The report summarizes research conducted by Spartan Solutions Inc. on Urban Outfitters Inc. Secondary research found UO succeeds in sales despite controversies over offensive products. Primary research through focus groups, interviews, and surveys found most participants would still shop at UO as controversies did not personally affect them. However, participants identified UO as overpriced with poor quality compared to competitors like American Eagle and H&M. The research concludes UO's pricing and quality, not controversies, pose the largest threat to the business.

The Forces That Are Transforming How Products Are MadeBeth Ambru.docxcherry686017
The document discusses several forces that are transforming manufacturing, including smart products/connectivity, servitization, digitization, personalization, and globalization. It notes that 68% of manufacturers expect major business transformations in the next 3 years due to these factors. Manufacturers must rethink how products are conceived, designed, produced, sold and serviced. The goal is to not only make better products but also make manufacturing processes better through continual improvement and feedback. While traditional large-scale manufacturing may not return to Detroit, the auto industry still has opportunities to take advantage of these transforming forces.

Schaffner Quantum Computing and Cryptography.pptxsanta142869
Christian Schaffner gave a presentation on quantum computing and cryptography. He explained key concepts of quantum physics like superposition and interference. He demonstrated how quantum computers can solve problems exponentially faster than classical computers by exploiting superposition. One such problem is integer factorization, which would break widely used public-key cryptography like RSA. Researchers are working to develop "post-quantum" cryptography secure against quantum attacks. Governments and businesses are investing billions to develop quantum technologies with applications in simulation, communication, and cryptography before quantum computers are powerful enough to break current security standards.

This document discusses using online advertising to conduct large-scale internet measurements of end users. It describes how the author's organization purchased Google ad placements at a low cost per thousand impressions to maximize the number of unique IP addresses that would see their ad and be measured. This allowed them to collect data from over 350,000 users per day and build a large dataset for analyzing internet capabilities by geography, network, and other factors. While successful at a large scale, it notes some challenges in getting sufficient coverage of certain regions.
Globalization involves increasing integration of economies and societies through cross-border trade, investment, and the exchange of ideas and culture. While globalization has increased world GDP and raised standards of living for many, it has also resulted in economic difficulties for some groups. Future societies may integrate more globally through shared technologies and media, but could also emphasize local cultures and self-sufficiency. Overall, globalization outcomes depend on how its opportunities and challenges are managed.

Feasibility and added value of a European unemployment benefits scheme Ilaria Maselli
1. The document discusses the idea of a European unemployment benefit scheme that could serve as an automatic stabilizer for the eurozone by transferring funds between countries during economic downturns.
2. It outlines 18 possible schemes that could be implemented, distinguishing between "genuine" schemes that directly intervene and transfer funds for unemployed workers, and "equivalent" schemes that provide flexibility.
3. Key challenges that would need to be addressed in the design include preventing moral hazard while allowing local flexibility, balancing stabilization and redistribution, and harmonizing national unemployment systems across countries.

"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. I believe we could all benefit from learning new perspectives as they could help us ideate solutions to contemporary issues and empathize with others.
OJP data from firms like Vicinity Jobs have emerged as a complement to traditional sources of labour demand data, such as the Job Vacancy and Wages Survey (JVWS). Ibrahim Abuallail, PhD Candidate, University of Ottawa, presented research relating to bias in OJPs and a proposed approach to effectively adjust OJP data to complement existing official data (such as from the JVWS) and improve the measurement of labour demand.
In a tight labour market, job-seekers gain bargaining power and leverage it into greater job quality—at least, that’s the conventional wisdom.
Michael, LMIC Economist, presented findings that reveal a weakened relationship between labour market tightness and job quality indicators following the pandemic. Labour market tightness coincided with growth in real wages for only a portion of workers: those in low-wage jobs requiring little education. Several factors—including labour market composition, worker and employer behaviour, and labour market practices—have contributed to the absence of worker benefits. These will be investigated further in future work.

In quantum computing a qubit is 0 or 1 or
both at the same time (!?!) because of “super-
positioning.” A quantum computer can thus
analyse all four states in one operation:

A computer with n cubits can be in super-position of 2n states at the same time. So a
4 qubit quantum computer could analyse 16 parallel states in a single operation:
