Andersonville is a neighborhood in Chicago that was originally a Swedish cherry orchard in the 19th century. It developed after the Great Chicago Fire when people could not build wooden homes elsewhere. While businesses declined during the Great Depression, Andersonville today has a highly concentrated Swedish culture and a large LGBT community. It is located on the north side of Chicago and is accessible via the Red Line subway. The neighborhood has a population of around 15,000 people with a median income of $58,000 and home prices ranging from $370,000 for townhomes to $660,000 for detached houses. Popular attractions include the Swedish American Museum and various shops and restaurants.
