This document discusses the use of mobile applications for geoscience field studies. It identifies several apps available on Android devices that can digitally capture field data like GPS coordinates, strike and dip measurements, photos, videos, audio recordings and notes. While these apps help geologists collect data more efficiently, the document notes limitations like a lack of open source options and inability to customize apps. It concludes that current mobile apps are useful but have not been widely adopted due to significant limitations for digital geoscience work.

3. INTRODUCTION
 The geologists field study, gather different types of
information including samples collection, photos,
video capturing, audio recording, notes, sketches,
and measurements from instrument readings such as
compasses and clinometers.
 Traditionally, a field notebook is used to mark all
the information collected in the field.
 Today, it is possible to gather field data using
applications (apps) available on android mobile
devices such as smart phones and tablets.

4.  Digitally capture the information almost directly in
to the geological field. A mobile application can allow
a geologist to significantly reduce the time s/he
spends in importing data to a GIS program or other
data manipulation system, as information captured in
the app itself is already in digital form.

5. MOBILE APPS FOR GEOSCIENTIFIC STUDY
 We identified many geological applications for mobile
devices. These apps are available from the Apple App
Store as well as Android Apps (Play store).
 These mobile applications agreement different functions
to capture and field measurements. We focused on the
potential helpfulness of the application to geologist in
the field of geoscientific study.
 For example, application such as record to GPS
coordinates , Dip and Strike, photo taking, videotaping,
audio recording, and note writing certain types of data
are essential to the work support for a geologists.

16. DISCUSSION
Some general observations:
 None of the apps are available open source. This makes it
impossible to extend them when they have a severe
limitation.
 The majority of the apps are free or had nominal cost.
Some of the free apps offered functionality for an extra
cost.
 The offerings from both the iOS App Store and the
Android Play Store are comparable.
 Most of the applications can operate completely offline,
with the exception of the two applications by Major
Forms (Geology Sample Collector & Strike and Dip) that
require an Internet connection.

17.  Most applications support offline mapping, but it
seems due to Google Maps‘ aptitude to save offline
maps automatically.
 Only three applications allow the user to dominate
recorded values, and the only two applications add
new fields data created by Major Forms (Geology
Sample Collector & Strike and Dip).

18. CONCLUSION
 The percent study geoscientific mobile applications currently
available for geological field work in official application
stores. Each applications discourses different aspects of the
geologist's data collection workflow.
 The existing mobile applications are an important step
towards improving data collection for geologists on the field
and have functionality that can help of geologists become
more efficient.
 All the mobile applications have significant limitations that
have prevented them from becoming more widely used to
