American football is played on a rectangular field with yard lines and goal lines. The offense must advance the ball 10 yards in 4 downs to retain possession. They do this by passing or running with the ball. The defense tries to stop the offense from advancing by tackling ball carriers or defending against passes. There are specific positions on offense like quarterback, running back, and receiver who handle the ball. On defense are positions like defensive end, linebacker, and safety who try to stop the offense. A team scores by getting the ball into the end zone or kicking it through the goal posts.

Typically the largest and strongest.<br />Nose Guard (NG) – Defensive player that lines up directly with the Center.<br />Linebacker (LB) – generally line up behind the line of scrimmage.
