Analysis of album covers
1.
2. JAY Z
Here is another example of a hip hop album
cover with the artist wearing no jewellery,
very much like Waleโs . For the cover I will
be designing I decided not to use any either.
One of the reasons for this was because I felt
that if Sarz was wearing a lot of jewellery it
would come across as him trying to be
something heโs not yet. He is a teenaged
unsigned artist, being flashy is not
associated with this. Chipmunk who I have
got as an example can be in the category of
flashy. He can do this as it is a symbol of his
success, even the title of the album suggests
this. On his older albums when he was
younger he did not dress him self with big
chains etc.
3. HERE ARE TWO MORE EXAMPLES OF HIP HOP ALBUM COVERS WEARING WHITE T
SHIRTS. ON THE LEFT IS A J.COLE ALBUM HER IS WEARING A VARSITY JACKET
OVER THE WHITE TEE, BUT HE HAS DELIBERATELY CHOSEN THE T SHIRT. ON THE
RIGHT IS A WALE ALBUM HE IS ALWAYS WEARING ONE.
I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT IT IS COMMON FOR RAPPERS WEARING JEWELLERY.
ALTHOUGH I DID NOTICE THAT NOT EVERY ALBUM COVER DID. SO I CAME TO THE
CONCLUSION THAT THERE WASNโT A STRICT CONVENTION.
4. CHIP
Here you can see the โTransitionโ between his
1st album to his latest. The jewellery her is
wearing now could signify how he has
progressed into a successful artist. Sarz may
become successful, so for his next albums or
mixtapes it would be more appropriate for him
to show this off. Rather than add things in
under false pretences.
This is the album cover for
Chipmunk a UK hip-
hop/Grime artists. He falls
under the same category as
Sarz. There are conventions
that are common on hip
hop album covers. A trend
that I spotted in my
research is that it is
common for the artists to
be wearing a white T-Shirt.
I believe this to be the case
because it is a simple and
fashionable item of
clothing.
