Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that destroys memory and thinking skills. It is the most common cause of dementia among older adults. The symptoms include memory loss, problems with thinking and language, and behavioral changes. The cause is still unknown but risk factors include aging, family history, and other medical conditions. There is no cure for Alzheimer's but medications can temporarily slow the worsening of symptoms. Maintaining brain and body health through activities like exercise may help reduce risk. A large Canadian study found that older age, fewer years of education, and a genetic factor increased Alzheimer's risk, while use of anti-inflammatory drugs and being physically active decreased risk.
