The document discusses Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), an open-source initiative started by Google and Twitter to improve the mobile web experience. It provides an overview of AMP, including its origins, how AMP HTML pages are structured, how site speeds are improved, potential search engine results page impacts, client usage scenarios, supported advertisements, and limitations. A live demo of an AMP page is also included.
We've known that site speed is important for quite some time now, but what if it's a challenge you're still struggling with? It's bad enough that the majority of users say they'll abandon a site if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load, but poor site speed can have an adverse effect on our SEO as well.
Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) to the rescue! At the end of last year, voices at Google said that 2016 was going to be all about AMP and true to their word Google just announced that "later this year, all types of sites that create AMP pages will have expanded exposure across the entire Google Mobile Search results page".
So we know that this AMP thing is important, but how do we get started with it? What actually makes an AMP implementation different from having a great mobile experience on your standard site? What issues do folks need to look out for?
I this talk I gave for Portland's SEMpdx, I gave a detailed overview of AMP, dug into its importance to web marketing and SEO, and provided resources for people to get started with.

AMP, or Accelerated Mobile Pages, is Google’s framework for fast-loading mobile pages. This enables publishers to hit two birds with one stone: increase page load times and improve user experience. And we’re not just talking about Google’s “Top Search” results; Google will display AMP’s anytime it’s detected.

My presentation from South Florida Code Camp 2016 on Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). SFLCC was in lovely Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Google started AMP as an initiative to dramatically improve the performance of the mobile web. The main approach that AMP employs is placing HTML on a diet, in an attempt to gain breakneck speeds, for loading content on our mobile devices. This new open-source based framework throws out the standard approach to loading bloated CSS and JavaScript libraries and instead becomes a lean, mean superfast machine. Join me to find out what exactly are Accelerated Mobile Pages, what do they mean for search, and how can you prepare for it on your website?
AMP is coming to improve the mobile web. Big time.
There are many aspect to a great user experience on sites.
In order to improve the speed of the media websites on mobile and the monetization, we needed few things:
1. Fast pages. Fast to load, fast to display, saving bandwidth when possible.
2. Easy for the developers and companies to create. Only based on known and widely used technologies.
3. Mobile Friendly: they should respect a standard and thanks to this standard, pages would be automatically optimized for mobile devices
4. Embrace the open web: non-proprietary technology, open source, available to anyone to use and improve. It should not only help for search engines, but for everyone.
In these slides, we will cover AMP and what it can do for you.
A brief guide to how Google's new Accelerated Mobile Pages (aka AMP) are displayed and navigated. Includes details on the fundamental change to how Google AMP pages differ to ‘normal’ search results.

Azure App Services are basically the de facto standard as the best possible way to deploy and host a .Net Framework or .Net Core application, period. You can argue with me until you are blue in the face about other hosting methods or platforms, but you would still be wrong.
However, utilizing an Azure App Service as your hosting method is not the same as utilizing standard IIS, especially when it comes to optimization. During the session we will deploy a .Net Core MVC application to Azure, determine an initial baseline for performance, and then walk through how to configure various properties and server-side configurations that make that site blazing fast.

Google AMP – a framework that optimizes an existing page for mobile use and serves it from the Google AMP cache – promises to make it easier for users to access and interact with your content when they are on mobile devices.
This framework achieves major Search Engine Optimization (SEO) goals by speeding up page load times, thereby increasing user satisfaction, especially for students who are mobile-dependent. But is Google AMP a good fit for higher ed content?
In this presentation, a developer and a content strategist will present iFactory's current Google AMP projects and suggest approaches tailored to institutions of higher education.

The AMP Project is an initiative started by Google &
Twitter to improve the mobile web and enhance the
distribution ecosystem. AMP HTML embraces the open
web, so you can be sure that your content appears
correctly across all modern browsers and apps. Pages are
published normally to your site, using standard tools, and
are accelerated via caches created by Google and others.
AMP utilizes its own proxy based CDN to deliver content
to users with very little delay.

6. Still not following? Ok let me give you
my elevator pitch for AMP.
“AMP is a light, fast and simple web
page. Using Google’s CDN it will
prefetch the site so to users, the page
loads instantly on their mobile
devices.”
7. Origins of AMP
● Oct 7th, Google announced the open source initiative called
Accelerated Mobile Pages
● AMPs purpose is to deliver webpages with rich content like video,
animations and graphics to work alongside smart ads, and to load
instantaneously
● Twitter,Pinterest, WordPress.com, Chartbeat, Parse.ly, Adobe
Analytics and LinkedIn are the first group that plan to integrate AMPs
8. AMP HTML
<!doctype html>
<html (AMP)⚡>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<link rel="canonical" href="hello-world.html">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width,minimum-
scale=1,initial-scale=1">
<style>body {opacity: 0}</style><noscript><style>body {opacity:
1}</style></noscript>
<script async src="https://cdn.ampproject.org/v0.js"></script>
</head>
<body>Hello, has anyone seen Keith’s mustache?</body>
</html>
These AMPs will need to be written in AMP HTML. This
subset of HTML is very lean, some tags are not supported
and some tags are changed to AMP-specific tags.
For example the <img> tag is changed to <amp-img> which
provides full srcset support even in browsers that down
support it yet.
12. SERP Impact
There is still very little information about
how this will impact the SERPs once it is
live but what we can tell from the demo is:
● AMPs appear above organic pages in
a carousel.(Allegedly)
● This should only impact mobile
SERPs.
Although AMP is made for mobile you can
experience these pages on desktop. There
is a desktop extension for chrome that will
automagically load AMP pages when
available.
Desktop AMP Extension
13. Client Usage
Clients using Wordpress will be able to
easily migrate current pages to AMP with
the help of this plugin. For clients not on
wordpress currently there is no easy
transition for them. AMP pages should only
be used for articles or blog posts.
WARNING: This plugin is still in early
development and should be tested multiple
times to ensure the AMPs are formatted
correctly.
14. Advertisements
Some clients keep the lights on and food in the
fridge from ad revenue. Since a lot of ad placement
providers rely on JavaScript this can be
troublesome. Currently, there are a handful of
providers that are being supported:
● A9
● AdReactor
● AdSense
● AdTech
● Doubleclick
15.
16. Limitations
Yes this sounds like a great idea but this is not the purpose of AMP. It is not
here to replace a mobile friendly sites nor is it a way to beat site speed
issues. It is meant for blog or article content and below I have listed the 9
commandments of AMP:
1. Conditional HTML comments are not allowed.
2. All attributes starting with ‘on’ are disallowed.
3. ‘Javascript:’ schema is disallowed.
4. All styles must be inline
5. Only one style tag in the document head
6. Style rules must be below 50KB
7. No developer-written or third party JavaScript
8. No input elements of any kind, including standard input and text area
9. Keywords should not include ‘unsafe-inline’ and ‘unsafe-eval’
