Mustangs were originally wild horses that roamed freely in the American west, having been brought over by the Spanish. They come in a variety of colors and, while not as fast as quarter horses, are strong and hardy animals able to defend themselves and their young if needed. Mustangs have had a significant influence on life in the old west and attempts to domesticate them have met with limited success due to their independent and unpredictable nature.
