C is a structured, procedural
programming language that has
been widely used both for operating
systems and applications and that
has had a wide following in the
academic community.

6. Disadvantages of c language
1. C languages has no run time checking
mechanism.
2. C does not support Object Oriented
Programming(OOP) features, so to overcome
C++ languages was introduced.
3. C languages has no strict checking.
4. C language does not support exception
handling.

7. Uses of c programming
The C programming language is used for
developing system applications.
Below are some examples of c being used.
• Database systems
• Graphic packages
• Word processor
• Spreadsheets
• Operating system development

8. Basic data types of C
C has the following basic built-in data types.
int
Float
Double
char

9. Int-data type
Int is used to define numbers.
Example:
{
int Count;
Count =5;
}

10. Float-data type
Float is used to define floating point numbers.
Example:
{
float Miles;
Miles = 5.6;
}

11. Double –data type
Float is used to define BIG floating point
numbers. It reserves twice the storage for the
number. On PCs this likely to be 8 bytes.
Example:
{
double Atoms;
Atoms = 2500000;
}

12. Char – data type
Char defines characters
Example:
{
char Letter;
Letter = ‘x’;
}

13. Modifiers
The data types explained above have the
following modifiers.
 Short
 Long
 Singed
 Unsigned
The modifiers define the amount of storage
allocated to the variable.

14. C function
A large C program is divided into basic
building blocks called C function. C function
contains set of instruction enclosed by “{ }”
which performs specific operation in a C
program. Actually , Collection of these
function creates a program.

15. Uses of C function
• C function are used to avoid rewriting same
logic/code again in a program.
• There is no limit in calling C function to make
use of same functionality wherever required.
• We can call functions any number of times in
a program and from any place in a program.
• A large C program can easily be tracked when
it is divided into functions.

16. C-structure
C Structure is a collection of different data types which
are grouped together and each element in a C structure
is a called member.
• If you want to access structure members in C, structures
variable should be declared.
• Many structure variable can be declared for same
structure and memory will be allocated for each
separately.
• It is a best practice to initialize a structure to null while
declaring, if we don’t assign any values to structure
members.
