The Maltese Falcon Analysis
The Maltese Falcon, by Dashiell Hammet, revolves around the deceptions told by various
characters. Samuel Spade is a detective who encounters multiple characters offering him money
to find the Maltese Falcon. Throughout his search, most of the characters lie to Spade to get
what they want. The Maltese Falcon s plot develops through a sequences of deceptions told by
specific characters to achieve their goals. Brigid O Shaughnessy comes across as the master liar,
tricking both men and women into thinking she is on their side. When she is first introduced,
she goes by the name Wonderly and tells the elaborate tale of how her sister has been taken by a
dangerous man Floyd Thursby, whom she has been involved with for a while. She finally
reveals to Spade (Hammet, 33), That, that story I told you yesterday was all, a story, and this
shows how she tricks Spade into helping her because she appeared helpless and in desperate need
of help to save her family, when she is only trying to save herself. Spade now has no reason to
trust her, making her not a reliable source for information, and will continue to help her for money,
or to find out what happened to his partner. The liewas in the way I said it, and not at all in what I
said... It is my own fault that you can t believe me now. In this quote, Brigid is trying to make a
point that there are various forms of lies, but a lie is a lie and she tries to make a distinction
between the way she lied and what she lied about. After Brigid is thought to be dead after the
ship, La Paloma, blows up, Spade gets a panicking call from Brigid, which turns out to be a set
up to distract Spade. We well, persuaded her to phone your office in an attempt to draw you
away before Jacobi got there, and we sent Wilmer after him (193). This statement shows how
Brigid is willing to lie to Spade so that the group, who has been working together for a while, gets
what they want. Spade continuously falls into Brigid s lies, and comes across as he trusts her,
although it was made clear in the beginning she is not trustworthy. Brigid does not seem to care
about lying to anyone, especially Spade, although she appears to beguile him. Brigid appears to

An Analysis Of The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka
The metamorphosis, written by a German author Franz Kafka. Kafka and his Metamorphosis is a
masterpiece of absurdist literature, but what is the most absurd part in this whole story ? Everyone
s first reaction may be human turn into beetles this setting could be the most absurd sense indeed,
because this kind of transformation is never going to happen in reality. However, in the history of
literature, there are numerous similar metamorphosis plot happens between humanand animals or
plants, the ancient Greek mythology has the story of the bulls; the ancient Roman Apuleius s
golden donkey tells the story of a man into a donkey and so on. Therefore human turn into beetles
is not particularly absurd set, or that is not enough to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the death of Gregory, the family relieved, have to go out to picnic. From Gregory into
insects to death, only a few days time, this family is not like just lost the baby son look. We can
not help to ask: this mentality is really normal? People in real life will not become insects, but
their families will also appear above the absurd mentality? Let s take a look at the subjective
feelings of Greggel s insects: loss of language skills, inconvenience, reduced appetite, and care
for people. What is the closest thing in real life? That is sick. Kraft s most prominent artistic
feature is the overall absurdity and detail of the truth, the work of the central event is absurd, but
the central environment of the incident is true, resulting in actual situation effect. Specifically to
this text, the central event that becomes a bug is absurd, but the family s response to this event
is real. When a person from the pillar into a terminally ill patient, his family will certainly be
very concerned, very sympathetic. But when the patient gradually lost the ability, when the
family economic burden is getting heavier, the family s boredom and complain will naturally
arise. And when the patient becomes the biggest obstacle to a new life, the family is even happy
for his disappearance. We will never become a bug, but we will definitely become a patient. If the
closest person would treat us like a bug, that would be more desperate. The main idea of Kafka s

very costly due to the odd angles of the space. The Charanians insisted that McClain could rely
on their measurements of the area. 15.In early 2005, McClain obtained a copy of Octagon s

Jack Kerouac was an American writer and poet of French Canadian descent who made a
significant mark in history in writing during the post World War II era. He was recognized as the
leader of the Beat movement generation and most popular book, On the Road which was published
in 1957. The Beat Generation was known as the movement that was started by a group of authors
that researched and influenced American culture and politics at the time. It can be understood to
say that the Beat Generation was the precursor for the Flower Children of the 1960 s. These group
of authors of the Beat Generation included Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Sal
Paradise and others. Majority of the work of the Beat Generation was recognized and published

Horror
Carrie is a story about a girl who has never fit in at school. All the other kids were always mean to
her. They ether never thought of her feelings, or didn t care. One day, in the girls locker room, the
teasing got out of hand. This time, a teacher caught them. This time, revenge was in order. At least,
that s what Chris Hargensen thought. The punishment for their crime, no prom. Chris wasn t going
down without a fight, but she sure went down. When a vicious prank is pulled on Carrie at the
dance, she snaps and unleashes he telegenic power on all the kids, teachers, parents, and the rest of
the town. The town will burn with Carrie s revenge, but will she burn with it?
Carrie White Carrie is the main character (you can tell by the title), but I would also say she is
partially the antagonist. Her mother raised her to be very religious and told her almost
everything she did was a sin. When Carrie wasn t like the other kids, they made fun of her. When
they would make fun of her, she got mad. And when she got mad, bad things happened. Carrie
learned she had telekinesis. The older she got the more interested she became in her power, so she
learned to control it. But a horribly treated girl and a dangerous power don t mix.
Sue Snell Susan Snell is the perfect girl every parent wants as their daughter. Good grades, nice to
everyone at school, and very pretty and popular. But when the teasing broke out in the locker room
she joined in.

Iago Is A Villain
Imagine a promotion someone worked all their life to get was ripped away at the last second by
someone else. The promotion was something they had put all of their effort towards getting, and
they rightfully deserved it. This is how the character, Iago, in William Shakespeare s play Othello
felt. Instead of quietly cursing the person who gave away his position, Iagoacted against the main
character, Othello, in order to satisfy his thirst for revenge. Through Iago s quest for revenge, he
manipulates the other characters, acts on his psychopathic anger, and impersonates being a friend
to all of the characters. This reveals his complexity as a villain and enables him to justify his
actions and get what he wants. Iago s manipulation of the other

Analysis Of Shake It Off
Taylor Swift s Shake It Off was released as the lead single from her record topping album 1989
and became a smash hit across the world. Written with the help of Max Martin and Shellback,
Shake It Off is an uptempo pop song that is in the key of G Major at a tempo of around 160 beats
per minute. Vocally, Swift s range in the song spans two octaves from G3 to G5. The rhythmic
beats leave an impression on any music lover. The song begins with boisterous drums pertaining to
the idiophone family that create a pop rhythmfrom the start. The drums are multi timbral,
syncopated, and upbeat with the bass drum being deep and resonant in the ears of any listener. The
ride cymbal is prominent throughout creating a rhythm that never sways. The texture... Show more

At the end of the B phrases we see choral injections ooh ooh ooh that provide contrast with the
melodic direction and the range of Swift s lead vocals.
The form of the song follows a AAAB and like most songs, the form style contains intro, a verse, a
pre chorus, a chorus, which is repeated again. Swift adds a extra hook before the bridge. Swift raps
to a telephonic sound that seems to belong to an electrophone. The arrival of the chorus sees a
plethora of instruments being unleashed all at once. Swift manages to use different words against
the same melodic pattern thus seemingly changing the melody. The instruments played in Shake It
Off are the baritone sax, trumpets, trombone, acoustic and bass guitar, drum kits, handclaps, and
sustained chords on synth keyboards. The entire song sees a steady beat playing on the drum kits
with the ride cymbal prominently tapped on throughout the song and upbeat baritone sax plays in
the background.
Shake It Off has a variety of nonvocal sounds. The first nonvocal sound is heard at 0:14 and again
at 0:16 in which Swift hums mm mm mm . This humming is repeated multiple times throughout
the song. At 0:19, Swift s giggle is heard which conveys the feeling that she is laughing off the
assumption that she goes on too many dates . One of the main nonvocal sounds heard in Shake It
Off are the 3 beat hand clapping first heard at 0:40 and again at

Role of Fate in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Role of Fate in Romeo and Juliet Who would think that fate and destiny would play a big role in
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet? Fate is the belief that an individual s life is being decided for
them and there is nothing they can do to change it. Based on Dictionary.com definition, fate is
something that unavoidably befalls a person . However, in this play, Romeo and Juliet, fate is a
reality. It seems like a constant happening and is always creating trouble especially between the
Capulets and Montagues. The idea of fate works on several stages. Shakespeare chooses Romeo
and Juliet from two families that are against each other, and there is nothing these two lovers
can do about this. We can see many examples of fate through the play that are as follows: One of
the first examples of the fate in Romeo and Juliet is before the play begins. The Prologue points
out that there is fate between Romeo and Juliet. It mentions them as star crossed lovers and their
love as death marked that implies they have no control over what is going to happen. Audiences
can clear imply that their love will change to a tragedy. The second fated event is when Peter, a
Capulet servant, reach Romeo to ask to assist him in reading the list of the guests to Capulet s
feast. As Romeo reads the list, he notices that his first love, Rosaline, will be attending the feast.
Fate brought Peter to ask Romeo for help which resulted in Romeo seeing Rosaline s name, going to
the party, meeting Juliet,

Character Analysis Of A Problem By Anton Chekhov
intro / p1 apathetic / p2 irresponsible/stubborn / p3 miscreant/
Characters are ultimately defined as the driving forces throughout various stories; therefore,
characters possess diverse traits and emotions that motivate them to further a plot through their
dialogue and action. Furthermore, Anton Chekhov centers his short story, A Problem , around a
delinquent youth named Sasha Uskov. As a character who is arguably quite complex, Chekhov
emphasizes these elements of characterization with a certain depth that encourages readers to
distinguish Sasha and Ivan, his uncle, as static and dynamic characters respectively. Sasha is
undeniably avaricious, whether it be due to the societal influence in Russia during the late 1800s,
or a personal, intense yearning for material wealth. This materialistic nature can be elaborated upon
by his actions throughout the story. For example, A Problem is entirely constructed on the situation
Sasha has imposed on the family by forging a promissory note and furthering his debt. Moreover,
Sasha s obstinance appears throughout his dialogue, which denies any relation to criminality as a
whole, belaying that he is either stubborn or close minded. However, his intricacy entirely
manifests itself toward the conclusion. Despite Sasha remaining as a miscreant throughout the
entire story, he does acknowledge his long needed self revelation that he is indeed a criminal.
Therefore, it can be deduced that Sasha is not entirely as static as Chekhov may initially want his
readers to believe. Chekhov s clever characterization portrays him as a stubborn criminal, rightfully
so, but additionally implies his complex nature as a confused youth who firmly believed he was
not a criminal and has been influenced by his peers who are clearly committing the very same
crimes.
From the very beginning, Chekhov exposes his readers to Sasha s apathetic behavior and
establishes that Sasha is beyond all possible redemption. Moreover, Chekhov made it a point to
frequently direct attention to Sasha s indifference through his well written characterization.
Chekhov, in reference to Sasha, revealed, He felt neither terror, shame, nor depression, but only
weariness and inward emptiness (page 3). This

The Green River Killer Gary Ridgway is one of the most notorious and prolific serial killers in
the United States, having killed 49 women from 1982 1998. He is commonly referred to as the
Green River Killer because his first four victims were found near the Green River in
Washington. Each victim was strangled, often solely by Ridgeway s hands which is an
exhausting way to kill; additionally Ridgway was found guilty of rape and necrophilia ( Gary
Leon Ridgway, n.d.). As a child Ridgway often wet the bed: one of the factors in the homicidal
triad; a series of three traits that serial killers often display in some capacity. His relationship
with his mother was troubled; she was overpowering and often teased him in front of family
about his problem with bedwetting. Later, Ridgway admitted to having conflicting feelings of
attraction to and wrath against his mother ( Gary Leon Ridgway, n.d.). A low IQ of 82, and
multiple failed years in school also contributed to his difficult childhood ( Gary Leon Ridgway,
n.d.). His first violent offense was at age 16 when he stabbed a six year old boy, who lived through
the attack. The boy stated that Ridgway had laughed and said I always wondered what it would be
like to kill as he left the scene ( Gary Leon Ridgway,

A Study Of Ecology And Its Effects On The Environment
Competition in ecosystems has become central to the study of ecology, and has been implicated as
a major factor behind the patterns of species abundance and distribution. Though often studied
together, abundance and distribution are two distinct designations, abundance being the density of
a species in a given area, and the spatial arrangement of that species in an area is referred to as the
distribution (Brown, 1984). In ecological terms competition refers to a fight between two
organisms, of the same species or different, for a limiting resource, leading often to an adverse
effect on one or both organism (Birch, 1957). When one of the organisms in the competition out
competes the other for the desired resource this results in a negative... Show more content on

It is important to emphasize that exploitation and interference competition mechanisms can be
intraspecific or interspecific, thus are classified as real competition, while apparent competition is
typically only of the interspecific type (Birch, 1957). With that said, of all forms competition,
interspecific competition, the competition between two or more species, has been studied most
intensively as cause behind patterns of distribution and abundance within populations of species.
However, there has been much disagreement regarding the prominence of interspecific competition
in natural environment, and whether it actually effects the abundance and distribution of species. In
this paper the history and application of interspecific competition, along with a common model
used to illustrate it will be evaluated, through their use in various ecological researches.
History of Interspecific Competition Though the study of ecology is a relatively new science, the
earliest records of competition in biology and in the environment can be traced back to Charles
Darwin (Park, 1954). Darwin, the father evolution, placed great emphasis on the importance of
competition, specifically interspecies competition, in the process of natural selection and species

The Two Willy Lomans in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
There are two Willy Lomans in The Death of a Salesman. There is the present broken, exhausted

fifteen years before, who appears in the flashbacks. One actor portrays both, readily shifting from
one representation to the other. To some extent, of course, the personality remains constant. The
younger Willy, although given to boastful blustering, does admit misgivings to Lindaand loneliness

At this point, however, relations are strained. Although Willy shies away from remembering so
painful an episode, he knows in his heart that the Boston affair left the boy bitterly disillusioned.
Feeling some sense of guilt, Willy fears that all of Biff s later difficulties may have been really
attempts to get revenge. Biff has failed, in other words, mainly to spite Willy. Although outwardly
resenting such alleged vindictiveness. Willy still wants to get back the old comradeship, even if
he has to buy it dearly. Why can t I give him something, he asks the spectral Ben, and not have him
hate me? And his great final moment of joy and triumph occurs when he can exclaim, Isn t that
remarkable? Biff he likes me!
On the other hand, Willy also is emotionally involved with Biff because his son s success or
failure is also his. By becoming rich and influential, the handsome, personable Biff was slated to
provide Willy s victorious reply to all not sufficiently impressed with his own modest
advancement. By making his fortune in the business world, Biff would prove that Willy had been
right in turning down Ben s adventurous challenge to head for Alaska. He would also outshine the
sensible, plodding Charley and Bernard, thus establishing once and for all Willy s theory that
having personality and being well liked were the great requisites for preeminence. Losing his own
job, Willy is naturally unhappy. But if he

Essay about Comparison of Flood Stories
Comparison of Flood Stories There have been numerous flood stories identified from ancient
sources throughout the world. The Bible and the Koran both have flood stories that are similar but
also share differences. The Epic of Gilgamesh also has a flood myth that is contrary to other flood
accounts. Even though these stories are all dissimilar they all start because of the faults of man.
The notion of the flood comes from a varied source in each story. In the Koran it was Noah who
asked God to flood the Earth because of man s sins while in the Bible,
God called down upon Noah and told him of the plan to flood the Earth and destroy all that was
upon it because of man s wickedness. In Gilgamesh the flood comes to Utnapishtim in a ... Show

The Bible states that Noah took only his family members and two of each animal. In the Epic of
Gilgamesh it is said that Utnapishtim took not only family members but others as well including
craftsmen and a pilot for the boat. Utnapishtim also took some of every species of animal with him
because he was told to do so in his dream.
The source of the waters and the duration of the excursions were not the same. The Bible states
that it rained for forty days and forty nights with the water coming from heavy rain and ground
water. It also says that after Noah landed on a mountain it took a long time for the Earth to dry
up. During this time Noah sent out a raven and three doves until the last of the three doves did
not return and then he knew the land was dry. In Gilgamesh the rain only lasted for six days and
six nights and after stopping on the mountain the land did not take as long to dry up.
Utnapishtim also sent out birds to see if the water was still standing but he sent out a dove, a
swallow, and a raven. When the raven did not return Utnapishtim knew the Earth was clean. Both
Noah and Utnapishtim made sacrifices at the end of the flood and both were blessed but in
different ways. Noah was told his family was blessed and to go out and multiply while Utnapishtim
was made a god and given eternal life.
It is believed that the flood story in the Bible occurred first although it was recorded at a later time

Christians Should Not Press their Beliefs upon their Society
The stupidity of people amazes me. This is not to say that I am the smartest person or anything
but it still seems like adults, some having obtained several college degrees, would stop to think
before they opened their mouths. That these geniuses would put down their own personal views
and beliefs long enough to see the clear and logical answer. Instead, they are clouded by their
ingrained thought and thus cannot give an unbiased opinion. Julius R. Oppenheimer is a perfect
example. This exemplary theoretical physicist and scholar was man was quoted by theologian and
philosopher Francis Schaeffer as saying: Christianity is just a person s personal belief, while
modern scienceis a fact. Christians should not press their beliefs upon their society. I cannot begin
to state how much this statement boggles my mind. He not only states that his personal beliefs or
lack thereof, are proof against Christianity but that the unproven scientific theories that he holds are
fact. The argument here is not against his beliefs but against his unwaveringness towards those of
others.
His statement that Christianity is just a personal belief is quite true. However this is what I find to
be utterly ridiculous: Oppenheimer doesn t even leave room for a person s personal belief to also
be the truth; he wants it to stay a fairytale invented to make us idiots happy. As if for some reason
there has to be a clear line between personal and religious beliefs. Anyone in there right mind

Different Impacts on Religion
Close to one hundred and fifty years apart, both Louis XIV Edict of Fontainebleau and Luther s
Address to the Christian Nobility of the German Nation had an immense impact on religion. Martin
Luther s document would pave the way for the Protestant Reformation, while Louis XIV would

This essay will compare and contrast these distinctions and their impact on religion. Therefore,
although years apart, these two documents lead a paradigm shift, address what they believe to be
evils plaguing their lands, and put power in the hands of the temporal authorities.

The Pope s anointment and all his religious rites (unction, tonsure, ordination, consecration) all
made him a puppet and not what a real leader of the Catholic Church should have been. Luther
quoted St. Peter who said, Thus we are all consecrated as, priests by baptism , which meant all
the citizens are equal under God s eyes. Every Christian is baptized and has the ability to absolve
their sins and Luther believed that with indulgences, the Church has destroyed the great virtue of
these privileges. The second wall attacked the Church considering them to be Master of
Scriptures . He felt that if the real justice of God is found in the bible, then the Pope cannot be
the only one right in interpreting scriptures. Luther explained that if this was the case, then we
must say, I believe in the Pope of Rome, and reduce the Christian Church to one man, which is a
devilish and damnable heresy. Luther went about this on his own as he translated the Bible into
German, published the 95 theses, and with the help of the printing press, made the word of God

overcome. He believed that the Church needed to be held accountable if people felt that they are
acting contrary to the scriptures. After a period of review, the German princes eventually agreed

How Apple Evaluate Their Performance
Apple Inc. 1. How has Apple performed in the PC industry? What is your evaluation of its
performance in the PC business?
Apple, like many successful companies, has gone through the business lifecycle multiple times.
Apple went from introduction in Steve Job s garage to a steep decline into near bankruptcy. The
have most recently rode a new wave of growth and are now sitting in a mature stage as the most one
of the most highly valued publicly traded companies. Apple has continued to be a laggard in the PC
industry. Since inception Apple has taken a higher end, less mainstream approach to their product
offering. Thus, they have consistently lagged behind in global dominance of the industry. Although

However, Apple s innovations, although radical at first, continuously aimed to keep the consumer
attached with small incremental innovations. Although that strategy worked for a short while, after
a period of immense growth that vaulted Apple to the top, they seem to be coming into a mature
stage. Their inventions, once the radical innovations in the market, have become only incremental
additions to their once strong products. As the text states, the purchasing power of the early
majority subsides. Their demand was satisfied in the growth stage, and they are now making only
replacement or repeat purchases. Apple s once unheralded success seems to be eroding. Their share
price has dropped 16.5% in the last 6 months, while Google s has risen 15% (Exhibit A).
Additionally, although they just won a large lawsuit against Samsung, the Korean phone electronics
company has taken over as the world s No.1 mobile phone maker. Apple s has shown chinks in the
once impenetrable armor. The marketplace has caught up with Apple and their markets are being
saturated with other companies products that are cheaper, faster, and more user friendly than Apple

and focus their efforts to unveil a new radical innovation that can springboard them back to the top

Sociology Gender Roles
Gender role is defined, by the Oxford Dictionary, as the role or behavior learned by a person as
appropriate to their gender, determined by the prevailing cultural norms. Also known as sex roles,
these particular roles have a division between men and women. Our society is the determining
factor in how each sexes depicts their role through their actions, clothes, characteristics, etc. There
have been, and are, many issues facing both men and women in our society relating to traditional
roles that they play. Whether it s related to how both dress, talk, and socialize, none is worse than

Evil In Life Of Anthony
Religion is a matter of faith, meaning believing something without physical proof. For people
with a strong Christian faith, the idea of God is complex but makes sense. They believe God is
purely good and all powerful, and He created everything to be good. However, not everyone can
readily accept the ideologies of the Christian faithwithout some skepticism and hesitancy. Those
outside the faith or those seeking to become members often encounter one restraining obstacle,
presented in the question, If Godis good and created everything, why does evil exist? In the books
Life of Antony, The Confessions, and The Consolation of Philosophy, the authors, in their own
ways, establish clear resolutions to the theodicy problem of the presence of evil in a world
governed by an omnibenevolent, omnipotent Creator.
In Life of Antony, Antony approaches the notion of evil by presenting the existence of demons. He
states that, God has made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

created any evil nature (Loc. 1127). He claims that God is good and purely spirit, and He fills all
aspects of His creations. Having created us, we are filled with his goodness. Augustine says,
Our good ever lives with Thee; from which when we turn away, we are turned aside (Loc. 926).
By turn aside , Augustine is referring to our free will, our ability to either chose to be good like
God or to oppose Him. The opposition of God, Augustine asserts, is how evil is born, not by God
but by human will. To elaborate the importance of this truth, Augustine admits his life mistake of
having once believed evil was a substance, a being, in battle with God. He presents remorse for
having allowed the Manicheans to influence his faith in such a way and encourages people to

Development Theory And Jean Jacques Rousseau s Theory Of...
Four well known theorists each created their own ideas on how children develop mentally and
physically, how they learn from others and the conceptual of what they are like when they are first
brought into the world. Through research and their own experience, these scientists challenged the
current beliefs of their time on two topics: active and reactive development and constant or ever
changing development. The philosopher John Locke supported reactive development where
children developed completely based on what was happening in their life and growth was constant.
In his eyes, society determined how a baby boy or girl would mature and has stages that can
provide an advance declaration of their physical and mental growth in the following years. However,
the philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau supported active development and ever changing
development. To Rousseau, kids progress in how they think and look is set in stages where each
stage is not the same as the last. Each theory is based on an angle different from the others that
affect the researches questions, processes and interpretation: psychoanalytic, learning, cognitive,
contextual and evolutionary. The physician Sigmund Freud created the concept psychoanalytic
theory and also accepted reactive development and discontinuous growth. Freud created the id, ego
and superego personality components that determined how society ruled our lives. This way of
thinking gave birth to psychosexual development where there are five

Germany. With the game tied 1 1 throughout the second half, Mario Gotze (Germany) put in the go

painting is made up of high intensity. He uses vivid colors and even shapes to express the
subject matter. The different colors used catches the eyes of those who view it. The artists chose
excellent colors to go with their paintings. Interpret: Bierstadt s painting shows the Rocky

2.1 MARKET SITUATION
Market Segments:
Restaurant is not a place, which can be assigned to any one category of market, but to be more
efficient in directing the resources to the right target market, for this we have done market
segmentation. According to the given statistical data, we can easily understand why children were
chosen to be the target market:
Between 5 10 years 75% Between 11 18 years 88% Between 19 25 years 28% Between 26 40 years
45% Between 41 onwards 14%
The result of the analysis states that the age group of 5 18 is the best target segment to be focused.
The rest of them are some how related to the above two fields and can be influenced by their
demands to come to the restaurant.
Geographic Segments:
Here we subdivide markets into segments based on geographic distribution the regions, counties,
cities and towns where people live and work. This can be taken out by taking into consideration:
a) Regional population distribution
b) Urban, suburbs and rural distribution

Distortions of the Daniel Boone Legend and Their Impact
[1] The silent film, With Daniel Boone Thru the Wilderness, was produced in 1926: a time of
prosperity, an era without the skepticism of the modern American mind. People were not yet
questioning the stories and histories they had been taught as children. The entertaining story told in
this Robert North Bradbury film is loosely based on the life of an American hero. However, the
presence of several insidiously inaccurate historical representations demonstrates how an
entertaining film might not be as innocent as it initially seems. This film fails to question certain
key issues concerning the Daniel Boone legend. In fact, it does quite the opposite. The creators of

What is going on here?
[3] Perhaps the answer lies within a series of other, more precise questions. Who was the real
Daniel Boone? Why was this person chosen over other similar frontiersmen by early hagiographers
to be the next American hero? Who distorted the story of Boone s life and why? What societal
factors went into the making of the Boone legend? Why was this legend still immensely popular in
the 20th century? How did With Daniel Boone Thru the Wilderness represent, or misrepresent, the
story of Daniel Boone, and why is that important? What does all of this mean to Americans today as
this nation continues to redefine itself in the early years of the new millennium?
[4] That is a lot to consider, but with good cause. Only by asking the tough questions and
demanding accountability can a nation hope to correct its past wrongs, learn from its mistakes,
and prevent similar injustices from occurring again. This process must begin by taking a new,
more responsible look at history. Only when the facts are gathered from every possible perspective
can one begin to truly comprehend history and its importance. What, then, are the facts behind the

Alice Howland, A Professor Of Linguistics At Columbia...
This screenplay follows the protagonist Alice Howland, who is a professor of linguistics at
Columbia University. Alice Howland is later diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer s Disease,
which turns her world completely upside down; especially given her career and ambitious
nature. She becomes unable to perform normal everyday activities, and struggles with the loss
of her independence. Alice s husband, John, who is a physician, attempts to act as a guide for
her through this time, but it ultimately puts a strain on their relationship. John s job offer to
move to Boston does not help matters either, and it quickly becomes the last straw for the two of
them. He soon moves to New York to take the job after Alice s memory starts to decay at a faster
rate. John and Alice have 3 children, Lydia, Anna, and Tom as well as a son in law, Charlie.
They are introduced at the beginning of the screenplay, as they all gather to celebrate Alice s 50th
birthday at a restaurant. This is also the time in which the audience notices her decline in normal
conversation as she is unable to follow smoothly. Alice could be considered the catalytic hero of
this screenplay, and the disease being the antagonist. Alice wants to hold on to as much of her
memory that she can, and slow the regression by writing down everything. By Act 3, Alice loses

Nutrient Content When it comes to water out of the tap or the basic water bottle there isn t much to
it when it comes to nutrient content. It is made up of zero calories while having some sodium as a
natural electrolyte. This is why for the most part a person can drink as much water as they want.
Gatorade on the other hand at a serving size of 8 ounces is 63 calories. The calories are mostly
made up of added sugar at 13 grams. However, it does give more of a recharge of electrolytes

Pre-Litigation Research Paper
Pre Litigation: What Happens Before Filing a Lawsuit?
Going to court is usually the last step in a long process of trying to settle a dispute. There are
usually several steps taken before a lawsuit is even filed with the courts. These steps help both
parties prepare for the lawsuit. It also opens up opportunities to settle the dispute without the need to
go to court.
Notice
When one party has a complaint or dispute with another party, the first step in the process is formal
notification. This often comes in the form of a notice letter sent by the injured party s attorney to
the other party, his attorney, and his insurance company. This notice outlines what the dispute is
about. It may also request information on insurance coverage, policy ... Show more content on

The demand can take several forms. It may be a claim that goes to the other party s insurance
company. It may be a letter going straight to the other party demanding compensation for the injury.
The demand may be a simple letter or it may be a multi page document with copies of the
information gathered during the investigation.
Trying to Settle
The formal demand usually brings an opportunity to settle the case before filing suit. In many cases,
these settlement negotiations are informal, involving discussions between the attorneys, insurance
representatives, and clients. It may be a time when one party makes a settlement offer.
Counteroffers and settlement rejections can also happen.
More formal dispute resolution solutions are also available, including mediation. With mediation, a
neutral third party works with the injured party and the defendant to reach a negotiated settlement.
If a case cannot be settled, the next step is to file a formal lawsuit.

Corruption Of Corruption
Introduction In a democratic system like India, the role played by the judiciary is of paramount
prominence. The judiciary, through its immaculate reasoning ability helps to keep a democracy
proficiently running, and this is perhaps one of the causes why the Independence of the judiciary
is the cornerstone of India s democracy. Transparency and accountability these are two
fundamental words which help in instituting a system of good governance in any country.
Statistics and studies have shown that where there exists a veil of secrecy, there exists corruption.
And as depressing as it is, the one body which adjudicates on corruption and lays down guidelines
to prevent such corrupt activities has been affected by corruption itself. The reason why the
collegium system was criticized and the government wanted to remove it was this very reason; it
was injected and filled with corruption. The collegium system had no room for transparency, thus it

The Theme Of Symbolism In The Kite Runner
The tree was ours (27). Symbols in literature can represent a multitude ideas and there is no
shortage of important symbols in The Kite Runner. However, in Khaled Hosseini s The Kite
Runner, one important reoccurring symbol is the pomegranate tree which drives the theme of love
and relationships and is a physical symbolof progression throughout the novel. The recurring
symbol of the pomegranatecan be viewed as a physical symbol of progression and time passing
throughout the novel. The pomegranate tree is first mentioned in Amir and Hassan s youth
when they sit under it for shade and Amir will read to Hassan. The tree is indicative of their
childhood innocence and the times they share. Hosseini states Sitting cross legged, sunlight and
shadows of pomegranate leaves dancing on his face, Hassan absently plucked blades of grass
from the ground as I read him stories he couldn t read for himself (28). Here Amir and Hassan are
children sitting under a tree and enjoying their innocence. The next time the pomegranate tree is
brought up in the novel is after the pivotal scene of Hassan being sexually abused by Assef and
Amir watching while doing nothing to help. Amir is ashamed that he did not take action and can
barely function. Hassan invites Amir to go with him to hike up the hill to the pomegranate tree and
Amir accepts the invitation. As they approach the tree, Hosseini states, We sat under our
pomegranate tree and I knew I d made a mistake. I shouldn t have

Essay on Belize Barrier Reef Platform
While the human population continues to grow so does the need for land to contain the growth.
In man s attempt to fulfill this need we find that we are encroaching on lands used for diverse
wildlife and plant life. The problem comes from the fact that when man moves into these new
areas he usually takes over and in the process damages or destroys ecosystems that were in place.
This loss of ecosystems equates to the loss of animal species and also plant species. This is
happening in our world at an alarming rate. One issue that should be sending up a big red flag is
that no one knows how the loss of these plants and animals is going to affect our planet. Luckily

Examining Causes of School Violence and Solutions to the...
How many times have you or your children been victims of violence or intimidation and how
many times have you been left feeling abandoned, demoralized and full of despair because no
one will lift a finger to help. How many times have you seen the offenders caught and let off to
continue re offending in some instances? The truth of the matter is that we are all alone when it
comes to dealing with any form of aggressive behavior from children, especially in school. Did you
ever wonder why schools have so much violence? But people always want to know what really
cause children to fight and argue? It s really because children take violence into their own hands.
Usually the innocent children are the ones involved in the violence. Instead of... Show more content

Since there are so many variables it can be difficult to recognize success or failure (weaver).
Secondly, what cause school violence? School violence is in the headlines again with the
shootings at Tennessee State University. After hearing news of campus shooting or other
violence, students no matter where they go to school might worry about whether this type of
incident could ever happen to them. It is rare that on campus violence takes place on the scale
of what happened at Tennessee State or Virginia Tech. But, why does school violence happen?
There is no single reason why students become violent. Some are copying behavior they grew
up with, or saw on the streets, or in video games, movies, or TV. Sometimes, people who turn
violent are victims of teasing who have hit a limit and feel like they would do anything to make
it stop. They may feel isolated and rejected by their peers, or have undergone a break up with a
romantic partner. There is one thing experts do agree on through: having access to guns or other
weapons makes it easier for some people to lash out against the things or people they do not like.
Or if you have witnessed or experienced violence of any kind, not talking about it can make
feelings build up inside and cause problems.
Most education theorists and practitioners agree that school

Comparing Dulce Et Decorum Est And Futility
Living through inhospitable experiences conveys the lingering mental deterioration of an individual
s humanity. Wilfred Owen conveys such notions in his poems Dulce et Decorum est and Futility ,
which detail his own perspective upon the Great War by underlining the emotional and physical
exhaustion caused to the soldiers. Dulce et decorum estfocuses on the grotesque horrors of war, as
well the ever declining human nature. Futility however details the uselessness of war and questions
the pointless meaning of life. Through the use of metaphors, and other poetic techniques, both the
poems have conveyed the antiwar themes and as a result, dictates a thorough insight of the
consequences of war.
Owen s 1917 Dulce et decorum est provides insight by a result of personal experience, the physical
distress of a marine through distinct poetic techniques which represents the horrendous ideals of

Analysis Of Jane Austen s The One Hand Mansfield Park
Jane Austen is an author who sticks to her own established tropes across many of her novels. Time
and time again one can encounter the same sorts of characters and similar situations in her novel.
But Mansfield Park and Emma are two novels that tend to stand out against Austen s others and
what makes them stand out is not so much a departure from her pre established tropes, but a deeper
insight into them. In examining these two novels, one might think that the only similarity between
them is the way Austen turns her own tropes on their heads. On the one hand Mansfield Parkis
possibly Austen s darkest novel, featuring a desperately oppressed heroine whom readers have
found hard to like. On the other hand Emmais a lively novel full of hilariously ridiculous missteps
and a heroine who wields all the power necessary to cause those missteps. Yet they do have other
things in common. For instance, both examine themes of isolation and issues of a small
community, and in both novels, day trips and journeys serve to perpetuate that isolation, rather than
relieve it.
Both Nina Auerbach and Marilyn Butler touch briefly on this theme in their respective criticisms of
Mansfield Park and Emma. Auerbach paints Fanny as a monster comparable to Frankenstein s
creature and other classic English monsters such as the vampire and even Beowulf s Grendel. She
states that like Frankenstein and his monster... Fanny is a killjoy (448), and argues that Fanny
draws sustenance from her role as

How Did The French Revolution Change The World System
Wallerstein (1989) argues that the French Revolution was an impactful historical event that
ideologically changed the world system and supports this claim by identifying three significant
cultural institutions the movements, ideologies, and the social sciences. As quoted:
All in all, it added up to a political whirlwind of a kind that had never been known before in the
modern world. (pg 42)
For Wallerstein, the ultimate culmination of the French Revolution was that it served as a catalyst
in upbringing a capitalist world economy. The argument raises the significant effects of the French
Revolution however; to broadly ascribe the historical establishment of a world system towards the
event is implausible to an extent as the cultural factors and effect of social sciences were of greater
consequence in importantly shaping the history of the world system.

The Haitian revolution had recurring food riots and peasant rebellions for centuries, which was a
contributing factor towards the impetus of their demonstrations. Hence, the cataclysmic effect of
the political development in St. Domingue was due to the initiative by the people of the lower
classes who were seeking change and demanded autonomy themselves. The French Revolution did
not inspire the bourgeois for a capitalist world economy and instead evoked a sense of threat.
Instead, the actions of the masses became the change in the capitalist world system. To argue that
the French Revolution instituted cultural change in this context is implausible as the political
development in acquisition of state power was because of the anti systemic insurgents and
relentless uprisings in the past, which was not immediate but a long term social

Maui Dolphin Persuasive Essay
The Maui Dolphin an endangered species
Introduction:
1.Area of Focus:
The rapidly increasing world population (1 billion in 1820, 2 billion in 1920 and probably 7
billion in 2020) is putting enormous pressure on the habitats of many animals, as people use more
space for housing and for the production of food. The Maui Dolphin is one species affected by food
production as carried out by the fishing industry. I decided to do research on the Maui dolphin
because of its uniqueness and rarity. My purpose is to find out more about the endangered status of
the Maui Dolphin, why it has become rare, what problems are involved and what can be done to
improve the situation.
2.Research questions: My main research question is What can be done ... Show more content on

Timeline:
As far as my timeline was concerned, I spent the first day deciding on the topic and getting an
overview of the information available. The main research question was not difficult to choose, as
there is no doubt that the Maui Dolphin is an endangered species.
The next couple of days were spent in reading the information on some of the more relevant sites,
as well as skimming through a book on the topic and looking at some educational videoes. Then I
started to summarize the important facts within the framework of my research questions.
Presentation:
What: The Maui dolphin is the world s rarest and smallest known subspecies of dolphin. It is a
subspecies of the Hector s dolphin and has genetic and skeletal differences which make it
distinct from the rest of the Hector s species. The Maui dolphin has distinctive grey, white and
black markings. The sides and back are light grey, with white flames reaching up along the sides
of its body. The underside is whitish, while the face, flippers, dorsal fin and tail are all black.
There is a crescent shaped black mark between its blowhole and eyes. It has a short snout and is
easily recognized by the round shape of the dorsal fin. Females grow to 1.7 metres long and
weigh up to 50 kg. Males are slightly smaller and lighter. They are known to live up to twenty
years. The calves live on their mothers milk for up to a year although they can learn to eat at about
six months. They use

War Of The Roses Research Paper
War of the Roses is one of the most significant events that made an enormous change to the
British Parliament and England s line of succession. The House of Lancaster and the House of
York were both part of the line of succession to the throne (R. Lacey, 2007, p. 166 169). England s
royal family was divided into two parts: the House of Yorkand the House of Lancaster. The houses
argued who should be in the line of succession after the death of Henry V. Because of this feud
between the two houses, the War of the Roses (1453 1487) occurred. Components that led to the
War of the Roses are the Hundred Years War and the complicated family history. These aspects
contributed to the hatred both houses felt for each other. The War of the... Show more content on

Richard II (Edward s successor) did not agree with Edward s opinion about the war; Edward
believed that war needed to continue to protect England s pride and the English interests in
Aquitaine. However, England had no determination to take back the lost French territories
again. Richard II sought permanent peace with France because he saw no end to the war. In
1336, he was able to preserve French gains by obtaining a 28 year with France Despite England s
respectable relations with France, England s relations worsened when Richard II set two
expeditions against Scotland. The Lancastrians (Edward III s successors) believed that the loss of
the French territories was a sign from God. They interpreted the events as God s disfavor towards
England and the Lancastrians specifically. In the final stages of the Hundred Years War, the result
was that Lancastrians still searched for answers from God. Parliaments became more difficult due
to these setbacks. Lancastrians lost confidence in their government after the heavy losses from
France. Henry V risked the future of the Lancastrians for the dynastic fight against France. Later on,
Henry VI had a mental breakdown from the chaos that surrounded him. This led to the confirmation
that God no longer favored the Lancastrians. Henry VI then institutionalized warfare shifted back

The Powerful Use Of Abuse In Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
Sweat Looka heah, Sykes, you done gone too fur. Ah been married to you fur fifteen years, and
Ah been takin in washin for fifteen years. Sweat, sweat, sweat! Work and sweat, cry and sweat,
pray and sweat! Does living with abuse help you gain the strength to become a stronger woman?
Also, when does enough become enough? Such a quote is found in Zora Neale Hurstons short story,
Sweat . This quote expresses the discussion theme better than any story that has ever been told
before about abuse that is endured during a relationship. This quote helped me realize many
different things that women tend to go through in a relationship. A lot of times women take abuse,
whether it is physical, mental or emotional abuse. Society also tends to put women in a category
that is beneath a man, which may give a man the thought of him having power over women, but in
actual reality this is called abuse. The definition of abuse is the improper use of something, and that
is exactly what is happening to Delia in Sweat .
Zora Neale Hurston was considered one of the pre eminent writers of twentieth century African
American literature. Hurston was closely associated with the Harlem Renaissance. She has also
influenced writers such as Ralph Ellison, Toni Morrison, Gayle Jones, Alice Walker, and Toni
Cade Bambara. Looking at her work, it can be found to be read as a work of feminist fiction, but
it is not why you would think it would be. The quote also possess that the character is faced with

Book Report On Republic Of Debtors Essay
Book report on Republic of Debtors
This book is written by Bruce H. Mann and published by Harvard University Press in 2002*. It is
about the relationship between creditors, debtors and society culture underling the American
bankruptcy act in 1800 and the new republic trends.
In 1800, American published new bankruptcy act, and it brings huge change to our life. It has
both good and bad influences. Bruce Mann wants to use this book to show that every different
kind of economics transformations would boost America moving into Revolutionary era, no
matter if it failure at moral or others. Mann wrote his book as third person point of view and
analysed each cases such as female debtor and medical business, he said: Observing debtors,
creditors, lawyers, judges, legislators, ministers, writers, and others struggling with how the law
should address the inability of men and women to repay their debts, whether through insolvency,
bankruptcy, or imprisonment. At bottom, they were struggling with the place of failure of the new
republic. (Mann, 5) The purposes of showing all the different law cases are letting readers fully
understand the issues of American economic culture.
This book is majoring in the audiences who are interested in legal business area, due to the detail
analysis of influences from debtors. Bruce Mann used semi formal writing style, it makes readers
easy to understand his ideas, but also have clarity on the legal terms, for example: The Pennsylvania

I had a positive opinion on the reading of Wild Ones by Jon Mooallem. The book does a great
job in telling you about how humans have endangered many species around the globe. In the
story he decides to go see three endangered species a bear, butterfly, and a bird. He studied about
the animals and wrote reports on how humans have impacted their lives. For example many
polar bears are dying due to the climate change caused by humans. Mooallem also gives
examples of how we can prevent such things, one way is too reduce your own carbon footprint.
He also gave scientic examples such as, According to a 2007 study by U.S. Government scientists,
two thirds of the world s polar bears are likely to be gone by the middle of this century. Jon

How Intelligent Fixtures Affect The Production Arts
Intelligent lighting fixtures also known as moving or automated fixtures, are multi function lights
designed with the mechanical abilities that allow them to do more than a standard lighting
fixture (Revolvy, 2016). These lighting fixtures have functions of colour, gobo, intensity, focus,
prism, movement of pan and tilt, rotation speed and effects. Thought this essay the impact that
intelligent fixtures have had on the production arts as well as the possibilities of where this
technology may be going in the future will be explored. Intelligent fixtures fall into two
categories of what they can be, this is a moving head and a moving mirror. Out of the two the
moving head is seen the most, it is a main body on a yoke. With this unit the entire head moves
around and this always the beam to be aimed in certain direction. While the mirror unit have a
small mirror in front of the leans which causes the beam to reflect off a mirror that can be aimed
in all different types of directions (Leerman, 2013). In the production arts industry it was actually
the music genre with concerts and touring that began using these lights which in turn was a tipping
point towards them being used in the mainstream of the industry. They were and are still used to
create a dynamic experiences at concerts and on tours. The idea was for the audience to be able to
see the colour snaps, effects and them moving around to the music to add to the entire performance.

A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. In this extract we are presented with Scrooge. From the
beginning Scrooge is presented as a miser. In the extract we find out that he is an old, rude and
ignorant man that doesn t appreciate others around him. Dickens uses different language
techniques to describe Scrooges appearance as clear as possible. In the opening paragraph
Dickens uses imagery to create a vivid impression of Scrooge. He is described as a tight fisted
hand at the grind stone , and this metaphor suggests that Scrooge works hard for his money but is
very tight with his money. In the opening lines Dickens includes similes. Hard and sharp as a flint.

Dickens has used verbs used as adjectives when describing Scrooge such as stiffened his gait .
The effect of these words makes the reader focus on it more and because it s a long list the
reader gets a clear definition of what Scrooge looks like. The adjectives that Dickens uses aren t
describing him as being a nice person, from these adjectives you can tell that he is an old and
miserable character. Dickens focuses on temperature, when doing this he emphasises how cold
hearted Scrooge really is. No warmth could warm, no wintry weather could cool him. This
shows the reader that Scrooge is as cold as he could ever be and nothing can change him.
Dickens also uses a pathetic fallacy, he uses the weather to describe Scrooges character. The
heaviest rain, and snow, and hail, and sleet, could boast of the advantage over him in only one
respect. Dickens uses the harshest weather to describe him, showing the reader how horrible of a
man Scrooge is, using a pathetic fallacy clearly shows the reader how important Scrooges
personality is throughout the book. From this extract the reader knows that Scrooge is a negative
character. Straight away we know that he has a negative impact on others. Nobody ever stopped
him in the street to say, with gladsome looks, My dear Scrooge, how are you? This dialogue never
actually happened, this shows that the other characters in the book are too afraid to acknowledge

  • 2. The Maltese Falcon Analysis The Maltese Falcon, by Dashiell Hammet, revolves around the deceptions told by various characters. Samuel Spade is a detective who encounters multiple characters offering him money to find the Maltese Falcon. Throughout his search, most of the characters lie to Spade to get what they want. The Maltese Falcon s plot develops through a sequences of deceptions told by specific characters to achieve their goals. Brigid O Shaughnessy comes across as the master liar, tricking both men and women into thinking she is on their side. When she is first introduced, she goes by the name Wonderly and tells the elaborate tale of how her sister has been taken by a dangerous man Floyd Thursby, whom she has been involved with for a while. She finally reveals to Spade (Hammet, 33), That, that story I told you yesterday was all, a story, and this shows how she tricks Spade into helping her because she appeared helpless and in desperate need of help to save her family, when she is only trying to save herself. Spade now has no reason to trust her, making her not a reliable source for information, and will continue to help her for money, or to find out what happened to his partner. The liewas in the way I said it, and not at all in what I said... It is my own fault that you can t believe me now. In this quote, Brigid is trying to make a point that there are various forms of lies, but a lie is a lie and she tries to make a distinction between the way she lied and what she lied about. After Brigid is thought to be dead after the ship, La Paloma, blows up, Spade gets a panicking call from Brigid, which turns out to be a set up to distract Spade. We well, persuaded her to phone your office in an attempt to draw you away before Jacobi got there, and we sent Wilmer after him (193). This statement shows how Brigid is willing to lie to Spade so that the group, who has been working together for a while, gets what they want. Spade continuously falls into Brigid s lies, and comes across as he trusts her, although it was made clear in the beginning she is not trustworthy. Brigid does not seem to care about lying to anyone, especially Spade, although she appears to beguile him. Brigid appears to deceive multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kafka and his Metamorphosis is a masterpiece of absurdist literature, but what is the most absurd part in this whole story ? Everyone s first reaction may be human turn into beetles this setting could be the most absurd sense indeed, because this kind of transformation is never going to happen in reality. However, in the history of literature, there are numerous similar metamorphosis plot happens between humanand animals or plants, the ancient Greek mythology has the story of the bulls; the ancient Roman Apuleius s golden donkey tells the story of a man into a donkey and so on. After the death of Gregory, the family relieved, have to go out to picnic. From Gregory into insects to death, only a few days time, this family is not like just lost the baby son look. We can not help to ask: this mentality is really normal? People in real life will not become insects, but their families will also appear above the absurd mentality? Let s take a look at the subjective feelings of Greggel s insects: loss of language skills, inconvenience, reduced appetite, and care for people. What is the closest thing in real life? That is sick. Kraft s most prominent artistic feature is the overall absurdity and detail of the truth, the work of the central event is absurd, but the central environment of the incident is true, resulting in actual situation effect. Specifically to this text, the central event that becomes a bug is absurd, but the family s response to this event is real. When a person from the pillar into a terminally ill patient, his family will certainly be very concerned, very sympathetic. But when the patient gradually lost the ability, when the family economic burden is getting heavier, the family s boredom and complain will naturally arise. And when the patient becomes the biggest obstacle to a new life, the family is even happy for his disappearance. We will never become a bug, but we will definitely become a patient. If the closest person would treat us like a bug, that would be more desperate. The main idea of Kafka s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Carrie By Stephen King Analyse Lauren Ciha Carrie Stephen King Horror Carrie is a story about a girl who has never fit in at school. All the other kids were always mean to her. They ether never thought of her feelings, or didn t care. One day, in the girls locker room, the teasing got out of hand. This time, a teacher caught them. This time, revenge was in order. At least, that s what Chris Hargensen thought. The punishment for their crime, no prom. Chris wasn t going down without a fight, but she sure went down. When a vicious prank is pulled on Carrie at the dance, she snaps and unleashes he telegenic power on all the kids, teachers, parents, and the rest of the town. Her mother raised her to be very religious and told her almost everything she did was a sin. When Carrie wasn t like the other kids, they made fun of her. When they would make fun of her, she got mad. And when she got mad, bad things happened. Carrie learned she had telekinesis. The older she got the more interested she became in her power, so she learned to control it. But a horribly treated girl and a dangerous power don t mix. Instead of quietly cursing the person who gave away his position, Iagoacted against the main character, Othello, in order to satisfy his thirst for revenge. Through Iago s quest for revenge, he manipulates the other characters, acts on his psychopathic anger, and impersonates being a friend to all of the characters. The form of the song follows a AAAB and like most songs, the form style contains intro, a verse, a pre chorus, a chorus, which is repeated again. Swift adds a extra hook before the bridge. Swift raps to a telephonic sound that seems to belong to an electrophone. The arrival of the chorus sees a plethora of instruments being unleashed all at once. Swift manages to use different words against the same melodic pattern thus seemingly changing the melody. The instruments played in Shake It Off are the baritone sax, trumpets, trombone, acoustic and bass guitar, drum kits, handclaps, and sustained chords on synth keyboards. The entire song sees a steady beat playing on the drum kits with the ride cymbal prominently tapped on throughout the song and upbeat baritone sax plays in the background. Shake It Off has a variety of nonvocal sounds. The first nonvocal sound is heard at 0:14 and again at 0:16 in which Swift hums mm mm mm . This humming is repeated multiple times throughout the song. • 9. Role of Fate in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare Role of Fate in Romeo and Juliet Who would think that fate and destiny would play a big role in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet? Fate is the belief that an individual s life is being decided for them and there is nothing they can do to change it. Based on Dictionary.com definition, fate is something that unavoidably befalls a person . However, in this play, Romeo and Juliet, fate is a reality. It seems like a constant happening and is always creating trouble especially between the Capulets and Montagues. The idea of fate works on several stages. Shakespeare chooses Romeo and Juliet from two families that are against each other, and there is nothing these two lovers can do about this. We can see many examples of fate through the play that are as follows: One of the first examples of the fate in Romeo and Juliet is before the play begins. The Prologue points out that there is fate between Romeo and Juliet. It mentions them as star crossed lovers and their love as death marked that implies they have no control over what is going to happen. Audiences can clear imply that their love will change to a tragedy. The second fated event is when Peter, a Capulet servant, reach Romeo to ask to assist him in reading the list of the guests to Capulet s feast. As Romeo reads the list, he notices that his first love, Rosaline, will be attending the feast. Fate brought Peter to ask Romeo for help which resulted in Romeo seeing Rosaline s name, going to the party, meeting Juliet, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Character Analysis Of A Problem By Anton Chekhov intro / p1 apathetic / p2 irresponsible/stubborn / p3 miscreant/ Characters are ultimately defined as the driving forces throughout various stories; therefore, characters possess diverse traits and emotions that motivate them to further a plot through their dialogue and action. Furthermore, Anton Chekhov centers his short story, A Problem , around a delinquent youth named Sasha Uskov. As a character who is arguably quite complex, Chekhov emphasizes these elements of characterization with a certain depth that encourages readers to distinguish Sasha and Ivan, his uncle, as static and dynamic characters respectively. Sasha is undeniably avaricious, whether it be due to the societal influence in Russia during the late 1800s, or a personal, intense yearning for material wealth. This materialistic nature can be elaborated upon by his actions throughout the story. For example, A Problem is entirely constructed on the situation Sasha has imposed on the family by forging a promissory note and furthering his debt. Moreover, Sasha s obstinance appears throughout his dialogue, which denies any relation to criminality as a whole, belaying that he is either stubborn or close minded. However, his intricacy entirely manifests itself toward the conclusion. Despite Sasha remaining as a miscreant throughout the entire story, he does acknowledge his long needed self revelation that he is indeed a criminal. Therefore, it can be deduced that Sasha is not entirely as static as Chekhov may initially want his readers to believe. Chekhov s clever characterization portrays him as a stubborn criminal, rightfully so, but additionally implies his complex nature as a confused youth who firmly believed he was not a criminal and has been influenced by his peers who are clearly committing the very same crimes. From the very beginning, Chekhov exposes his readers to Sasha s apathetic behavior and establishes that Sasha is beyond all possible redemption. Moreover, Chekhov made it a point to frequently direct attention to Sasha s indifference through his well written characterization. Chekhov, in reference to Sasha, revealed, He felt neither terror, shame, nor depression, but only weariness and inward emptiness (page 3). This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main objective for Des Jarlais et al. was to identify disparities in HIV incidence during a time period where the HIV epidemic has come to an end. On the other hand, Scheer et al. aimed to estimate the HIVincidence in the state of California in order to prioritize certain populations for HIV prevention and treatment. Participants in Des Jarlais et al. were individuals who were admitted into a drug detoxification program in New York City while Scheer et al. used people living in California aged 13 years or older. This could be attributed to the more frequent drug injections used by African Americans which was also reported in the results. The Green River Killer Gary Ridgway is one of the most notorious and prolific serial killers in the United States, having killed 49 women from 1982 1998. He is commonly referred to as the Green River Killer because his first four victims were found near the Green River in Washington. Each victim was strangled, often solely by Ridgeway s hands which is an exhausting way to kill; additionally Ridgway was found guilty of rape and necrophilia ( Gary Leon Ridgway, n.d.). As a child Ridgway often wet the bed: one of the factors in the homicidal triad; a series of three traits that serial killers often display in some capacity. His relationship with his mother was troubled; she was overpowering and often teased him in front of family about his problem with bedwetting. Later, Ridgway admitted to having conflicting feelings of attraction to and wrath against his mother ( Gary Leon Ridgway, n.d.). A low IQ of 82, and multiple failed years in school also contributed to his difficult childhood ( Gary Leon Ridgway, n.d.). • 13. A Study Of Ecology And Its Effects On The Environment Competition in ecosystems has become central to the study of ecology, and has been implicated as a major factor behind the patterns of species abundance and distribution. Though often studied together, abundance and distribution are two distinct designations, abundance being the density of a species in a given area, and the spatial arrangement of that species in an area is referred to as the distribution (Brown, 1984). In ecological terms competition refers to a fight between two organisms, of the same species or different, for a limiting resource, leading often to an adverse effect on one or both organism (Birch, 1957). When one of the organisms in the competition out competes the other for the desired resource this results in a negative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to emphasize that exploitation and interference competition mechanisms can be intraspecific or interspecific, thus are classified as real competition, while apparent competition is typically only of the interspecific type (Birch, 1957). With that said, of all forms competition, interspecific competition, the competition between two or more species, has been studied most intensively as cause behind patterns of distribution and abundance within populations of species. However, there has been much disagreement regarding the prominence of interspecific competition in natural environment, and whether it actually effects the abundance and distribution of species. In this paper the history and application of interspecific competition, along with a common model used to illustrate it will be evaluated, through their use in various ecological researches. History of Interspecific Competition Though the study of ecology is a relatively new science, the earliest records of competition in biology and in the environment can be traced back to Charles Darwin (Park, 1954). Darwin, the father evolution, placed great emphasis on the importance of competition, specifically interspecies competition, in the process of natural selection and species ... • 15. Essay about Comparison of Flood Stories Comparison of Flood Stories There have been numerous flood stories identified from ancient sources throughout the world. The Bible and the Koran both have flood stories that are similar but also share differences. The Epic of Gilgamesh also has a flood myth that is contrary to other flood accounts. Even though these stories are all dissimilar they all start because of the faults of man. The notion of the flood comes from a varied source in each story. In the Koran it was Noah who asked God to flood the Earth because of man s sins while in the Bible, God called down upon Noah and told him of the plan to flood the Earth and destroy all that was upon it because of man s wickedness. The Bible states that it rained for forty days and forty nights with the water coming from heavy rain and ground water. It also says that after Noah landed on a mountain it took a long time for the Earth to dry up. During this time Noah sent out a raven and three doves until the last of the three doves did not return and then he knew the land was dry. In Gilgamesh the rain only lasted for six days and six nights and after stopping on the mountain the land did not take as long to dry up. Utnapishtim also sent out birds to see if the water was still standing but he sent out a dove, a swallow, and a raven. When the raven did not return Utnapishtim knew the Earth was clean. Both Noah and Utnapishtim made sacrifices at the end of the flood and both were blessed but in different ways. This is not to say that I am the smartest person or anything but it still seems like adults, some having obtained several college degrees, would stop to think before they opened their mouths. That these geniuses would put down their own personal views and beliefs long enough to see the clear and logical answer. Instead, they are clouded by their ingrained thought and thus cannot give an unbiased opinion. Julius R. Oppenheimer is a perfect example. This exemplary theoretical physicist and scholar was man was quoted by theologian and philosopher Francis Schaeffer as saying: Christianity is just a person s personal belief, while modern scienceis a fact. Christians should not press their beliefs upon their society. I cannot begin to state how much this statement boggles my mind. He not only states that his personal beliefs or lack thereof, are proof against Christianity but that the unproven scientific theories that he holds are fact. The argument here is not against his beliefs but against his unwaveringness towards those of others. His statement that Christianity is just a personal belief is quite true. However this is what I find to be utterly ridiculous: Oppenheimer doesn t even leave room for a person s personal belief to also be the truth; he wants it to stay a fairytale invented to make us idiots happy. Every Christian is baptized and has the ability to absolve their sins and Luther believed that with indulgences, the Church has destroyed the great virtue of these privileges. The second wall attacked the Church considering them to be Master of Scriptures . He felt that if the real justice of God is found in the bible, then the Pope cannot be the only one right in interpreting scriptures. Luther explained that if this was the case, then we must say, I believe in the Pope of Rome, and reduce the Christian Church to one man, which is a devilish and damnable heresy. Luther went about this on his own as he translated the Bible into German, published the 95 theses, and with the help of the printing press, made the word of God available to thousands of people. Four well known theorists each created their own ideas on how children develop mentally and physically, how they learn from others and the conceptual of what they are like when they are first brought into the world. Through research and their own experience, these scientists challenged the current beliefs of their time on two topics: active and reactive development and constant or ever changing development. The philosopher John Locke supported reactive development where children developed completely based on what was happening in their life and growth was constant. In his eyes, society determined how a baby boy or girl would mature and has stages that can provide an advance declaration of their physical and mental growth in the following years. However, the philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau supported active development and ever changing development. Trying to Settle The formal demand usually brings an opportunity to settle the case before filing suit. The judiciary, through its immaculate reasoning ability helps to keep a democracy proficiently running, and this is perhaps one of the causes why the Independence of the judiciary is the cornerstone of India s democracy. Transparency and accountability these are two fundamental words which help in instituting a system of good governance in any country. And as depressing as it is, the one body which adjudicates on corruption and lays down guidelines to prevent such corrupt activities has been affected by corruption itself. The reason why the collegium system was criticized and the government wanted to remove it was this very reason; it was injected and filled with corruption. The collegium system had no room for transparency, thus it eventually led to activities of corruption and nepotism taking place. Such acts of corruption, nepotism etc. would in the long run affect the judiciary and the stability of the government. School violence is in the headlines again with the shootings at Tennessee State University. After hearing news of campus shooting or other violence, students no matter where they go to school might worry about whether this type of incident could ever happen to them. It is rare that on campus violence takes place on the scale of what happened at Tennessee State or Virginia Tech. But, why does school violence happen? There is no single reason why students become violent. Some are copying behavior they grew up with, or saw on the streets, or in video games, movies, or TV. Sometimes, people who turn violent are victims of teasing who have hit a limit and feel like they would do anything to make it stop. Time and time again one can encounter the same sorts of characters and similar situations in her novel. But Mansfield Park and Emma are two novels that tend to stand out against Austen s others and what makes them stand out is not so much a departure from her pre established tropes, but a deeper insight into them. In examining these two novels, one might think that the only similarity between them is the way Austen turns her own tropes on their heads. On the one hand Mansfield Parkis possibly Austen s darkest novel, featuring a desperately oppressed heroine whom readers have found hard to like. On the other hand Emmais a lively novel full of hilariously ridiculous missteps and a heroine who wields all the power necessary to cause those missteps. Yet they do have other things in common. For instance, both examine themes of isolation and issues of a small community, and in both novels, day trips and journeys serve to perpetuate that isolation, rather than relieve it. Both Nina Auerbach and Marilyn Butler touch briefly on this theme in their respective criticisms of Mansfield Park and Emma. The argument raises the significant effects of the French Revolution however; to broadly ascribe the historical establishment of a world system towards the event is implausible to an extent as the cultural factors and effect of social sciences were of greater consequence in importantly shaping the history of the world system.
