Egypt is located in Africa and contains two regions - Southern Egypt and Northern Egypt. The longest river in the world, the Nile River, flows through Egypt from South to North through generally rocky, hilly, and desert terrain with little rainfall. Ancient Egypt developed along the Nile River and was divided into three main historical periods - the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, and New Kingdom.
