RUSH WEEK
Rush week was
successful.
Rush is the time for the
Brothers to express their
knowledge and
experiences to the
rushees/potential
pledges. To the right are
pictures of the brothers
and rushees at each
event. Throughout the
week there were many
opportunities for rushees
to get to know the
Brothers and ask them
questions before sending
in their application. Our
last rush event was
different. We decided to
host an Interview Prep to
help the applicants and
give them advice before
their interviews the next
day.

Bid Night
The Brothers and potential pledges played an ice breaker to get to know eachother.
Congratulations to the 23 pledges who received a bid on
Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Induction was performed the
next day, Thursday, September 18, 2014. It’s time for them to
begin their 8 week pledging process.
Lambda pledges took one of many
group pictures.
The Brothers welcomed the new pledges. The Lambda pledge class waited for
instructions.
Partnering with the
Center for Career and
Professional
Advancement, the Psi
Upsilon Chapter had
their first annual
conference. I want to
thank the following
alumni: Vanessa
Estavillo (Zeta),
Jonathan Lee
(Founding), Alvin Lu
(Zeta), Christina
Nguyen (Gamma), and
Lawrence Tagoe
(Gamma) for attending
our event and giving
advice during the
alumni workshop. 3
Upcoming Dates
Midcourt of Honor: Sunday,
October 19th
Court of Honor: Saturday,
November 15th
4. Philanthropy Committee: The Philanthropy
Committee wants to continue supporting
Women’s Empowerment but also expand
towards other organizations like Habitat for
Humanity. They are in the process of
organizing community service events for the
Chapter at local places like the Food Bank
and the Merced High School and
collaborating with Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Fundraising Committee: The Fundraising
Committee has a lot of plans this semester.
The committee is in the process of
contacting local restaurant businesses like
Sams Café, Thai II, and Apple Bee’s. They
are also planning a potential large scale
annual event like a Carnival which will also
bring awareness toward our fraternity.
Pledge Instruction Committee: The 8 week
pledging process is now in session. The
pledge instruction committee is working very
hard to ensure the best experience for our
23 pledges. Pledge class is on Thursdays at
9:30pm.
Public Relations Committee: The Public
Relations Committee has contacted other
schools about their Midcourt and Court of
Honors. They have also contacted other
professional Greek fraternities on campus
like Theta Tau and Phi Delta Epsilon to do
collaborative events.
Professional Committee: The Professional
Committee is in the process of planning their
first event which is phone interviews. Phone
interviews seem to be today’s way of first
impressions so acing a phone interview puts
you on the right path.
This year the Psi Upsilon Chapter added two committees: Pledge Instruction and Public Relations. In order to
expand our chapter and membership roles, it seems more beneficial to add these two committees.
CommitteeUpdates
Initiation Committee: The Initiation
Committee is responsible for anything
pertaining to Midcourt and Court of Honor.
They started to look at restaurants for
Midcourt and Court of Honor.

Brotherhood Committee: The Philanthropy Committee is brainstorming events to enhance one of
our core values, Brotherhood. Ideas like weekly movie nights, barbecues, retreats, and fun
weekend social events are a possibility.
