2. Definition
Analytical exposition is a text that elaborates
the writer’s idea about the phenomenon
surrounding.

3. Purpose/Social Function
Analytical exposition is to persuade the reader
that the idea is an important matter.
Example:
a. Smoking should be banned for several
reasons.
b. The important of having breakfast.

4. Generic Structure
 Thesis
Main topic of the text.
(What it is about)
 Arguments
The writer’s opinions to support the main topic.
More opinions, the readers will be more believe.
(Reasons)
 Reiteration/Conclusion
Re-state the main topic of the text or writer’s idea toward
the main topic.
(Re-statement)

5. Example of the text
 Thesis
Some people prefer to skip breakfast and use
the morning time for other activities, such daily
pattern is not good for us. Breakfast has some
beneficial effects for us.

6.  Arguments
Firstly, having breakfast helps us prevent overeating.
People who had breakfast in the morning will keep their
metabolism stable and prevent them from consuming
excessive calories for the entire day.
Secondly, breakfast may prevent ulcer pain. It is also
prevents the recurrence of ulcers for those who suffer from
it. Breakfast will keep the stomach filled with food so that it
can neutralize stomach acid.

In conclusion, breakfast is important to keep us healthy and
energized to start the day.

 This is true based on the facts below.
 I say that for several reasons.

9. Language Features
 Simple present tense
Pattern: S + V1
 Verb of expressions
Experience, Feel, Know, Realize, Sense, Think, etc.)
 Internal conjunction
a. Addition; besides, in addition, etc.
b. Comparison; but, meanwhile, on the other hand, etc.
c. Time; first, second, then, next, etc.
d. Cause-Effect; consequence, as a result, so, the
result.
