Introduction:- Bedroom is called is loner because according to
Louis kahn principle , a bedroom is a place for a person goes only for
relaxing and sleeping , and in this area privacy is most required . Person
not spend much more time in bedroom so keeping in mind “THE
LONER” we have to design a bedroom.

Needs
Ambience
Wants
 The initial step to start the designing of a bed room is first to see the
need and requirements of a client.
 Need to see the Orientation of the room because of the colour of the
room depending upon the direction of the room. If room facing north
,the best colour are the yellow , ranging from a cream colour to a
purnpkin yellow. For room facing south use light gray . In sunny room it
is possible to use any colour except those which fade easily. On the wall
of the room with northern or eastern exposure, or a combination of both ,
use warm colours ; southern and western exposure demand cool tones.
 We have to see the shape of the room.
 We also keep in mind the placement of door and window for proper
ventilation and the view that is aspect and prospect if desired.
 After the shape is decided then we will arrange the furniture according
to anthropometrics and ergonomics.
 We also have to keep in mind that a bedroom is termed as a “Loner”
which means it need privacy.
 Before starting a designing we have to pay attention to the style and the
concept that we have chosen .
 Ceiling design , flooring pattern , flooring material , wall accessories ,
wall treatment , furniture design , furnishing accessories all are
depending upon the concept that we have chosen.
The points to be considered before choosing the
furnishing accessories:-
 The colour texture and the period or style of even the smallest accessory
should agree match the colous , texture and style of the other accessories
and overall decor.
 Accessories can usually be sharper in colour then the large area in a
room.
 A bright coloured small balance a dull or light coloured larger object .
Two small object balance one larger one. If the smaller object appear
lighter in visual weight then the larger one ,place them farther away
from the center and they may then appear to balance.
 Pictures are the most popular form of wall decoration. They can and
often do establish the mood or theme of a room.
 A classic décor is enhanced by scenes symbolic of ancient Greece and
roman empire or scenes of the periods during which the classic style
flourished in Europe and the united states.
 For a modern room abstracts or primitives or sophisticated scenes can
be used.
 Landscape and water scenes can be used .
 Ships at sea , with the ship featured are considered more masculine
then are plain seascapes. Flowers are particularly feminine . A sea
painting is in good taste in any room and it will given an outdoor
feeling and make room seem larger then it is.
 Family photographs and religious pictures belong to the bedroom ,
painting of family members or pets are appropriate in the bedroom.
 A picture should help to carry out the colour scheme of a room. Any
strong colour in a picture should be duplicated by an area of the
colour somewhere in the room.
 The subject matter of the picture should be in harmony with the
period style and the colour scheme in the room, and the frame should
be harmonies with the room and the picture.
 Carved gilded frame should be used only in elaborate Georgian or
other formal rooms.
 Leather frames are popular . Though they are usually quite informal
and masculine , they can be finished in very refined style.
 It is not a good idea to place a picture in “step” arrangements,
diagonally , expect on a wall next to a staircase.
 A vertical arrangement of a picture can be used in a space that is
higher then its width and a horizontal arrangement can be used in a
long area , such as the wall behind the sofa.
 A picture or a group of a picture can be used over a low piece of
furniture to balance a higher piece of furniture in the same room ,
usually on the opposite wall.
 When they are used singly different types of pictures in different
kind of frames can be used in the same room, one large picture on
the wall and two or three smaller once on another wall make a good,
balanced arrangement.
 When walls are pattered the subject matter of a picture becomes
particularly important. A lot of fine detail in the picture will conflict
with the pattern background.
 Just a book should be chosen for their content, wall clock should be
selected to show the time. They are designed to suit various types of
decorating schemes and they should, when used in homes be
attractive accessories but the design of a clock should never detract
from its primary function as a time piece.
 Sculpture made of stone, marble, wood, metal, glass, or ceramic clay
are useful in the decorating plan. Like all other items in the room
they should be In keeping with the overall décor , and they should
usually be from 8 to 18 inches high to be in proportion to the room.
 Wood and stone sculpture should be compact and solid without
protruding parts that look as though they would break off easily. A
sculpture figure should be either without arms or should have arms
attached to, or close, to the body.
 The wall candles , which are often used in traditional décor , are
usually purely decorative but they can be burned on special
occasions
 A classical style modern lamp should be at least 28 inches high.
 Colourful pillows are used liberally in modern rooms. The colour
and texture should be consistent with the rest of the room.
Sometimes pillow in bright colour are scattered about a sofa to
provide the colour accent in a room.
Thank You

Ankita gupta (b.sc id) 3sem project of interior furnishing

  • 1. Dezyne E’Cole College, Ajmer www.dezyneecole.com Project on – Bedroom Design Submitted By:- Ankita Gupta B.Sc Interior Design Submitted To:- Dezyne E;cole College, Ajmer
  • 2. Introduction:- Bedroom is called is loner because according to Louis kahn principle , a bedroom is a place for a person goes only for relaxing and sleeping , and in this area privacy is most required . Person not spend much more time in bedroom so keeping in mind “THE LONER” we have to design a bedroom.
  • 3. Design a bedroom following points to be considered:- Bedroom Design OrientationShape and size Requirements of a client Anthropometrics and ergonomics Profession of client Age group of the person Style Concept Elements and principles of design Traditional Contemporary Classic Square Rectangle Circle Conjunctive Disjunctive North South East West Child OldYoung Adult Elements Principles Point Line Shape Colour Pattern Texture Movement Balance Repetition Proportion Emphasis Unity Business Class Non- Business class Government Employee Study of human dimension, we will do the space planning that is the furniture arrangement according to the dimension of a person Needs Ambience Wants
  • 4.  The initial step to start the designing of a bed room is first to see the need and requirements of a client.  Need to see the Orientation of the room because of the colour of the room depending upon the direction of the room. If room facing north ,the best colour are the yellow , ranging from a cream colour to a purnpkin yellow. For room facing south use light gray . In sunny room it is possible to use any colour except those which fade easily. On the wall of the room with northern or eastern exposure, or a combination of both , use warm colours ; southern and western exposure demand cool tones.  We have to see the shape of the room.  We also keep in mind the placement of door and window for proper ventilation and the view that is aspect and prospect if desired.  After the shape is decided then we will arrange the furniture according to anthropometrics and ergonomics.  We also have to keep in mind that a bedroom is termed as a “Loner” which means it need privacy.  Before starting a designing we have to pay attention to the style and the concept that we have chosen .  Ceiling design , flooring pattern , flooring material , wall accessories , wall treatment , furniture design , furnishing accessories all are depending upon the concept that we have chosen.
  • 5. The points to be considered before choosing the furnishing accessories:-  The colour texture and the period or style of even the smallest accessory should agree match the colous , texture and style of the other accessories and overall decor.  Accessories can usually be sharper in colour then the large area in a room.  A bright coloured small balance a dull or light coloured larger object . Two small object balance one larger one. If the smaller object appear lighter in visual weight then the larger one ,place them farther away from the center and they may then appear to balance.  Pictures are the most popular form of wall decoration. They can and often do establish the mood or theme of a room.  A classic décor is enhanced by scenes symbolic of ancient Greece and roman empire or scenes of the periods during which the classic style flourished in Europe and the united states.  For a modern room abstracts or primitives or sophisticated scenes can be used.  Landscape and water scenes can be used .
  • 6.  Ships at sea , with the ship featured are considered more masculine then are plain seascapes. Flowers are particularly feminine . A sea painting is in good taste in any room and it will given an outdoor feeling and make room seem larger then it is.  Family photographs and religious pictures belong to the bedroom , painting of family members or pets are appropriate in the bedroom.  A picture should help to carry out the colour scheme of a room. Any strong colour in a picture should be duplicated by an area of the colour somewhere in the room.  The subject matter of the picture should be in harmony with the period style and the colour scheme in the room, and the frame should be harmonies with the room and the picture.  Carved gilded frame should be used only in elaborate Georgian or other formal rooms.  Leather frames are popular . Though they are usually quite informal and masculine , they can be finished in very refined style.  It is not a good idea to place a picture in “step” arrangements, diagonally , expect on a wall next to a staircase.
  • 7.  A vertical arrangement of a picture can be used in a space that is higher then its width and a horizontal arrangement can be used in a long area , such as the wall behind the sofa.  A picture or a group of a picture can be used over a low piece of furniture to balance a higher piece of furniture in the same room , usually on the opposite wall.  When they are used singly different types of pictures in different kind of frames can be used in the same room, one large picture on the wall and two or three smaller once on another wall make a good, balanced arrangement.  When walls are pattered the subject matter of a picture becomes particularly important. A lot of fine detail in the picture will conflict with the pattern background.  Just a book should be chosen for their content, wall clock should be selected to show the time. They are designed to suit various types of decorating schemes and they should, when used in homes be attractive accessories but the design of a clock should never detract from its primary function as a time piece.
  • 8.  Sculpture made of stone, marble, wood, metal, glass, or ceramic clay are useful in the decorating plan. Like all other items in the room they should be In keeping with the overall décor , and they should usually be from 8 to 18 inches high to be in proportion to the room.  Wood and stone sculpture should be compact and solid without protruding parts that look as though they would break off easily. A sculpture figure should be either without arms or should have arms attached to, or close, to the body.  The wall candles , which are often used in traditional décor , are usually purely decorative but they can be burned on special occasions  A classical style modern lamp should be at least 28 inches high.  Colourful pillows are used liberally in modern rooms. The colour and texture should be consistent with the rest of the room. Sometimes pillow in bright colour are scattered about a sofa to provide the colour accent in a room.
