Amnesty International is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1961 in the United Kingdom to conduct research and generate action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights violations. It has over 2.8 million members and was awarded the 1977 Nobel Peace Prize for its campaign against torture. The organization works globally to protect human rights and demand justice for victims through research, education and public pressure.
