4. Survey Format
Currently survey has 5 responses ranging from
“completely effective” to “completely ineffective”
“completely agree” to “completely disagree”
“completely satisfied” to “completely dissatisfied”
Not forced choice (i.e. there is an option for
neutral)
No negatively worded items
5. Analysis
Average x̄ = 4.62/5
Average σ = .57
Average % = 92.4%
Range = 4.34 - 4.79 (86.8% - 95%)
7. Why does our data look like
this?
Not everyone is taking the survey, so we don’t have a good
sample
Time survey is administered: most people are still trying to
impress us
Paper format: though we say it is anonymous, we can still see
handwriting and tell who is turning it in
We use mostly positively worded items that prompt a positive
answer
Yes-saying: many participants will just go through and choose all
positive answers
8. Next steps
Change format of survey
Change time administered
Require more (preferably all) New Team
Members to take it
Alternate between positively and negatively
worded items
Include a disclaimer
Utilize forced choice item responses
9. Format of survey
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/S3SSRPS
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RL7D2PJ
Benefits: Analysis is done for us
10. Time administered
Potentially, we could have New Team
Members take the survey on their breaks
during orientation, since they will already have
the job.
Issues: Time during orientation
We could also have participants take the
survey on one of the computers in the lobby
after NHP
Issues: we would not be able to filter out or get
updated information from individuals who are
rescinded due to background etc.
11. Requiring more Team Members to
participate
One way to do
this would
be to put a
code at the
end of the
online
surveys (the
same code
so it still
remains
anonymous)
and require
them to give
that code to
us
New Team Member Surveys
Welcome to the PGT Family! As part of our New Hire process, we require all new team members
to take two quick surveys (under five minutes). You are welcome to take them on one of the computers
in the HR lobby or wait until you get home. Remember to bring this form to orientation on Monday with
the survey codes!
Survey 1:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/S3SSRPS
Code: ___________________________________
Survey 2:

Code: ___________________________________
_________________________________ ____________________________ __________
Signature Printed Name Date
12. Alternate between positively and
negatively worded items
Doing so allows us to catch those “yes-sayers”
and throw out their data since it is not useful to
us
Examples:
“During the recruiting process, I did not feel that
my time was respected”
AND “Overall, I was satisfied with the recruiting
process at PGT”
13. Disclaimer
Remind participants at the beginning of survey how
important their answers are, that it is completely
anonymous, and that they should answer honestly
Example:
“We are collecting data regarding our New Hire
process. The recruiting team here at PGT is continually
trying to grow and improve this process. We would like to
get your feedback on the New Hire process you just went
through. This survey should only take 5 minutes and your
responses will be completely anonymous and confidential.
Questions marked with an asterisk (*) are required. Please
answer all questions as honestly as possible.
We appreciate your assistance in this endeavor! And
again, welcome to the family!”
14. Item responses
Utilizing forced choice item responses “forces”
participants to either choose a good or bad
response. It gives us more useful data.
Rather than 5 answer choices, we should have
4 or 6 so that there is no neutral option.
Example:
“I was satisfied with the recruiting process at
PGT”
“Agree Somewhat agree Somewhat disagree
Disagree”
15. Importance of Accurate Data
Expanding the range and standard deviation
on our data will help us to more clearly track
and understand trends overall
With a better understanding of our data, we
can better respond to it and change as
necessary
16. Things to potentially change
Timing of the survey: When do we want to give
it now?
Item responses: 4 or 6 item responses?
Wording of questions: Incorporation of
negatively worded items and randomization of
items
Will we utilize SurveyMonkey?
Will we utilize the code system?
Any other thoughts/questions
