Trade in Rosewood in Ghana has become the fastest and most expensive commodity in Ghana. Unfortunately, there is very little known about the species in Ghana, and yet the institutions and ministries responsible for lands and natural resources has given permits for trade without due recourse to existing national timber management regulations and laws. Its an elite capture, holding poor forest fringe communities to ransom as poor community members have become victims of the timber market. We need proper leadership in the forestry sector in Ghana, else we loose what is left of the about 1.8 million hectares of remaining national forest cover.

Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

‘Found another worm its so big.’ On Monday the 19th
of August my class went tree planting. Richard
showed us how to plant the plants. We found a lot
of worms.
3. Getting there.
We went in a bus to the top of the hill then
we had to walk down a slippery slope to
get to where we were going to plant the
trees.
4. Spacing out
We have to space the trees one meter away from
each because the trees roots will be tangled under
ground
5. Time to plant!!!
When we planted we had to clear the space where
we wanted to plant before we started to dig because
there where lots of leaves and gorse on the ground.
6. Time to tickle those roots!
You have to loosen the soil around the
roots because if you don’t the roots will
grow around in circles.
7. Done with the planting!
After we where done planting we counted
how many we planted. We had planted
246 plants!
