle PTO Annual Fund. Inside this brochure is a
list of PTO-funded initiatives.
Your annual contribution to the PTO Annual Fund makes all of this
possible. We hope you will share your Runkle story with other families and
encourage them to support the PTO as well. If you have not made your
contribution this year, we really hope you can help us reach our goal of
$60,000 before June 1st. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Emily Foster Day
