American Heart Association Provides Billions in Research Funding
1.
2. A portion of the money raised by the American
Heart Association (AHA) funds research into
stroke and cardiovascular disease. Since the
organization was founded in 1949, it has given
more than $3.7 billion toward research, much
of it to scientists who have spent their careers in
their field. AHA affiliates also fund local
research programs, including undergraduate
fellowships that allow college students to work
with established researchers and fellowships for
medical students considering a career in
cardiovascular disease research.
3. Currently, the AHA is funding more than 2,000
scientists. Funds from the AHA also go toward
research into heart issues that affect children,
including congenital heart disease. The AHA has
funded 13 Nobel Prize winners, and its research
projects have contributed to major developments
such as implantable pacemakers, artificial heart
valves, and CPR techniques.
A senior associate and the managing attorney of
Rosicki, Rosicki & Associates’ closing department,
Janet Ward is also a committee member with the
Long Island chapter of the American Heart
Association.
