Joseph Conrad was born in 1857 in Berdyczów, Poland (now Berdychiv, Ukraine). He changed his name when living in England to make it easier to pronounce. He became an orphan at age 11 and lived with his uncle. At 17, he went to Marseille to work as a sailor, visiting places like the Far East, Oceania, Middle America, and captaining a steamboat trip to Congo. In 1894, he stopped sailing to pursue a career in writing. original name was Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski but he changed his name when
he lived in England because the first one was very complicated to pronounce.
Joseph Conrad became orphan when he was eleven years old. Later he lived with his
uncle but tl seventeen, he went to Marseille and he started to work as a sailor. In his lots
of journey, Conrad visited Far East, Oceania, Middle America and like a captain of
steamboat he did a trip in Congo. In 1894 he stopped his life as a sailor and he began to
writing.
