9. Orange Shirt Day-
Monday October 1, 2018
Former First Nation student Phyllis Webstad told the story of her
first day at residential school as a six-year old girl. Her shiny new
orange shirt, bought by her grandmother, was taken from her.
This story prompted many other community members to share
their own experiences. The Residential School system in Canada
separated thousands of First Nations, Inuit and Metis children
from their families, cultures and traditions generation after
generation for over 100 years.
Help us remember that every child matters- wear an orange shirt
on Monday October 1st.
