1. 1. THE WILD SIDE OF TORNADOES

Written by Rachel Waltz

    2. 2. Chapter 1

When a tornado strikes the air is very calm right before it strikes.

The air is very calm and then all of a sudden it gets violent!
    3. 3. The tornado is one of the most violent storms on earth. They can damage a lot of things. Here is the three stages of the wild tornado.
    4. 4. Chapter 2

There is a common known place where many tornados are seen and that have destroyed land and property. Can you guess what it is called? Well if you didn’t know what it is called, it is called “Tornado Alley”. It is where most tornados are developed.

The places that tornados most often strikes are in these places in the picture shown above.
    5. 5. This is a picture of the vortex sound generation. It shows the sound in a tornado and where most of the sound comes from in side of it. The sound of a tornado is like the sound of a thousand herds of cattle coming at you! But really all it is , is the tornado starting up!
    6. 6. The picture to the right is a type of tornado called a waterspout!

When a water tornado starts it comes down like a normal tornado would, and it goes down into the water and sucks up everything in it’s way! It looks really cool, but it is really dangerous to be around. If you too go into the water as a water tornado came into the water you would be in the waterspout within 10 seconds at the most! You would be dropped into the water at an incredible height and speed! It sounds like it would be a blast, but it could be very dangerous.

This is a waterspout!
    7. 7. Chapter 3

The pictures at the right are all different kinds of tornados in all different kinds of places!

A lot of tornados can make different shapes and sizes. Like the one at the bottom of the page.

This is a tornado the was shaped into a heart! COOL! WOW WOW WOW
    8. 8. Bet you can’t guess what that’s called!?!?

That weird looking thing to the right is a type of tornado that isn’t very violent. If you get to close you can get a lot of dirt in your eyes, but if your careful about it you won’t get it in your eyes. It doesn’t get that big, it is about .25% of what a big tornado would be.

    9. 9. Tornados, or twisters as they are often called are rapidly rotating columns of air!

Tornados are extremely fast

Tornados may form when a warm front meets a cold front forming a thunderstorm which can spawn one or more twisters. But this is an over simplification. Rotating thunderstorms called mesocyclones are the best predictors of tornado activity. Mesocyclones are also called supercells and are well defined thunderstorms on radar. Suoercells may also include hail, severe winds, lightning and flash floods.
    10. 10. As seen in the movies some tornados are not alone destroying things. T

They bring hail, heavy rain and extreme winds. Funnel clouds usually last 10 minutes before dissipating with many only lasting many seconds.
